In August we spent 4 nights in Mantova and explore the city both on foot and by bike. We even take a cooking class and learn about the traditional cuisine of the area. We've included the recipes below as well as the link to this experience.
Risotto Mantovano
Ingredients:
Vialone Nano rice (1 small cup per person)
Sausage mince (same weight as rice)
1 small onion
1 sprig of rosemary
Splash of red or white wine
grated grana padana or parmesan cheese
Method:
- Put the rice in a saucepan with cold water and a generous pinch of salt. Use the same volume of rice as water (1 cup of rice = 1 cup of water). Cover. Bring to the boil, then cook gently until the rice has absorbed all the water. (15-20 minutes).
- Cook the sausage mince with chopped onion and rosemary, and a little wine. It's ready when all the wine has evaporated.
- Add the cooked sausage meat to the rice and mix well. Add grana padana cheese to taste, and serve hot. It also reheats well if you want to eat it the day after.

Sbrisolona cake
Ingredients:
150g plain white flour
150g cornmeal flour
150g white sugar
150g butter, softened
150g blanched almonds, chopped
2 egg yokes
pinch of salt
grated zest of 1 green lemon
To decorate
handful of whole almonds, unblanched
Method
- Line a cake tin with baking paper and preheat the oven to 180°.
- Knead together all the ingredients (except the whole almonds) to make a dough. It should be quite rough and crumbly.
- Break it into small pieces and drop them into the cake tin, to give it a crumbled appearance. Scatter the whole almonds on top.
- Bake for 30 - 40 minutes, checking it regularly, to make sure it has a nice yellow colour. Leave to cool in the oven for a few minutes to ensure the cake is cooked through.

As a travel blogger, I always look to travel news for guidance, wanderlust, and inspiration. For years, I’ve been collecting details about travel while traveling the world, and always enjoy reflecting on them in my day-to-day life. Everyone has a different lens through which they view the world, which is why it’s important to heed the advice and insight of others. Visiting such destinations like yours make me feel more like an explorer, one of the many joys of traveling......so thank you!!!!!!

Hello We enjoy your channel although you haven’t posted a lot lately. Too busy enjoying you’re life- quite right. My wife and I love Italy too and visit regularly but mainly the south. We want to tour the north and particularly like you’re itinerary in Piedmont but also your stay in mantova. It’s very central for exploring and day trips. Are you able to advise of your Airbnb in mantova. Our ideal plan would be to tour most regions in Italy as the cultures, food, language etc are so different. Like you we prefer the smaller “true” italien places rather than the tourist traps. Thanks Brian

Hi there! Yes, the smaller towns have that true italian flair for sure. We did not stay in an Airbnb in Montova. It was a great little hotel just at the arch of Piazza Sordello, Hotel dei Gonzaga. And yes, we are very busy with the new house in Umbria and haven't been traveling a bunch. Just little trips to places like Assisi, Spello, Montepulciano, Pienza, hot springs, movies in castelli etc. 😁 Thank you so much for watching💞🇮🇹 Debbie and Stijn

Such a great video! I'd never heard of Mantova, but it looks beautiful! I laughed so much at 3:29 as had never heard that word before but it's perfect in such hot weather! Thank you for showing the prices for hiring an electric bicycle and a normal bike... it looked like a great day out! I loved the cooking class and the lesson in the correct pronunciation of "risotto"... what a fun evening! Miss you guys! 😃💕 ~ Mandy

Hi Mandy and Lee, I had never heard of Mantova either, I think it's one of those well kept secrets from the masses. Such great access to the top places by train or car. I love learning the proper pronunciation of words in Italian, sounds so much prettier 😊 Thanks for watching 💞🇮🇹 Debbie and Stijn
