I’m glad you are ok. I was worried about you guys when I heard about the flooding. Also, just because others have it worse, doesn’t mean your problems are any less valid.

My buddy ALFRED, glad to hear that you're doing well. I kept hearing about Vermont and their historic flooding, so, I obviously thought about you and Morgan, and I prayed for both of you to be protected. You look well, Morgan too, so I know my prayers were answered.

You make it look easy, but simply knowing how to use all the different pieces of equipment - as well as stellar skills in reversing - is impressive. Looks really nice now!

I was thinking about you and Morgan during those bad storms and flooding. Was hoping you guys didn’t get hit with tons of damage. In the end, Mother Nature is a whole lot bigger than we are. We fool ourselves thinking we are in charge. You make using heavy equipment easy and graceful…..

Fortunate to have the machines for the road repair. My gosh remember as a kid no one had a closed cab tractor, recall the New Holland/Ford tractors years later offered air conditioning. On that narrow road with so many hazards to negotiate makes one grateful after a days work to sit down at the dinner table not having to fill out an insurance claim.

You need to have post 10 come out and do a little cleaning out on those culverts. He lives there in the New England area and travels all the states and cleans out culverts and drains to help prevent road washouts. He usually sticks to back roads/logging roads where beavers can create problems. I think most towns got on top of cleaning up drains before they came because his go-to spots don't flood anymore.

Well, glad that fix wasn't a large project, annoying setbacks aside. I suppose checking the culverts on that road before any major storm to make sure they're clear is going to become a habit after this batch of bad luck though (Serious, the Truck sliding off the road and then popping a tire? Awful luck)

The qualities that you like in this road, that it is set into the landscape and rutted … make it ideal for storm water flow. Basically it functions like a dry stream bed. Everything here looks like it can be repaired with gravel. If you find the road washes out often, it can be shaped better to encourage flow in ditches / swales at the shoulders.

Yeah, basically every time I go up or down with the excavator I will dig a few more water bars and poke holes in the downhill bank to promote drainage

Albert, I’m really glad that there was no permanent damage to the quarry road and that you were able to repair it in just one day, Were you able to unplug the culvert that caused the trouble in the first place? Apparently Vermont may be expecting another rain storm in the near future and the road could wash out again if the culvert isn’t working as intended.

I could replace those two smaller culverts with one larger one that is less liable to get blocked by debris. That would help out that section anyway
