So true. It’s a way to make the masses subject to another’s other rule. So much of what is going on- the truly designed and wicked intents- in the world have been covered up and disguised. The motives and results still haven’t been recognized by many… praying for America bu it’s also the world all around. We need strength and Jesus. Haha who would have guessed this from a Veronika short?!?

Agreed. It's depressing. The upside (can I call it that?) is that, at least for me, it increases my empathy for folks in this situation. I don't know if that gives me any power to change it, but at least it helps connect me to those going through it. It humanizes us all.

This was similar to what my child went through. The apartment was old and in extreme need of repair when he moved in, but he needed a place and signed the lease. Before the lease was up, he got a notice that he had to move because they were going to renovate the unit. They offered another unit for twice the amount, but said there would be several new "fees" on top of that. He decided to move elsewhere, moving out before the lease was over, but still paying for the empty apartment to avoid having to pay 3 months for every month left on the lease. They stacked up "cleaning and repairs" penalties against the security and cleaning deposit. We left that place more than spotless and a door they claimed was broken did not have a mark on it when I took pictures before he turned in the keys. Even with those pictures, the manager laughed and said, "so sue us." These corporations that are buying up all of the apartments and jacking up the prices should be illegal. Their greed is the only reason for the housing shortages right now. It's insane.

That's been happening a lot where I live. Speculators come in from out of state, buy up old properties, evict everyone, renovate them to be "luxury" apartments, and rent them out for 2-3 times what they used to be, pricing out anyone who ever used to live there. It has caused a serious homelessness problem.

I don't understand the American system. Considering all the bills that the people there have to take care of, what if you make a 6 figures salary and your bills take up more than half of that to the point of having no savings and you can't even get an affordable rent because you make 'too much' inspite of the expenses. That is no dream, it's clearly a nightmare for the average American

Crazy! In the last 5 years I had to relocate 4 times because of poor management of the rental units and high rental prices. 2 units had mold and 2 had a pest infestation. 1st unit a neighbor moved in across from me. We were the only units on the floor. I had Roaches walking through my front door. So I moved out. 2nd Unit the building was separating and when it rained outside, it came into our units. Landlord tried to downplay it until we took it to the City. They let us out of our lease, but didn't fix the problem. The next unit I only lived in for 2 weeks after discovering an insect infestation that they tried to cover up. They let me out of my least after I showed proof. I had to stay in a hotel for few weeks while I paid for storage. Then I moved to a newer unit that increased my rent by $300. Overall, I went from $1,000 per month to now paying $1,650 per month. The 3rd unit only lasted a year because my Neighbors apartment would flood and leak over to my unit. He had Alzheimer's and the landlord would avoid fixing his maintenance request to avoid him.. I had to move out after finding mushroom growing out of my wall. They tried to deny the mold, but 1 worker told me off record that they indeed found mold. So I had to advocate hard to relocate. My current landlord had the nerve to say I was lucky because they had to relocate me to a new unit days before my current lease was set to expire. So, my monthly rent remained at $1,645 instead of the $100 increase. Mind you I had to hire workers to throw away 80% of my items due to the mold problem (Renter insurance Sucks). Also, I worked 3 jobs and take care of my disabled sister while all this was going on. Now, I work a 4th job just to maintain my bills. I am Veronica on and off the job 😢😢

@GingerBreadMan144 Please don't be. (The law is never "fair". It is just. Learn the difference.) My children didn't know we were homeless until 30 years later. They thought we were on extended visits to various friends. To them, it was an adventure. To me, it was survival. Statistically, I was told, it takes men a year to recover financially from a divorce. It takes women about ten years, especially if they have little education or marketable skills. I had a solid education, a profession. It took me twelve years. This was not a path I would have chosen. I railed at God for the daily struggle to stay afloat. But, at the end of it (and there was an end to it), I was able to pray "I see the wisdom of it." You see, my children are testament to beating the statistic that chikdren of divorce don't do well. Both are US Navy veterans; both have families of their own. One is earning a doctorate. The other is happy in a simpler life. Life --snd God! -- is good.

