Hello, young girl! This movie shock the entire world. I'm telling you this being a 41 year old guy from Chile, South America! Even I got to watch this film on TV as a kid in the 90's and everybody just loved it. Drago is such a good antagonist! The impact of the movie was just not framed to America. It shocked the entire world! Keep up the nice work!

i was ten when i watched Rocky 4 at the theatre, believe me when i tell you the people in the theatre were going crazy , cheering, yelling, crying , it was loud and i have never witnessed another movie having that effect on the theatre , for anyone else that watched it back in 1985 in theatres , you know what i am talking about.

This movie was released during the end of the Cold War between the USSR & the United States. Rocky and Drago were mirroring Ronald Reagan & Mikhail Gorbachez in real time history. The nuclear arms race between the US & the USSR was no joke during the early to mid 1980s. This film was November 1985. The film showed 2 men fighting it out and resolving their issues. 2 years later Reagan & Gorbachev finally met at a table on December 8th 1987 to end the Cold War & the Nuclear Arms race between the US & the USSR. That INF Treaty changed the world and TRULY stopped a possible WWIII during the 1980s.

One of the best Pop-music soundtracks of all time, right along with Footloose. All the 80s movies had killer songs attached to the movies... Rocky III, Beverly Hills Cop, Fame, Top Gun, An Officer and a Gentlemen, Flashdance, Karate Kid, Vision Quest, Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Back To The Future, Ghostbusters, Desperately Seeking Susan, The Goonies....etc...

Dolph Lundgren was 1 of 8,000 people who tried out for the role of Ivan Drago. He initially didn't get the part because he was too tall and skinny. After meeting Sly Stallone and getting some advice on bulking up, he with the help of Arnold Schwarzenegger and months of work was able to gain weight for the role

Great reaction as always Verdy !! This was filmed during the Cold War between the USA and the Soviet Union in the 1980s. I saw this movie at the theaters in 1985. When this was being filmed Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) was dating Ludmilla Drago ( Brigitte Nelson) who was the wife of Drago in this movie. Cheers from Texas and have a great day Verdy.

The guy who plays Drago, his name is Dolph Lundgren, and he is an actual Black Belt in Karate. During the filming of Rocky 4: Sylvester asked Dolph to punch him 1 time as hard as he can, cause he wanted to feel how hard/strong he actually was. After that 1 punch, Sylvester ended in the ICU for 9 days.
@granadosvm
@granadosvm 2 ай бұрын
Sylvester Stallone asked Dolph to really fight him for footage for the movie, but I think it was not one punch, it was 15 seconds. Still, very impressive from Dolph's actual power, though.

All the international boxing organizations moved away from prolonged fights (15-round bouts were reduced to 12), as well as changes to boxing gloves, to minimize the risk of traumatic brain injury. The last 15-round heavyweight title fight was on October 16, 1987 between Mike Tyson and Tyrell Biggs.

@FrancisXLord Yes. Duk Koo Kim in 1982. He collapsed 19 secs into the 14th round after suffering a knockout by champion Ray Mancini. He fell into a coma and passed away 5 days later. The last 15-round middleweight title fight was on June 7, 1997 - Flores v Holland, nearly 15 years after Kim's death.

My favorite of the Rocky movies. First time I saw it, I was terrified of Drago because they made him look almost like an indestructible Terminator. Fun facts: The exterior shots of Russia where Rocky trains were filmed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The mountain Rocky climbs are two mountains next to each other because one has a waffle restaurant at the top. The final fight in Moscow was actually shot at The PNE Agrodome in Vancouver. At one point during filming of the fight, Dolph punched Sly so hard in the chest, his heart started to swell and he had to be taken to the hospital.

I saw the Rocky movies out of order. IV was the first one I saw, then III, then I, then II. Weird, I know, but I was a kid watching cable. But that also meant that I watched those first 3 knowing what was going to happen to Apollo and Mick.

