10.6 l/100km is 22.2 mpg for anyone wondering. For a 7000 lb truck with a v8 and the aerodynamics of a backyard shed, that's actually really good.

Thank you. I was wondering what the hell was “10.6 l / 100km “ 😂 we don’t use that measurement in the United States or the U.K..who goes on MPH Not KM/H Terrific review though. That’s why I won’t buy a new American car. They used to build them with much more solidity. My 1980’s American cars the door area does not shake 🫨 like this newer S.U.V 😂

They've gotten considerable better over the years. I have a 2015 2wd Yukon (same thing as a Tahoe) and I can easily get 25mpg on the highway and if I'm real careful 18-20 around town. Prior to that I had a 2008 Tahoe and was lucky to get 16 highway.

I bought it just because of my 20 years experience with my T4. I bet that 20 years old GM can tell similar story. The lack of workmanship applies on everting nowadays.

Americans don't want performance or quality. Americans want huge, cheap, and gas guzzling. On the other hand, given that most Americans are obese, they won't fit anything else. There are some sensible Americans who do want reliability and efficiency so that's why Toyotas are popular too.

Keep in mind you got a rental spec Tahoe. Most people don’t buy that one. They almost always go for the upgraded models. And I doubt you can even find a 2 wheel drive Tahoe where I live. No one but a penny pinching fleet manager would ever even consider buying one of those. If you want a Tahoe that hauls it’s tail and corners like a sports car, you can get one. Spend the time behind the wheel of a police version. It’s a whole different animal. And if you don’t like the Chevy, you can get the GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade versions of these. And they are often way nicer than the one you rented.

It’s actually illegal in California to leave an unoccupied vehicle idling. The laws vary by state. But even in California the law is ignored. 50 years ago when I was learning to drive in California I was taught not to idle for more than 15-30 seconds. “It wastes gasoline”. That was a great review. As an American who loves German cars and American trucks your review was spot on. Even if you live in a normal city in America those full size SUVs are too big. I disagree with you on the power of that 5.3 v8. I think an American v8 from the 1970s of the same displacement would have 180 horsepower or less lol. Listen we love our German cars over here but Americans HATE maintaining their cars and you rarely see a well maintained German car over 120,000 miles because our mechanics absolutely rape us of all our money for anything more than an oil change. That Tahoe is a big plastic box but it will for sure be on the road over 200,000 miles.

However, Tahoe delivers the same with more capability (lot more room) and selective off road capabilities (2WD, AWD, 4WD-HI and 4WD-LO) for deep snow and off road etc. They can tow about the same and they cost very similar. Touareg gets little better gas milage. Tahoe makes sense..

Every vehicle has its pros and cons but I would like to point out that when you watch the videos on KZbin, the Toyotas are are all heavily modified to go off roading. All drive line components are heavily up rated. If you watch most of the LR Defender ones, they have upgrades to the “camping” side but very few to the mechanical side. So please bear that in mind!!

Fantabulous review. Any potential SUV byer. The Discovery is superior in all departments & loses closely to a Landcruiser. The Landcruiser is undeniably much more reliable & cheaper to run. Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, Porsvhe, Lamboghini are mall crawlers. I have driven the Jeep, Landcruiser, Discovery, Range Rover, Ranger, X3, Q7, Landover 110, Hilux etc. The Discovery is good overall for comfort, off road capability & driving dynamics. The Landcruiser is reliable as houses & offroad is par with Landrover. Theres a reason why in every insurgency the rear tray of a Landcruiser is filled with militias wielding AK47s. That Landcruiser is tougher than the AK47 or militia carrying it. Love your show. Greetings from Auckland 🇳🇿

When I'm in the US I always end up in a Thaoe, Nissan Armada or Lincoln Navigator. They are big slushy, gutless V8s that are big on the outside and small on the inside but they do a job and are built to a price - you get a lot of car for very little. Having straight roads and few roundabouts they've never needed to consider handling - it's just point, go and stop. It's just boring driving. I don't know how you stayed awake on straight roads. I always struggle and US radio is so bad - they even use AM wavebands! No, they can keep their big wagons. I like my LR and VW.