This was me the summer of 2023 - physically disabled and with an 8 year old. I made too much for one route, too little for the other, and there was not one person in the system who gave two shits that we were going to be homeless. I got us a spot on the local news and from that we received ONE offer. We are now underhoused instead of unhoused, having gone from a 2-bedroom garden suite in a gated community to a 1 bedroom walkup in the inner city overnight - and at almost twice the price. I never in a million years thought I'd be grateful to be living with bugs and violence.

I rented for 40 years and I’ve been there. People say you need to keep it at market value. Why? The rent pays the mortgage with a little extra to save for emergencies. Rents here average $1,000. a month. A good job here pays $1500. a month. Do the math. Rich folks look down their noses at me, and other homeless. I live in St. Louis and our rents have gone from an average of $800 a month for a one bedroom apartment to $1500 a month, in the past 2 years. It is a scary situation to be in for many people renting today. My daughter who pays $1100 a month for rent was told her rent will be going up to $1400 a month in March. My niece was paying $1000 a month and her’s was going to be $1200 a month in December. She has moved back home to save for a house. My daughter has decided to move back home for a year to save to buy a townhouse or condo. This is ridiculous what landlords are charging. People use to complain about the cost of owning a house, but I am so happy I bought mine 26 years ago when it was affordable. Being a teacher I would be paying 1/3 of my take home pay in rent today, if I was a renter.

That 2nd apartment community where she was looking to rent...the very FIRST thing to know is whether or not that property is a tax credit property. It sure seems like it is, in which case upper income limits are very much a thing. Years ago when I worked in public housing, I took Tax Credit certification courses. Ownership entities of a tax credit properties can get into HUGE trouble with the state's Housing Finance Agency if they rent a tax credit, rent-restricted unit to someone whose monthly adjusted gross income goes over the limit...even by a tiny amount. MILLIONS of dollars in syndicated tax credits, typically taken all up front from the IRS then sold to corporate buyers for 80 cents on the dollar or something like that (to raise construction or rehab capital) can be ruthlessly recaptured by the IRS if the state HFA determines a tax credit property manager broke the rules governing resident income limits, applicable unit fractions, or any other strings attached. Watch out! "Free" government money/tax credits are NEVER truly free, many strings are always attached.

I've been living in the same apartment for 17 years and I think the only thing keeping them from cancelling my lease renewals is the hefty cost they'd incur for massive renovations when I move out because I have one of the only apartments left with original 1996 fixtures and appliances. Everything - including the bathroom and kitchen counters and cabinets - would have to be stripped and rebuilt. Floors, blinds, paint, everything. They'd have to fix the quick dry concrete in the floor, too, which is notorious for cracking. They save money by letting me stay. I have heard the weeks and weeks of renovations in the other apartments over the years, and it's extensive.

Damn, this makes me think I should rent out my guest bedroom with pets allowed to help someone. But I’ve always got guests. Maybe I should buy a trailer and hook it up for a rental for someone with pets. My veterinarian converted half her basement into an apartment that still comes through the front door. Pet friendly. She had people begging to rent it. When I rented my second bedroom in my San Diego townhouse I always rented way below market but with a massive deposit and background check. It worked reasonably well.

If you think that’s bad here is: Texas. Unique in that landlords do not need to provide notice before raising the rent. However, it is typical in the state to give at least 30 days before increasing the rental rate on month-to-month or yearly leases.

I have always advocated for people to own their home rather than pay rent. I struggled and worked hard to buy my first home. It wasn’t in a great location and tiny, and the commute was tough. But in the end i was paying $215 a month for my house while those in my area were paying $1200 to $1500 for a studio apartment. This was 55 years ago.

