I bought these two strikers years ago at a bushcraft and survival expo/show directly from Vern. During this hike I used the striker and supplied English flint to ignite milk weed ovum and then char cedar bark for a future fire. Also some cooking. This is a local small Biz so showing my support. Vern’s kits and materials are great. I have 4 of his strikers and lots of his flints. You had a buffet of tinder. His steel produced lots of sparks. Thanks and take care. Nice stove. Kick back.

Kevin I own one of Vern's flint and steel sets. I absolutely love it. I've tried several steels and his is the best so far. The English Flint throws some great sparks. The ability to sharpen your flint with your steel is priceless. I give it two thumbs only because I don't have three thumbs.

Really excellent video on fire starting. In my Boy Scout days, when we were in a hurry, we would also use a file with flint to create a lot of sparks along with some 0000 steel wool.

Nice! I bought one, they send really nice and big pieces of flint with them. I was messing with it and broke it! Lol! So I forged it into a ducks head striker!

Nice flint and steel kit, great job getting that fire going. Thinking of trying flint & steel one of these days. I've seen this jute twine at Meijer that's colored green along side the natural jute twine. I was wondering if the green jute might catch sparks better since it has the dye in it and it kinda looked waxed. Wasn't sure though since it was packaged in plastic if it had a coating for sure. Have you ever seen or tried that? Thanks for the video.

Great piece of kit...might not be as pretty as the more traditional but I see it as very utilitarian that throws great sparks. Whats the knife you are using in this video? Thanks as always and great video!

You should cook a steak in butter. Put steak on fire, baste, flip baste over and over til done. It is super fantastic with a buttery outer crust and moist and tender insides...

Hey Walker, love your channel. My wife and I are talking about HOT TENTING this winter. With the upcoming hot tent season approaching, in your upcoming videos, any chance you might bring a thermometer to show what kind of temps a hot tent can reach and what do you wake up to each morning after the stove has gone cold?

There is no set time given all the variables but here is what I do. First the vent hole or hinges (Altoids tins doesn't need a hole) will start to smoke. It then hits an apex which can if the gas comes in contact with the flame burn. Then it slows down and stops. That's what I am looking for. Doesn't need to totally stop but mostly. Remove from the heat and avoid the temptation to open the tin till it cools off.

This kit "strikes" me as a cool setup.........sorry Technically, that pouch isn’t a "no frills" pouch..........again, sorry. The two thumbs down, are probably still trying to light a fire, rubbing two wet sticks together. Good demonstration on getting the fire going. 👍👏✌️ Have a great week.

To throw sparks on the jute string, it is necessary to strike with the flint, it is necessary not to strike with the steel. Flint should be large. If flint is small it is not good. Watch this video: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZXPipKog7lmZ5Y)
