Trying to take justice into your own hands presents all kinds of legal problems, and believe me, if you have to go to court over it, the court does not pay you to hang out for many hours trying to get justice. You will end up losing a lot of time as well as your money. And if you steal from those you perceive as theives, they are better at it than you, and you will end up in misery, and lose. Sorry to say this, but if your household budget is configured in a way that you are living paycheck to paycheck to the extent that you literally can't do without $200 for 2 more weeks until your next paycheck, you need to examine your finances. Not saying I'd be happy about a payroll mistake, but mistakes happen. She's going to get her money on the next paycheck, it's not the end of the world. Maybe Veronica can look at cutbacks with some of her discretionary spending, or maybe do some Uber and Lyft driving for a few extra bucks in cash until she saves up a bit of a reserve. I know it's tough in this economy, but it's worth giving that a try. Everyone should have several months worth of expenses saved up in a bank account just in case.

Bruh. How much someone has in their account is a moot point. When you earn the money, it is not unreasonable to expect to be paid. It's only $200, right? Why not just write out a check from discretionary funds and pay the employee? Surely they have enough in their emergency account to cover it!
@scottgurstein10 күн бұрын
@@ladywytch129 It depends on the company, their cash flow systems and payroll procedures. Some small mom 'n pop companies can probably just say, "oops, didn't mean to shortchange you there, bucky! Let me send a quick DM to our in-house payroll processor and have her print a new check for you to pick up this afternoon." Other companies might use payroll firms like ADP which have procedural or contractual limits in their agreements with employers which won't allow them to do special check runs. Each situation may be unique. Either way, yes...the employer's payroll department screwed up, but also you're living too close to the edge if you can't live without $200 for 14 days.

I run a business and I have a payroll company. You can run an extra check at any time and have it direct deposited into the employee's account the next morning. The extra payroll costs $50. Suck it up.

What she did was wrong. She should have gone the legal route and called the labor board. This is one where I think she should be fired and arrested for theft.

In the UK Veronica would be dismissed, even if employees are owed money they have to wait until the next payroll cycle. Theft is classed as gross misconduct.

Yes, Veronika would most likely be fired for this. That is the point. But, what many people, apparently, do not understand is that all of the carp people 'put up with' would be eliminated if everyone was like Veronika. So, in the meantime, keep your head down, run when they whistle, be forever thankful as the bills mount up and be 'a team player'. A peasant mentality has turned the USA from a shining beacon of hope into a ... ?

I’m usually able to agree with a lot of points of Veronica’s. Not on this tho. Theft is theft and two wrongs don’t make a right. Eye for an eye is Old Testament, these days we turn the other cheek and do what’s right. Stealing isn’t that

The company stole from her. They’re actually getting off easy by her taking it out in product.

Caesars entertainment does this to people on a regular basis. I was forced to wait an entire month more than once for my pay to be corrected when it was someone else's mistake. I quit when they denied my fmla after my one year old son was in the hospital for over a week

You do not get to pick how you are compensated. I would have contacted payroll directly. Usually the managers do not know what options payroll has to correct the problem. $200 is enough money that the payroll department should consider getting the money to you today or tomorrow.

Veronica gets fired and prosecuted for theft, spending a night in jail before spending savings or maxing out a credit card to bond out…she hires a criminal defense attorney and an employment lawyer, going into massive debt. She sues the employer for wage theft and retaliatory discharge, litigation takes two years, she loses her car and her apartment. She eventually wins a little money. The lawyers make bank. The End.

This happened to me at a previous job. Didn't get my first paycheck for almost four weeks because they 1) didn't tell me i was supposed to be logging my hours on a system they never told me existed and 2) had me listed in the wrong office in another city for some unknown reason. I almost just walked out. Truthfully I should have. Their payroll department was an absolute joke. They forgot to take out my state taxes for an entire year that I worked there.
@marychrishannon70485 күн бұрын
And you never noticed that state taxes were not being withheld? ? For an entire year. There are forms to fill out for payroll. Did you fill out the form to indicate you did not want taxes withheld. That is a legal option. You still have to pay the taxes to the state at tax time. You are responsible for making sure you are being paid on time. It doesn't hurt to ask. Did you ask when you were hired, when is payday and will I get a check at at that time. Did you get an employee manual that included info on paycheck procedure.
@JS-mg1mk5 күн бұрын
@@marychrishannon7048 they were taking out state taxes the entire first year I worked there and then just stopped the second year. Nothing had changed about my situation. I never altered anything. They just stopped taking them out. I never said I wasn't responsible for paying my state taxes. I said it was an absolute nightmare to have an entire year of taxes be due at one time because my company's payroll department was incompetent and changed my deductions without my knowledge or permission.
@JS-mg1mk5 күн бұрын
@@marychrishannon7048 And yes, I knew when payday was and how my pay was supposed to get to me. THEY did not tell me that my hours were to be logged into a system they never informed me about and nobody else in my office was required to do this, it was only for my position. They also didn't list me in the correct office which was, again, their mistake, meaning my first check didn't even go to the right place when they finally cut it.

Unfortunately this won't fly anywhere. The intent to repay was communicated and acted upon within 24 hours. Yes it was slow, but honored. Stealing from someone and deeming it compensation on your terms for loss of wage or money is still stealing.

Veronica said b**** betta have my momey, pay me what you owe me 🎶 I was missing my ENTIRE paycheck (and I get paid monthly), due to no fault of my own, and they wanted me to wait an entire month. They gave me the whole, we have to get a signature, it takes x-numbef of days, blah blah blah you're better off waiting for your next direct deposit. So the next time you find yourself feeling guilty about leaving early, calling in sick, taking vacation, just remember: they do not give a d*** about you, your mortgage, your kids, nome of it. Tomorrow is not promised, always put yourself unapologetically first.

This is not realistic. It is stealing because it's not in the way that you are contracted to receive the money. Go through other avenues to get the money due to you. This will likely land you in jail!
