I thought Venus came across as very intelligent and sophisticated, her life wasn't sad at all, she lived her life on her own terms. She had interesting things to say and her observations & commentary on sex between a man and a woman are dead on, she also said that many of the ball walkers, 95% of them were hustlers. I think she was right. What is sad and tragic was the way her life ended.

It's hard when you need coin. Trans women often have very few employment opportunities - especially back then. Venus described another incident when she was in a car and had to jump out because a "date" freaked out on her and threatened to kill her -- Like Angie said - it was part of life as a trans women in NYC back then and unfortunately many trans women are being murdered today