Much harder to buy a house now. In Europe it's much more common to rent, people have more freedom to move around and they can upgrade or downsize easily depending on their family circumstances. It's a good system.
@beshkodiak

@ renting is the paradigm in Europe for centuries. The nobility owned all the land and derived their wealth by renting to the peasant and serf. The New World offered the opportunity to own your own land. You can say America was founded on the prospect of classless property ownership. It is ingrained into our culture
@SnowdropWood
@SnowdropWood 13 күн бұрын
With respect, that was significantly more realistic 55 years ago than it is today. Most people would rather own than rent, but unless you come from wealth or can keep living with your parents long enough to save up a deposit, getting on the property ladder can prove impossible. People still struggle and work hard, in fact more folk work multiple jobs now than ever before. But for the average worker, their labour doesn't produce the same fruit it would've done 50+ years ago. Wages aren't keeping up with property prices, and haven't done for decades now. There's a reason most families can't survive on a single wage anymore when it used to be the norm. Scrimping and saving and going without is only effective when there's something left over after unavoidable bills. Anything else is blood from a stone.
@beshkodiak

@@SnowdropWood oh yes! I quite agree. Much different now. 55 years is some time ago, but remember, it was my 55 years. I lived it and i am still living it. Still paying taxes and utilities and the bills. I did not reach a state of grace of wallowing in cash. It is only my opinion ad you may dismiss it out of hand, but it is not free market or corporations that are effing things up. Its the bureaucrat and the federal state. They create rules and regs and taxes to protect their jobs and siphon money to enrich themselves and feed the monster of which they are a part. Just think: how many congress people start their careers with just a salary but leave the government multi- millionaires? Who wants to tax every mile we drive, who wants a 100% inheritance tax? Get those answers and know who to blame

This is exactly why I had to move 3 times within 4 years with a husband who was disabled and had End Stage Renal Disease. And no we cannot buy a house because every bid we put in was out bid by a flipper, or developer! Then the interest rates went up and since we didn’t have 20% to put down kept us out of the running for any mortgage. Condos and townhomes also have HOA fees which add to the monthly mortgage payments so no buying is not an option either.

We have huge government control in California. What's the excuse here?
@robatkins
@robatkins 3 күн бұрын
@ government in California isn’t telling companies what to pay their workers. There’s minimum wages sure, but the government doesn’t have restrictions on how much landlords can charge tenets. If the govt had control over that, we wouldn’t have sky high prices. Here in Michigan I pay $1,450 /month for a 1400 sq ft home. Rental properties out here are charging $2,000+ for 600 sq ft. The properties are generally all falling apart too, and the govt doesn’t interfere. We could have nice things, and force landlords to provide nice homes, but there’s no govt interference.

@@robatkins Your wrong there. Civil Code Section 1947.12, was supposed to disallow landlords from raising rent more than 10% total or 5% plus the percentage change in the cost of living (whichever is lower - over a 12-month period). This was passed in 2020, but Cali didn't enforce it.

Happening Right now in the Paradise state of California. Corporate Owned Rental Property Landlords are Heartless and place leasing agents/managers on the front line to carry out their dastardly deeds. Even if a tenant is demonstrated consistent, on time rental payments and have been a good tenant the goal is to remove tenants with lower rent payments out in order to garner tenants that pay rents at the current market rate. Renters [even the best] are nickel and dimed for everything that once was a part of the rental payment. Corporate Apartment Property Ownersenters now REQUIRE tenants to PAY for the following: *Paying the cost of a Credit Check for each rental property application *1 Parking space and/or small storage room *Renter's Insurance *Key for the laundry room *Pet fees *Keys for dog park/exercise room

Veronica definitely lives in Orlando, Florida. She needs to find a room for rent in a shared house. Or a backyard cottage at a house. Most of us here make under $30k, and studio, or one bedroom apartments that are over 50 years old, want $2k or more a month. We make $2k a month. So there's roommates in there, where there's no room for one. It's bad here. Most of us are one paycheck from homelessness. It's too expensive, but if minimum wage goes up a dollar, all of the bills go up by $50 each, so you end up having less money. What are you supposed to do? The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. 🤷‍♀️
