Had to be recovered on a truck yesterday. The park brake was stuck on making a horrible noise, so I used the emergency release which didn’t release the brake and locked the gearbox in park 🤦. Got it home and stripped down, cables cut to release the park brake, park brake unit remove ( I used you video to follow, which was great. Mine has Adblue so a little extra work to remove the tank) I’ve opened the electric motor and gearbox to expect the little plastic cogs to be stripped and everything is OK??? Not sure what has caused it, so a full rear brake rebuild and new cogs on order. Your video was excellent 👍
@Vera_and_Christian2 жыл бұрын
That suck,s , our’s was jammed once too, offroad in the Alps. But we could release it. We did the rebuild then in the following winter. When you watch that video, you see that the gears itself did not look damaged or worn out. But definitely be rather safe than sorry. 👍🙋♀️Vera

Hello Zan, have that 3/8 hex socket ready and a few new M8 x 16 bolts. Spray them with penetrant the night before. Each cable has two M8 bolts and then there are the four bracket bolts in the back, holding the module. Also spray the heat shield nuts. Use a hammer and socket and hit them once prior opening them. Also use a inch socket if they spin through. We love Vancouver island. We took our Jeep Cherokee there about 20 jears ago. The landscape is endless. Victoria is a nice city with friendly people. Good memories.

That, right there, is the main reason I can't face the idea of trading in my D2 for a D3. To have half a chance of doing these kind of jobs easily, you need a D3 that's always been looked-after, and has no rusty nuts and bolts... which you can't rely on when you buy a 10 year old vehicle. Oh, how I wish JLR had designed the D3 as an evolution of the D2, perhaps based on a Defender 110 chassis. Much respect for taking these jobs on, rather than handing it over to a specialist.
@Vera_and_Christian4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Such vehicles in Germany are like new after 10 years. There is hardly no salt and the roads have no bumps. They are dealer-maintained too up to 150t km. Then they are cheap to buy because they are expensive to drive for non-DIY folks.

Hello Allen, thank you. We plan to buy an other vehicle in 2021 but there are a few obstacles. First I have to fix the transmission of the Challenger and then sell it. It will be like selling a fridge in the arctic. Once done, we will actually buy a Range Rover Sport. It is the same platform as the Discovery 3 but a bit more sporty. Its cheaper and better available in Germany. It also comes with a diesel V8. This is what our channel will bring in 2021. You know now more than anybody else.

The reason for the bad reputation is that people do not expect the maintenance cost of a high end vehicle. The cars are cheap and people think they are cheap to maintain too. That depends on the corrosion degree of your Disco. If we had a video like ours when we did it the first time, it would have been much faster. But we also film, which adds at least twice the time it would take normally. But, who cares how long it takes if it takes 2 or 4 hours. @Vera_and_Christian2 жыл бұрын
If you take care of your EPB and service it regularly, you have no problems. Like with everything Land Rover related. We live here in Europe in moderate, wet, and cold climate and the EPB works just fine. It is a Land Rover after all and build to last. But, you have to do your maintanece. So if something cracks, you have to replace it. 🙋♀️Vera

Great video! Very useful for Disco 3 owners! Thanks! At the end, did you only brake by engaging the EPB on the move? Did you do this to test that everything is working well? Doesn't that put a lot of strain on the EPB module? Keep up the good work!

The TÜV inspector also used the electric hand brake this way. He had an electronic diagnostic tool which measured the vehicle response. The the manual describes the hand brake switch as a emergency brake as well. I am not sure if the electric brake actuator is actually used when doing this while driving... In that 'emergency' brake test did you press the handbrake switch while the car was moving?

When you install new shoes for the EPB, you need to do a bedding in procedure. Check our Brake Playlist. 🙋♀️

Have you ever heard of an epb coming on gradually by itself while at highway speeds?

Greetings. At the end of the video when you were doing the emergency brake test, were you engaging the EPB? Is that what that beeping was? thanks very much for your great videos!

Yes, you have to initialize the EPB after you do anything on it. But Christian explains everything. We have more videos on the EPB which might be helpful. 👍🙋♀️

🤔 I am not sure what you mean. The only thing we always, always do is enable the air suspension by pulling the fuse.🙋♀️Vera

I adjust my shoes exactly like this. A few weeks later it screeches again. When checking the adjuster it's backed off again. Any ideas?