I watched that movie in the theaters, I remember the times and there were people criticizing the more modern methods of training, I always use the example of Jack Lambert, the most terrifying Linebacker of his time, by today's standards with metrics for how much they bench, how much they weight, how high the can jump, he would have not been picked. But statistics can hardly measure heart and attitude. Also remembering those times, I find logical that the Politburo that they liked Rocky's speech, because American's used to make speeches about "we will always win because we stand for the right things, not like communists", so a message of everybody changing together might not have been their preference, but much better than what they could have been feared was the government-prepared speech.

One interesting fact about this film (I have quite a few) is that the female screams you hear from the crowd (first round) in the Apollo fight were REAL from extras as people thought Carl Weathers was really being beaten to a pulp. People thought Dolph was going to kill him. That’s how real the fight choreography was in this film.
@thewolfofwallstreet627
@thewolfofwallstreet627 2 ай бұрын
Fun fact. They did toy with the idea of having Apollo live, and he just ended up being physically disabled to where he ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. There was an arc in this film where he resented Rocky for throwing the towel, and how upset he was that he'd have to spend the remaining years of his life in a wheelchair. I forget why they changed it to him just outright being dead, but I believe Stallone even said he wish he had gone the route of having Apollo just end up in a wheelchair instead. Either way, I love this film. Granted, it's not as great story wise compared to some of the other Rocky films like the first three obviously, or even arguably the sixth one in "Rocky Balboa." But, I think it's a very emotional film imo. Plus, I feel like the music for this movie in particular plays more of a prominent role.

Adrian was the one person who cannot tell him he can’t win. Those words could have gotten him killed. Anyone else can tell a man that, but his woman can not. He has to believe he is her champion. That he’s an unstoppable force, and she’s the one who gives him that

I like to think if Adrian hadn't gone to Russia to support Rocky, then that's exactly what would've happened. I think even Adrian realized that while he was gone, and she knew he was going to fight Drago no matter what she wanted. That's why she went to Russia to support him in the end because that would give him his best chance to survive against an unstoppable force like Ivan Drago.

Yep. Even has him tell the dude off and let him know he fights for himself (in the other cut he’s more dramatic. Nodding his head like “yeah. That’s right.” Than looks over to yell it a second time). And also all this time I thought he said “you’re dead” to Rocky at the start of the final round but he really said “to the end”.

From Wikipedia: "Burning Heart", which is about an "all or nothing" battle, was inspired by the Cold War, as shown by lyrics such as "Is it East versus West?" and "Can any nation stand alone?" The Communist East versus Capitalist West conflict is reflected in the film by the fight in the boxing ring between Rocky and Ivan Drago.

In 2021 while we were all locked down with the covid thing, Sly Stallone re-cut and produced a directors cut this move Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago. It's worth checking out as there quite a bit of diffrence between the 1985 version and the director cut. The directors cut got better reviews than the 1985 version. The training montage was filmed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, No one from the west went to Russian in 1985 unless you really had to. Other filing locations were Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, LA, Las Vegas and Nevada.

I've always wondered why People watching Rocky 4 are so shocked by Apollos death, we saw the trailer from this movie tell us that he's going to die. As it says "He could have stopped the fight. He could have saved his best friends life" it's a giveaway before the movie was even shown in the cinema. Anyway I love this movie and all the first reaction videos you People do. RIP Carl Weathers

In fairness my friend, it's probably because they never saw that spoilery trailer. The Rocky films were terrible for spoiling the plot before the film's release. It's like the studio was so afraid it would flop they had to put the most dramatic parts of the plot in the trailer. Did you see the Rocky II trailer? Why bother seeing the film when you more or less know what's going to happen? Films these days rely on shocks and surprises, and rightly so I say. By the way, I edited this video so I appreciate the feedback. I'll also point your comment out to the reactor (very busy girl who doesn't have time to read every comment), I'm sure she'll appreciate it.

The 2014 Robocop was okay, but I think the original film holds up better because...well I don't want to go into detail because I don't want to spoil it for the lady. However, I will say that a story is more interesting when you lose almost everything you love, while struggling to maintain your humanity, than a story about a man losing his humanity while fighting to keep those he loves in his life if that makes sense.

