As a Bruce Springsteen fan for over 40 years, this cover of Atlantic City is one of the best I have ever heard. His own stuff is absolutely fantastic- a real genuine raw talent- something which has been missing for years. Sam Fender I hope you conquer the world.

I'm kinda torn between a love for the band (especially deano) and his solo stuff like. I definitely prefer his solo stuff cos his voice isn't overpowered by the drums but maybe if he just keeps mixing it up between band and solo he will be onto a winner. A lot of people know he's got talent like. I hope he sees this comment eh Billy, son 😉

Now look at him 😍 I seen him post about someone setting his tent on fire at Leeds festival when he wasn't famous, someone came along and peed on it and put it out, he then said I don't know your name but just to thank you because you saved the Leeds headliner for this year. What a feeling going from getting wrecked and in the normal campsite, to headlining the same festival years later 😍

Well, they blew up the chicken man in Philly last night And they blew up his house, too Down on the boardwalk, they're getting ready for a fight Gonna see what them racket boys can do Now there's trouble busing in from out of state And the D.A. can't get no relief Gonna be a rumble out on the promenade And the gambling commission's hanging on by the skin of its teeth [Chorus] Well, now, everything dies, baby, that's a fact But maybe everything that dies someday comes back Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty And meet me tonight in Atlantic City [Verse 2] Well, I got a job and tried to put my money away But I got debts that no honest man can pay So I drew what I had from the Central Trust And I bought us two tickets on that Coast City bus [Chorus] Well, now, everything dies, baby, that's a fact But maybe everything that dies someday comes back Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty And meet me tonight in Atlantic City [Bridge] Now, our luck may have died, and our love may be cold But with you, forever, I'll stay We're going out where the sand's turning to gold So put on your stockings, baby, 'cause the night's getting cold [Chorus] And everything dies, baby, that's a fact But maybe everything that dies someday comes back [Verse 3] Now I been looking for a job, but it's hard to find Down here, it's just winners and losers and "Don't get caught on the wrong side of that line" Well, I'm tired of coming out on the losing end So, honey, last night, I met this guy, and I'm gonna do a little favor for him [Chorus] Well, now, everything dies, baby, that's a fact But maybe everything that dies someday comes back Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty And meet me tonight in Atlantic City

This is my favorite Springsteen song, and this is by far the best cover I've seen. With respect to Levon Helm's various versions, as much as I loved his work, he missed something key about this song - Atlantic City is a song about giving up your last bit of integrity out of complete desperation. The tonality should reflect that. I suspect the Northeast of England where Sam Fender is from isn't dissimilar from this section of the Jersey Shore. It's a natural alignment between performer and subject matter. It's a bleak, spare song given a bleak, spare treatment. Great work.