I have a 2009 GMC Yukon XL Denali, and it currently has 147k miles on the odometer. It has a 6.2 L V8 and a 6 speed transmission. I’ve spent a fair amount of money keeping it on the road, but looking at the awful build quality of newer trucks I’d rather drive my GMT-900 Denali than any of these new Tahoes / Suburbans / Yukons. American trucks used to be built to be very robust and mechanically resilient but those days have been long gone for years. If one is looking for a newer full size GM SUV I would recommend leasing one over owning it outright. Lots of issues with transmissions, AFM (cylinder deactivation system), ECM failures and other very expensive problems on newer GM trucks.

The 5.3 and the 327 are very different engines and engines in the 70 absolutely didn't make this kind of power. For example the 1975 chevy corvette with a 350 only made 165 horsepower. The 5.3 is lighter and more efficient and more powerful than a old style small block 327. So if you are a car enthusiast and into building hot rods, the thing to do with these is pull the engine out when they eventually hit the junkyard and put it in your project car. The engines are light, compact, powerful, reliable and well supported in the aftermarket. So imagine this engine in a car weighing 3000lbs with additional horsepower from a cam upgrade or turbos/supercharger.

I think I know of ONE petrol station where you can still get 91 octane. Premium petrol is 100+ octane. So this is why... 85, 87, and 91 octane is "premium". Dafuq.

There is a reason why I stick to Geländewagen and LR. My Toyota was quite less sturdy, and even less reliable.

11:40 but the Diesel has a built in programmed obsolescence and that is a wet belt that drives de oil pump located in the backside of the engine, so to change that wet belt you have to lower the transmission, and I don't know the reliability of that engine, but I guess, since it's a Wet-Belt driven oil pump, they won't last no more then 60,000km!

Agree that remote start should be illegal. It takes the place of the driver having to drive carefully while it warms up. The feature may conflict with laws in Colorado that disallow vehicles running without an occupant.

One really good feature of an EV is the pre-heat and pre-cooling without an engine running ... can even have it keeping the temperature for half an hour whilst parked for shopping or start it from mobile phone App - I find all this really useful 🙂 Glad to see Phillip wasn't too badly hurt - must be uncomfortable in that heat but at least he could continue. I dislike "Lane Keep Assist " on any vehicle because I enjoy driving and don't need the anxiety. Great "illegal" holiday videos 😁 Thanks for taking us along with you.

You had me smiling and laughing throughout the video Christian. I liked yours and Vera's comments and criticisms all through the video. You were firm but fair, I was surprised at the standard of that Tahoe. The surprising limited space in the rear and the flimsy flexing panels. You are such a good ambassador for the Land Rover products as I hear your comparisons :) I wish you the rest of a very good vacation and a quick recovery for Philip

Look my grandparents 73 super beetle used to pop my eardrums. Their 85 Jetta (Bora) coupe, that’s a two door diesel did too. That car went 500,000 miles. Don’t be so hard on the Chevy I have a 20 year old truck with 300000, and yes three Audis and swear by them. Chevrolet Silverado truck VW group cars. Since I was two sitting in the beetle staring at the Wolfsburg emblem at eye level.

Good review and a fair criticism of the Suburban. GM makes a cheap product and has cut too many corners. Now to be fair, rent a Mercedes SUV and make the exact same trip, and let us know how that turns out. I doubt you'd do that since nobody wants to travel those distances in a tiny car with no luggage capacity.

Just about to return my rented Chevy Suburban after three weeks living with it, and the most disappointing aspect for me was the way it porpoised end to end when trading really bad road surfaces. Enterprise advertise the Suburban LT as a premium SUV, buy honestly there is nothing premium about it as far as I am concerned. I regret not taking the Nissan Armada instead.

In UK we don’t have a similar EU law cannot run car without having an accupant/drive/passenger. We have only where vehicle stopped turn engine off after 5 mins. 5 mins to cool car down on remote start then !!! In UK the police wouldn’t police that law anyway. Lol