It's packed with so many great songs. Till this day I have some Rocky 4 songs on my playlist when doing training (especially Vince Di Cola songs like Training Montage and the second one, and No easy to Way out by Robert Tepper :) ). From the time perspective, maybe it's a bit cringy movie ;) but i still love it. To be fair many movies from 80s are cringy ;) - they all have these catchy songs, emotional video scenes (ie. training etc.), but yea, that's what i love :D It's like a starter pack of the 80s movies - catchy soundtracks, some emotional or breakdown scenes - driving in the car, or doing training (like "preparing for the challenge" ;D), having some doubts, flaws and then the final boss ;)))

To answer your question Verdy, no, it is not legal in boxing to pick up your opponent and throw them across the ring. Drago commits some extreme fouls in both of his fights that would easily disqualify him.

True, but they did say the fight wasn't sanctioned, so it wasn't counted as a professional boxing match. It was an exhibition.

@@thewolfofwallstreet627 the match outcome wouldn't go on their fight records, but Drago could still be disqualified in an exhibition match.

@@ButteredToast32 True, but you're takin the fight way too seriously. In real life, boxers play defense by actually blocking punches with their gloves, or dodge attacks. They don't just blatantly block shots with their faces like Rocky does. In reality, most of the Rocky characters wouldn't make it as professional boxers irl because they don't play defense. However, it's just a movie. We both know they exaggerate certain aspects in films for dramatic effect, so lets not take it seriously. ;)

Brigitte Nielsen (Drago's wife) was married to Sylvester Stallone from 1985 to 1987.

There is a fifth and a sixth Rocky, but also a seventh and eighth that I feel deserve to be included. And also a ninth that's pretty decent.

I think you mean there's only two more rocky films, and a creed trilogy that's a spin off film series of the rocky franchise. They're all worth watching imo, even Rocky V. I think if you're a die hard boxing fan, or a former one like me, then you'll love some of the social commentary on corrupt figures in boxing at the time like the caricature of Don King in the film. Or how it covers subject matter of what a lot sports athletes tend to go through when they're career reaches a certain point in their lives if you know what I mean. I don't want to spell it out because I don't want to spoil it for Verdy, but still. And even if you never followed boxing, it's still worth checking out because it covers a chapter in Rocky's life that's crucial to his character in a lot of ways. And, I love how it showed how the events of "Rocky IV" impacted his life.

I hope you do a reaction to Rocky V. It's not as good as the other movies, but it's still worth watching because it does have some moments in the movie that are intersting. Plus, it acts as sort of an epilogue to the events of this movie, as the events of "Rocky IV" tend to impact Rocky way more than this film lets on. I'll leave it at that. Great reaction as always.

Great reaction as always Verdy! After "Rocky 5" and "Rocky 6/Rocky Balboa" - PLEASE, PLEASE be the first to react to Stallone's 1981 film "NIGHTHAWKS"! THEE MOST UNDERRATED COP MOVIE OF ALL TIME, with Stallone as a New York cop fighting terrorism in America 20 years before 9-11-2001! Enjoy!

Yes ! "Over The Top", "Daylight", "Paradise Alley ", "Cliffhanger" , and "Lock Up" are some of Stallone's BEST NON FRANCHISE FILMS that everyone walking out of the theater agreed were good!

What's funny to me is neither Dolph Lundgren who plays Drago nor the actress who played his wife are Russian. Fun Fact: Sylvester Stalone used to be married to the actress playing Drago's wide. She co-starred in the movie Cobra with him and starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Red Sonja. She got on drugs and was on a reality show called Celebrity Rehab where she hooked up with the rapper Flava Flave.

Drago was definitely juicing. Though the guy can play the hero or the villain and has definitely made a living out of acting.

He does, as this was briefly alluded to in "Creed II", the rocky film series spin off. However, we shouldn't go into detail about it, as Verdy still hasn't seen the last two rocky films yet, nor the first Creed film, so we'll get to it when we get to it.
