This song brings me to tears every time. Her trembling voice is so angelic. And how can anyone not be moved by this video? Hearing her voice carry over the thousands of soldiers who were fighting for peace and may never return. It's incredibly touching. Thank you for posting such wonderful footage!

Vera is the girl next door type from an era of real hardship. She inspired all of us with her songs, she did not need to have false publicity like so many of so called stars of today. I am surprised that the press think it is unusual to have a WW2 icon at the top of the charts, the answer is beautiful singing and a sincere voice. God bless you Vera.

Thank you for this post. As a New Yorker born in 1946 I was very influenced by all things British. We had tele as of 1948 and when the old films began to be aired I was hooked, especially on English films. So yes I remember Vera Lynn and all the music. What makes me cry is the Spirit and Unity one feels rekindled of a terrible time but where there were values of politeness, duty, dignity, loyalty, integrity and caring.

Bravo! Just got the happy news here in the USA that Dame Vera Lynn has hit #1 in the UK album charts...never mind the sad state of today's music world and the demise of actual record / CD sales. I came to really like her songs via my late mother and neighbors (I'm "only" 40 so too young to have been there) but really appreciate the heart shown in her songs. Now that was real music ---and I love a lot that came after... but this strikes a real chord. Congratulations to her . Savor this.

This song, all these decades later, is becoming a best-seller again with the same singer, Vera Lynn, who is still with us and very happy to know the song is reaching a new audience. The whole world owes the English, Scots and Welsh a debt of gratitude that never can be repaid. When nobody else could or would fight, they stood alone against evil. Other nations stood neutral when being neutral was cowardice. These three peoples stood up and fought ......alone, against a vastly superior military force. On this Fourth of July, I salute them and thank them. And thank you Dame Vera Lynn. You inspire people to this day and will forever.

I can not avoid a lump in my throat every time I listen to this tune. It's stronger than me. Why? Well, I really don't know. I just know that it always has had the power to act upon my feelings and emotions. There is always a strange nostalgia wrapped in sorrow and even grief, something odd able to resurrect vivid images in my mind, bitter sweet remembrances which can not be taken as memories simply because they do not belong to this existence.

In the worst circumstances at the worst places Vera always looked pin perfect, cool and calm. Today she sounds the same as ever!

England sheltered Norway's royal family from the Nazi occupation. I lived in Oslo in the '70s, and whenever this song was played, older Norwegians cried. Her song, on the BBC, had consoled them; their king would come home one day, and Norway would be at peace again.

A wonderful song sung by a gracious and charming lady. Vera Lynn still looks terrific today. She understood the meaning of duty and service. I have heard her speak. Dame Vera said that we must not forget the allied soldiers, sailors and airmen who sacrificed all for us. Many gave their lives or were horribly wounded. All so that we could remain free. She further said that we should teach the children this so that these brave men are not forgotten. Dame Vera is a remarkable person.
