I've been a little slow to make new videos as I've been busy helping buyers and sellers, but as long as you guys keep appreciating them I will keep on making them! Let me know what videos you want to see and I will do my best to get to it! Share this video with anyone thinking about moving to Vermont!

I don't know if this is relevant to the kinds of videos you're wanting to post on this channel, but I'm curious about the details on the composting law over there. We don't have anything like that where I'm from, so a little insight on resources and expectations of the residents from a Vermonter's PoV would be of interest to me.
@LivinginVermont3 жыл бұрын
Hey Lauren, I will do a video on the laws in the future, especially the environmentally friendly stuff that Vermonters are huge on like no plastic shopping bags and composting laws... as for the composting laws though, it's illegal to throw food scraps/compostable stuff in the trash and so it's encouraged to compost it and use it yourself or bring it elsewhere. They aren't checking the trash bags for food scraps though so it's more of an encouragement than anything else. It's to discourage food wasting and filling landfills with food. You can have it picked up just like trash and recycling.

I spent a few months in Burlington back in 2019 coming from NYC. It was my first time in Burlington and I must admit, I really enjoyed my time there. I definitely would love to live in Burlington, if I could find work and a affordable place to live. I'm currently working as a concierge in Manhattan.
@LivinginVermont3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you loved it! Affordable is pretty hard to find in Burlington so that depends how you define affordable! Currently not much for single family homes below 500k in Burlington and nothing nice below 400k. If you don't mind driving 30-60min that's fine but then you're no longer in Burlington obviously...

@@LivinginVermont what about bedroom apartments? Give me a price range.
@LivinginVermont3 жыл бұрын
You can find condos or older/outdated homes below 300k, and some options between 400-500k(I might have come off a little too strong there), but as for apartments there is a limited amount of them as well. Lots of people, mainly uvm students sublease out a room of a shared 2 or 3 bedroom etc and you can get that for down to $600-1,200(including most/all utilities) depending on size and location, a 1 bed apartment is often around $1,300-1,800. Check out Strongwillpm.com for some available rentals in the area, or "Burlington Vermont Housing and Rentals" Facebook Group to find more options, especially shared rooms and 1 bedrooms. Besides the main sites that is.

Very interested I would love to move there! I wanted if as an furniture upholster would make it out there!
@LivinginVermont2 жыл бұрын
That might be hard, I feel like that's a business that isn't in as high demand in this day and age, but I have no idea... I had to Google "furniture upholsterer" because I didn't know what it was honestly. I imagine you'd need a large population to get sustainable business?

There's a reason behind why Vermont is paying people to move here. It's because the politics in Montpelier have made it so unaffordable for anyone born and raised here that people are moving out. Even a few flatlanders that I know have seen what I'm saying after living here for a few years.

I heard that Vermont had a grant program if you move there. Glad to hear that it still exists! Considering I would be moving across the country in order to move there AND buying a home I'm quite sure I would like qualify for the full grant. 😅 My career field is IT which is in high demand just about everywhere, so I don't doubt I could find work there.

I hope you're well Jacob, take care and any content about Vermont would be great, from a walk In a local park to a meal in a restaurant or a walk around a museum! 😀

Thank you Susan! If you have Instagram I post a lot of stuff you might enjoy @livinginvermontrealestate or my Facebook page Living in Vermont Real Estate. I've moved away from doing the short restaurant and shop videos because it ended up bringing down all my views across the board as YT likes longer videos more. I might create a KZbin channel just for KZbin Shorts so I can avoid that though!

I believe it's anyone who becomes a resident from VT who meets the qualifications, so I don't think you would have a problem if you were moving to VT longterm. If you were getting just a temporary work visa and then leaving I don't think this would apply.

Hi, Jacob! Thanks again for another great informative video. I have shared this with my husband. He currently works as a supervisor at a web hosting company and mostly works remotely. I am pretty sure that he could find a good job in Vermont. He is going to fill out the grant application. We are definitely considering moving to Vermont within the next couple of years. I have read that many wealthy people from states such as New York or Massachusetts, because of the covid scare, have bought a "second home" and are moving to Vermont to work remotely. I am sure this will raise the median cost for homes in certain areas as well as an impact on population growth. What are your thoughts on this over the next couple of years? You had mentioned in a previous video that if you don't mind a commute then finding a home away from a larger "city" or town would possibly be more affordable. I am hoping what has happened to the once laid back and chill Colorado does not happen to Vermont. We are definitely looking for a quiet life and laid back life style, while enjoying the beauty of being active in Vermont's surrounding nature. We have loved and utilized every season in the mountains here in Colorado, but it has just changed so much. I am a psychology student here in denver, and will be eventually working on my masters degree. I would need to transfer to a Vermont university to complete my education. I was wondering if you had any information on how long it takes to prove residency for Instate tuition? We will keep up on your videos. We are planning to visit Vermont hopefully sometime next year. We would like to look you up and possibly utilize your real estate services. I am sure you could help us find exactly what we are looking for when the time is right. Is your business email listed in any of your videos? One more question for now, lol, I am in health care, have worked as a house manager at an assisted living facility, worked with autistic children and I am currently doing covid testing. What is a good place for my kind of work? I am also a death doula and I was wondering with having a large elderly population in Vermont, my services as a death doula would be essential there? If you're not sure what that is I can always elaborate. I will also check out the lists of health care jobs that you had posted. Thanks again for all the Information and responding to comments. Rob
@LivinginVermont3 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob, very long comment haha! Thanks for watching and appreciating my videos! The median cost is always rising due to inflation but the out of state demand is certainly very high so that's a factor as well definitely. I've had a lot of people tell me Colorado has been changing and I hope that doesn't happen to Vermont but who knows what it will look like in 20 years. I'm not sure what it takes to prove residency to schools... if you had a home or rental that might count I'm not sure. My email and phone number are listed with all my videos! I would be happy to help you find a VT home! With the large elderly population Healthcare and assisted living are very important in Vermont and pretty much all the major towns cities have places hiring. Burlington, South Burlington, Colchester, Shelburne, Middlebury, take your pick! I've seen lots of assisted living places hiring in those areas. I'm sure there are jobs available for death doula's as well and I'm sure you can find all that info online. ~Jacob

Interesting… I am trying to move to Vermont. The issue is in selling my house which is on the market. I am looking at buying land in Vermont and building my new home. The first year will be tough as I need an address. I have already got septic, water and building permits lined up. This incentive would be nice. I am highly skilled and trained as an engineer. Vermont isn’t for everyone!!!!! The winters are a bitch, jobs are a bit sparse and may not pay top dollar. Relocating can be hard work. Towns are small and old. Vermont tends to protect local small businesses and having a wal mart in every town with all night night life ain’t happening. But if you enjoy a side hussle of timber framing, homesteading, making syrup in the snowy and potentially muddy syrup season and chasing white tail deer and the occasional moose, the Vermont will work. If your lazy, accustomed to modern amenities, get upset with power outages, glued to your WiFi, etc. Vermont may be a bitch.
