You know, the thing that struck me most with this video, is that DJ seems to be so much happier. I haven’t watched tons of stuff with DJ, but he’s just seems somehow lighter emotionally to me, like a lot of really great healing is happening. Anyway, I could be completely wrong, but if I’m right he certainly deserves it.

@@goodluck2522 You know, I really don’t understand trolls. You must have such suffering in your life to go out of your way to find negative things to say about people. Does it actually make you feel better trying to pull people down to your level?

I am a 2 year shooter and weapons handler, Tac Games competitor, and occasional 2-gun. None of that matters and that is my point. I am new to the GBRS Group performance. I have done CrossFit for a while to train for TTG, and they NEVER mention grip training. The key that Vernon stated is the elbow health. I have been suffering from elbow and forearm stuff on my support arm. This is excellent info! So much appreciated. I am super stoked to have found you guys

Something that I've been using recently that has really had a positive effect on my grip strength and overall joint health are steel clubs and maces. It takes a bit of practice but I think its something that I'm going to continue playing around with forever.

I love single hand kettlebell farmers carry as it works my grip and core at the same time. I’ve been a gym rat for 20 years but never really trained my grip until the last few years. It’s really helped me as a pistol shooter, especially shooting thinner/lighter pistols like my edc Glock 48MOS.

I do grip training every day. 3 laps 45lb plates. "Hook grip" 2 laps pinch grip 25lb 1 plate each hand on both. Move your elbow very slightly behind your center line. And have a slight bend in your elbow....as long as your not straight armed...."DONT shrug" moving your elbow behind your center line is enough to flex your traps/shoulder/and scapula. The lighter your steps the more your working your forearms. Heavy steps naturally forces your shoulders to shrug via bounce. So you dont have to do it intentionally. Eliminate your thumbs from every lift Your forearms will get (Big/Shredded) Grip Carrie's into every lift. Train it all the time.

DJ. Curious on your opinion on strengthening the wrists. Not sure if I'm getting carpal tunnel or nerve issues but wrists are incredibly fucked for a few years. I've always done grip training and of course dips and push-ups ect but the last few years wrists have seemed to weaken. As a former SF support guy I'm doing my best to keep in shape and passed your videos. Great knowledge.

grip is something DJ has been preaching for a LONG time... I remember attending one of his dad's courses back in 06/07 and the emphasis on hand/forearm tendon strength was emphasized by the Team dudes there. It's something that I've worked on since... as DJ has stated, grip will go long before anything else goes.

Can you clarify what you guys meant by "using your thumbs" in pull ups? Do you mean grab it like a pistol with bar split between fingers and thumb; or thumb on same side of bar as fingers but hooked onto the bar?

My only concern with additional grip training is that, as someone who trains 6 days a week at the gym, it negatively affects my push and pull days. I feel like my training sessions already have more than enough grip training built in without doing extra grip exercises. But maybe for someone who trains only a couple days per week it can be helpful.

Talking of wrist wraps, i had to start using them after developing acute bilateral carpel tunnel syndrome, and after seeing a specialist, it turned out to be multiple stress fractures on both arms. I carried on working throughout the problem all last summer not realising i was working essentially with two fractured forearms while roofing 😆 What fixed the after pains in my hands was swinging kettlebells, although i still have weakness and pain in my wrists which leaves me having to wear wrist wraps through a full workout, which i fully admit, i cannot even get close to the same without them due to lingering pain.........the wraps eliminate a large amount of pain for myself. This might help me lose the need to wear them.
