Every "rare Pokemon" has a lower chance to be found, but with the catch combo of 31+ it raises those odds and shiny odds btw. So you had a lucky find with that.

You have to pay attention to your partner pokemon wagging its tail, picking up those items is pretty much the only way to get them. You can farm this way on the new cycling road right before fuchsia city.

go to pokemon road. A lot of berries spawn and you can just move into another area and come back

HyperLibrarian I usually go to Pokemon Road and check the bushes, and go to Cerulean Cave to get some as well. Another tip is go to the Game Corner in Celadon and there is like 5 hidden spots there that drops items, you could also get a Golden Bottle Cap there. Just make sure you save before getting inside and just reset the game when you didn’t get any bottle caps. It also respawns back everyday.

I noticed something strange with spawns in cerulean cave. I was xp farming chanceys and then put all low lvl pokemon in my party to evolve them. With all low levels in the party, instead of rhydons and snorlax's I started getting geodudes everywhere. As soon as I caught a Chauncey and my pokemon leveled up, the rhydons and snorlax's started spawning again. idk if that info is useful at all.
