I was there 3 weeks ago. Just stumbled upon Vernon's collection. What an amazing afternoon looking at all his collection. Vernon is one of the most gracious and welcoming souls you ever will meet. I highly recommend a trip to Newfoundland and tour the Island and see Vernon's top notch collection.

I saw a new 1953 Olds in our little country town in Kentucky. It was the same color as I remember. The neighbors couldn’t believe that it has tubeless tires! I was a little kid, but I loved cars from an early age!👍🤠🇺🇸🙏

I love Vernon's choice in cars for his collection. If I could afford it, my collection would be very similar. My wife and I met Dennis at the Auburn fall auction and swap meet years ago. He is as down to earth and friendly off camera as he is on camera. I wish him the very best and happy hunting.

That 53 Caddy is my dream car! I recall when living in Mount Pearl during the late 40's, 50's when there were many American families in Nfld, one family lived in a home close to where I lived on Park Ave had their 53 Caddy shipped from the USA. I was friends with their kids and was fortunate to get to ride in that beauty. I'l never forget that experience. I visited Vernon's Museum recently during a holiday back home and got to see his 53 Caddy for real. It was truly a joy to behold!

Thanks for the memories. My folks bought a new "53 Olds 98 convertible. It was a special car back then and my mom loved to drive it fast with the top down. My dad taught me to drive in that car then a buddy's sister with an old Plymouth taught me to drive stick.

What a trip down memory lane Dennis...I loved the 53 Golden Anniversary Cadillac..my dad owned a G.A 1953 4 door saloon &.had a 17 band self seeking radio.aerial went up and down while seeking.....only 53 Caddy in South Australia and was in Sky blue..at 100 mph there was no wind noise and go down a dirt corrugated road as if on bitumen.& wind the needle hard on the 110mph.19 foot 6 inches..do blackies down the road and we did love the service station guy looking for the petrol cap..After she came off the ship,dad pulled up to get a steak sandwich at Port Adelaide and some one pinched the hubcaps,cut glass inner caddie emblems.magnificent caps & Dad was devastated and ended up getting a new set from Caddy,.. chromed,though they were not half the hubcaps of the original big 9.00 15 tyres..I think she was $17,000 to OZ.Dad sold her in 1972 for $12.000..wonder what she would cost today? & 2 hhrs to wash & wipe..!! :)) I have a photo of me drivers seat age 9...

First, the people of Newfoundland are the best. Even their dog, the big Newfoundland dog, and, the Black Labs are fine. Swift current is in a lovely spot. My question is this: how did this relatively young looking man, Vernon, manage to build this collection. A tribute to the fine people of that part of Canada.
@agems562 жыл бұрын
There was a show just recently on CBC television I believe, and Vernon said that he used to be a power lines man, so on the job he could spot possible restoration projects down on acreages from his vantage point!

Dennis, are you a young guy or something ? Every hot--rodder in 1955--1959 either had a set of Fiesta hubcaps ( from 1953 'til 1955 ) or a set of Star--Fire Olds hubcaps from 1956. This was the last year of 15 inch wheels. The 1957 had 14 inch wheels. These were called Spinners or Flippers, due to the three "paddles " ...In 1957, it was the Dodge Lancer spinners that were the hot item.

I never understood how US collectors determined which is/was rare. saying a 53 caddy eldo was/is rare, would make say a 53 MG of the same time extremely exclusive. Just saying... Sidenote: when taking euro ways of calling something rare: the fiesta would be rare, the eldo, not so much
@kfrerix97776 жыл бұрын
Okay, in '53 only one half of one percent of Cadillacs were Eldorados - that is what we call "rare" in our backwards world. In America, 532 is a low production number, although. I know that's a pretty big run in Snarkton or wherever, but not around here since about 1908.
