I happen too agree. He comes back for one last shot at redemption and too prove that the last thing too age on somebody is their heart and spirit. That’s why I love Rocky Balboa. He’s old as hell when he made it but the fact that he did shows that his character has balls after not having been in the ring for years. And all that stuff he was doing in the ring was real. So many people often say it's a low point in the series but honestly 4 was terrible for the most part. It had some good moments but Apollo's death was overshadowed by the fight and it just felt disjointed to me. I'd still watch 4 but I never cared for the story, 5 on the other hand had a lot of depth and it made it more memorable than 4.

Even Stallone has expressed how disappointed he was with how "Rocky V" turned out. But there are a lot of redeeming qualities in the movie, namely returning Rocky to his more dramatic roots, and having more character depth to the story. If we're keeping 100, in terms of pure storytelling, acting, character development, etc, "Rocky IV" might actually be the worst lol. But given when it came out, and how it took advantage of the Cold War era, and how unabashedly over-the-top it is, it's easy to see why "Rocky IV" was the most profitable and arguably the most popular entry in the series. It's a fucking miracle that arguably the dumbest of the "Rocky" movies provided dramatic weight for the eventual "Creed" spin-off's which are more in line tonally with the first "Rocky" movie.

@@LambOfGodNWA I think 4 should've been about Apollo fighting someone tough and losing and having to confront his ego and more importantly his pride. Having a separation with rocky because he wants to hold on to a version of himself that simply is fading with time and can't come to terms with it yet. He could've fought rocky at Mick's gym still with the fire in him but mostly just to vent his frustration and ultimately learn to embrace change.

I think a lot of people had a bad taste in their mouth after their first viewing of Rocky V because it wasn't the kind of story they expected. They wanted him to get it all back by the end and that didn't happen. That's always been the joke about how his son aged several years between the two movies. Sly addressed this simply by saying that he wanted his son in the movie with him. It was a chance for them to be together on something very meaningful. That was a theme in the movie when Rocky went off with Tommy which paralleled real life when Sly would be away from home for months at a time filming movies, leaving his family behind.

@@thedefinitionisthis only reason Rocky isn't in the movie is cus Stallone didn't write it. From the way it looks, Stallone seemed to have had some idea of where he wanted to take the Creed movie series. but the studio decided to go ahead without him. Dolph Lundgren went into the movie without realizing that Stallone had anything to do with it. Stallone even went after Lundgren because of this but Lundgren explained to him what really happened and he apologized. so the studio is only making Creed 3 for the money and not from the heart if Stallone had done it.

Rocky V gets an unfair rap because it is the fifth movie in a series of masterpieces. One thing that is not mentioned is how great it was to see Sylvester Stallone elevate non-actors into Hollywood stars. He did it with Mr. T (Clubber Lang in Rocky III) - who had been a 'Tough Guy' amateur fighter before his debut, and the late Tommy Morrison, a real-life up-and-coming heavyweight boxer whose first acting role was as Tommy Gunn in this movie. Stallone had a real eye for talent.

A lot of people don't care for Rocky V because there isn't much action in it from Rocky. But I think it's an important film in the Rocky franchise. It adds more character depth to Rocky and Adrian and shows how they handle the struggles of life and having to start from the beginning all over again. It has similarities to the original Rocky film. Of course it's still the worst of the Rocky franchise but it's definitely worth watching.

Sage Stallone was a treasured friend of mine. He always liked to take the p*** out of his performance in this film, and for that matter, his family; he was very proud and protective of his father's legacy but was also critical about some of his life and career choices, like a lot of adult children of movie stars. Sage was a rabid lover of exploitation films, so much so that he started a company with his close friend Bob Murawski, the longtime editor for director Sam Raimi, called Grindhouse Releasing, which did theatrical revivals and home video releases of wild films like CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, PIECES, and THE BEYOND. They're still in business today, and I've been lucky to work on some of their releases. Sage also directed a 30 minute short film, VIC, a very touching drama about a long out of work actor getting one last chance at a big part. If you google Sage's name and the title, you will likely find a source where you can watch it. Once, during the heyday of MySpace, a rando dude DM'd me the equivalent of a drunken pickup line, typing, "OMG U R SO HOTTT, U LOOK LIKE SLY STALLONE!!" Naturally, I forwarded Sage the message. He replied back to me, "NO! TELL HIM IT'S A WIG! TELL HIM YOU'RE BALD, *BALD*, LIKE YUL BRYNNER IN THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR! YEAH, WHATEVER...TALK TO YOU LATER, *DAD*!" Ten years he's been gone and I miss him terribly still.

But it's also filled with: strength, inspiration, self-empowerment, love, rising to the challenge, strive to bounce back and give the chance to RISE again. Like the Phoenix reborn from its ashes. Why are they losing all the money because Paulie signs a power of attorney? That doesn't make any sense to me. Why Paulie? 2. Rocky is just coming back from a big fight (so not a forgotten sports star) and shouldn't have any other opportunities like advertising or anything like that to make money other than fighting. That doesn't seem like a good story to me. You did a good job 👍 Greetings from Germany

This film is quite sad now. Rocky son was Stallone’s son in real life and died young a few years ago. Tommy Gun was a real boxer called Tommy Morrison, who tragically had his career cut short having contracted HIV and died at 44. A real sad end for those two young guys in this film. 😢

This one is one of my favorites in the franchise. I liked it because of it's sense of realism. It shows the shady side of the sport of boxing. It doesn't have a Holleywood ending in the sense where their lives are miraculously changed, but keeps to a dark grittier undertone with things going full circle.

All the boxers in the Rocky movies are allegories of real-life boxers from the era. Rocky himself is Joe Frasier (although also inspired by Chuck Wepner), Apollo Creed is Muhammad Ali, Clubber Lang is George Foreman and Tommy Gunn is Mike Tyson. Ivan Drago isn't any single person, but he does represent Russian and other Eastern European boxers who rose to prominence following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Rocky V is a good movie, but it's often derided because it just doesn't quite rise to the quality of it's predecessors. That doesn't make it a bad movie, though.

I think it’s not liked as much because they changed the formula. Rocky is not really set up to fight another rival from the start, and he doesn’t get his own training sequence. But beyond that I think it is still worthy, because it is the continuation of Rocky’s life and Family. Your gonna Love the Last film. Tears will be shed! 😢

I don't like Rocky 5 because they magically made him poor again just for story purposes. His kid magically doubled in age overnight. The kid's acting is kind of cringe. Rocky comes off as a bad father for half the movie. Etc.

Mary sweetheart. Don’t ever apologize for being emotional. It’s very rare for a movie franchise to make you such emotions. They don’t make movies like this anymore. Movies with heart, brilliant acting, and relatable characters. Don’t be afraid to show your emotions, as Adrian said in Rocky III, you human. Spending you all my love from Canada hunnybun.

If you thought Rocky 5 was emotional, wait till you watch number 6. It's a great film though - 1&6 constantly battle each other in my head as fave Rocky film, don't think I'll ever decide which is best. There is a similar message in both the films, albeit given at very different stages of Rocky's life.
