The idea of rocking a simple chair originated at the end of the 18th century in England, where they simply attached so-called swings to an ordinary chair.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, rocking chairs became very popular in America.
At that time, a new design was developed that allowed swinging using curved legs and arched springs.
This innovation enabled smooth movement and increased the comfort of rocking chairs.
At the end of the 19th century, the rocking chair of Michael Thonet became famous, who founded factories for furniture made of bent wood in Koryčany and Bystřice pod Hostýnem, which enabled their availability to a wider public.
The design of rocking chairs continued to evolve, different materials such as wood, metal, plastic were used and new shapes and styles appeared to suit different tastes and needs. Today, rocking chairs are a popular part of many homes and public spaces. In some countries, you can also find a rocking chair in a geriatric clinic, and this is no coincidence. Elderly people suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other types of disabilities appreciate the calming but stimulating effects of regular rocking movement. Overall, we can say that the history of rocking chairs is long, rich and has become an integral part of our homes.
