So elegant, so graceful. What a delight!

This number surely has a claim to be the most gracefully danced routine ever. The timing and synchronization is remarkable. I first saw it when it was introduced by Mikhail Baryshnikov in an MGM film about their musicals.

Vera-Ellen was a perfect match for Fred Astaire, both wonderful professionals who were so talented and graceful. I only recently discovered her, she exudes a warmth and grace, such a pleasure to watch.

As much as I love Fred with Ginger, there is something ethereal and gorgeous about Vera and Fred when they dance like this. Just like air moving, they are so graceful together.

Lovely sequence. I love how quietly it begins- as a relatively tender moment at 1:50 betwixt two, with an understated Red Skelton at piano, then the seamless move away from the piano to the floor for the complete dance. That was the beauty and genius of Astaire. He is complimented beautifully by the balletic Vera-Ellen, looking exceptionally pretty in pink.

This Hermes Pan's brilliantly-choreographed number of "Thinking Of You" that was beautifully-performed by the ever-indefatigable Mr Fred Astaire and the ever-illustrious Ms Vera Ellen in their 1950 MGM's Three Little Words can be truly described as fascinating, lithe, and luminescent. One can't help but to get stunned by the beauty, the elegance, and the sprightliness of the best-ever dynamic duo of the Greatest Tap Dancer and the Premiere Danseuse in their mixed Latin and ballroom dance styles.

Vera is by far my favorite (and IMHO, the best) of the classic era musical dancers. Like lovely smoke...

Vera Ellen never made a bad step....such a great talented dancer, who cared if she couldn't sing. By the way Anita Ellis also dubbed for Rita Hayworth in "Gilda".

3:06 deja-vu, she does exactly the same flexible movement whilst dancing with Danny Kaye in White Christmas, and here I was thinking that it was a completely unique moment in the history of Hollywood cinema.

Vera is the most graceful woman dancer ever, so feminine. Watch her hand movements. Not only in this, but other excerpts on youtube.

Ginger Rogers had never danced ballroom with a partner before she started to work with Astaire. But she was such a great actress that she "faked it" until she learned to do it with such ease, that she made many of the other partners after her look wrong. Vera-Ellen was an amazing technician, and Cyd-Charisse and Rita Hayworth were more musical/graceful than Rogers was, but Astaire and Rogers related to each other the best on the floor.

I don't think anyone dances like that anymore.

Astair and Allen have a far better synchronized, dance-movement connection than Astair and Ginger ever did - not something that Astair would ever likely admit if he were still with us.

Could Red Skelton really play the piano?

He did, and was also a composer. He wrote much of the background music on his own TV show.

Vera-Ellen could sing quite well it just wasn't a strong singing voice. Check out the kinescope of her singing with Ray Bolger on an old TV show. She's in tune, she's expressive but it's not a voice that would reach the balcony.

Vers Ellen was a good dancer but the chemistry is missing. Mr Astaire and Ginger had a rapport that made her Astaire's perfect partner.....even if she was not a great dancer, one's eyes were on them all the time. Love this film because of Mr Astaire.

apollonia I agree that Fred and Ginger had an unmatched zing (and really witty scripts), but I think the chemistry between Fred and Vera is fine. It's softer than with Ginger, but that's appropriate for the story here--and the fact that it's supposed to be 2 a.m., lol. "Dreamy" is a good word for this number, as Samuel says.

Vera Ellen Could not Sing She had no Singing Voice

Most fans of Vera Ellen know this. Her voice was always dubbed for the singing numbers. What’s your point?
