I like the video but it is really annoying that @1:40 when you show the app result that it does not say "2.1" anywhere. Maybe it would help if we saw the results when a 2.0 or earlier cable is scanned -- or do those not have QR codes? And I know it is not as good as the color coding that differentiates USB cable versions, but is there any normal marking of the version number on HDMI cables? I know my cat cables usually have written on the cable itself whether they are cat 5e, cat 6a, etc.

Yeah, they can copy the qr codes from a few certified cables and then do a few milion cables that in fact aren't certified.

Think the one from the link is counterfeit, different from the one in the video. It's a brand called Ubluker from the link.. hdmi app couldn't scan it, regular qr reader did.

@Ghstyy1 I forgot, but I got it to verify. Don't remember if it was a newer or older verification app, though.

HDMI is a bit of a minefield for the uninformed consumer. Especially as they all look exactly the same. You can’t just pull your old HDMI cable from your first DVD player, and expect it to do 4K HDR at 120hz. A modern high quality 2.0 cable *may* reach 2.1 standards, but it’s unlikely. There’s also a lot of 2.1 cables that aren’t certified, and may be fine, but like you said, it’s best to get a certified cable if you want to know for sure. They’re really not expensive anymore. You don’t need to spend more than $30-$40 USD to get one.

I bought the expensive audioquest carbon HDMI cable long before the HDMI 2.1 back around 2013. So, I assume my cable is not HDMI 2.1 so I wasted all that money? I threw away the box. There's no bar code and it just says high speed. What can I do get another HDMI 2.1 cable?

Hdmi 2.1 back then was not in existence. You probably bought a really good hdmi 1.4 or 2.0 cable. 2.1 didnt come out until 2017. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

Yes, you have to use your head a bit here. It's a good idea to pay extra for cables, but for example, audio that doesn't change. But video ports are being innovated at a great speed, there will be more within two years, so investing large sums of money in this segment of cables makes no sense. The point is that the demand for data flow is increasing extremely and unstoppably in the video segment. This does not happen with audio. Now you can buy hdmi 8K for 10 Euros, which beats all your previous ones. You can easily buy it for a hundred times better quality, but why if it will be a bottleneck in two or three years.

Is there any problem if it is not certified plz
@CiscoSal Жыл бұрын
The certification is there so you know it will hit advertised speeds and capabilities. You might think all hdmi cables are the same but they are not. Check out this video from Linus Tech kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnfFe3dsh6pne7s
