Sure, accents may have worked, kinda, in Vikings. But series like The Borgias and Medici, both about Italian history, were fine without accents too.

I can tell from the trailer this is just another one of those politically correct rewritings of history, fully of empowered feminists, rich and wealthy black people, and probably lots of homosexuality.... it's very dangerous rewriting history for ideological purposes, because people will start to believe the lies. The 17th century was completely unwoke... I can assure you. Do you know what would be really shocking in 2023? If a historical drama refrained from rewriting history through the lenses of woke ideology.....

It wasn't cancelled. The producers of the show were Canal Plus and BBC. They only ever intended to make 3 series. It was hugely expensive to make.

I love this series. The costumes, mannerisms and atmosphere are accurate. Yes, there are sexual scenes but it doesn't take over the story. It should have continued forward. The story line is suspenseful and leads me to know more.

Edited: I could not get past the first three episodes that was not what I signed up for. It was nothing like the show Reign or any of the other shows that were similar to the Reign. When I saw the same actor of Mordred from BBC's Merlin show, I knew he'd be sort of the same figure in Versailles.....I mean if you remember the Man in the Iron Mask...it was Philippe, the twin brother of Louis XIV who became the "better King"....... Louis XIV is supposedly the French King Arthur.....and Philippe is the Mordred in his life....always questioning and looking out for his life but also at the same time grows to dislike him.....
