Thank you so much for this episode. I have always been a fan of Aikido but never found it useful in real life fighting. This single episode has given me so much insight it dwarfed all my previous learning. Thank you to all 3 sensei.

one thing ive noticed is they often overlook the fact that the creator of aikido had a focus on strikes as well as saying that "Aikido Is 90% Atemi "
This is a very nice video. Shirakawa Ryuji sensei is without a doubt one of the greatest Aikido masters of our time. Ordinary old Aikido masters only perform techniques on their own disciples. They cannot fight Karate and Taido. They can't even light sparr. Shirakawa sensei calmly counters all of Karateka's attacks. It's amazing. This is a very valuable video.

@aikidoiwamathai3105 Жыл бұрын
he lack of triangular footwork to counter, this is weak point from hombu style. If iwama style you don't worry about that, because they have bukiwaza to manage that gap. iwama style footwork like boxing.
Thank you very much to all 3 senseis. Help me better understand distance n self defense from different form of attacks🤟🙏 also I love the respects between the senseis n their smiles
For over 50 years of Karate training, my main counters have been to vital areas, eyes and groin. I used to be one of the smaller Karateka and now I’m one of the older, who needs counters that work for me.
Shirakawa Ryuji sensei's Aikido is so beautiful. Not only that, he knows how to fight. Most Aikido practitioners don't know real fighting. Shirakawa sensei is a very well trained special person.

WHere do you see he knows how to fight. Even in friendly sparring with his friends he is always improvising with the same results that he doesn t have credibility.

Put him in the ring against a decent boxer, Muay Thai, or MMA guy and let's see how long he can last.
@Eternaprimavera73 Жыл бұрын
not on the ring. against a normal person. Otherwise he uses the excuse that they are professional. what he does is useless apart that is not even aikido.

Good to see the techniques between styles in sparring on this channel. Nakano is sure getting a test of using his Taido methods. Got to be very athletic to use Taido, I sure cannot do it.

With much respect to everyone, but as a karate fighter in this video I have only seen friendly sparring, in common practices I have received stronger blows than those seen here, it only served to see Shirakawa Ryuji's techniques in a safe environment for him

If you were paying close attention, you'd notice that hitting harder does no good when your opponent dodges your attack. And that's really the key to what Ryuji is doing.

what a fun watch, they were so respectful but at the same time was quite serious as well.

I would have preferred a neutral setting, since embarassing a dojo-chô is a no-go, still, interesting play of intentions and distance work! A bit rougher would have been nice, though, from experience, as the level goes up, and the gap smaller, the margin between testing and breaking gets narrower.....

Distance is very important. One big issue when sparring different styles is how to enter. You need to figure how to do what you know and jam up the other guy.

A great trio very interesting comparison of different systems
what i like about taido is its a very fluid and disorientating martial art, you can switch everything up so fast and so often that your opponent cant adapt quick enough, the use of feints is a perfect way to throw there balance, get them thinking your left side dominant then switch it up and go for there exposed side

Great video and a very interesting analysis by Taka-san. I am happy that there will be more meetings.
I love how shirakawa sensei when said that he coudnt do any Aikido technique because of attack speed and movement of his opponent, that is Aikido, a to prevent any incomin attack and how to counter, Aikido isnt a frontal Martial Art like S.Seagal portrait it. Cheers 👍
