VERONA, a perfect day trip - Italy Slow Travel

Today we are headed for Verona on the train. We love being centrally located in Mantova from where we can take day trips to a number of larger and more touristic cities.
After a nice and quick train (8 euro per person round trip) ride we arrive in Verona, today will be very hot so we decide to walk into the city. We explore the Piazza Bra where the arena (really does look like a mini-Coloseum) is located and then make our way to the world famous balcony of Romeo & Juliet. We quickly decide to skip the long line in the 38C/98F degree weather in favor of more casual sightseeing.
The day continues with a nice stroll to some other stunning piazzas, some gelato and some lounging in the shade as it is truly scorching hot. We even run into a market which always improves Debbie's day :-)
It ended up being a wonderful day despite the crowds, so certainly look beyond Romeo and Juliet when visiting Verona.

You will definitely be pleasantly surprised by all there is to see and do. Though we did walk the other side of the river, we didn't see everything. I would suggest planning 2 days in Verona, wish we would have, so we will definitely be going back. I would love to see an opera or concert of some sort in the arena someday, they say its magnificent.
