Thank you so much for this. As a coach and trainer that trains mostly inner city athletes I end up not charging a lot of them because I know the money just isn’t in the household. Buying equipment gets so, so expensive. Videos like this make doing what I do possible!

the fix to get every side of the box supported by 2 sides is so perfect, thanks

Nice job on improving Version 1. If you want to make your box even more stable you can do so by "Jigsaw" connecting all of the sides so that all sides of your box are supported on 4 sides. This does though take considerable more work to do and you will need to venture into precision cuts, either with a Jigsaw or a Circular Saw. I have just finished my box using a mini Circular Saw for the cutouts.

Great idea to reinforce the box this way. You could also just make version #1, then glue some 1 inch wide offcut strips to the inside so that both ends of the offcut strip touch either 'screw-supported' panel. Would take around 2 to 3 strips per panel for plenty of support. Add some short screws to hold while the glue sets.

I don’t recall exactly what paid, thinking around $40-$50. But the box came out great and we use it often. Very sturdy. I could’ve made my cuts slightly more precise, but even so there have been no issues

Be good to show which boards are what sides ie end board 24x28 etc and also show what goes 1st 2nd etc. You just build the box w/o what sides go next.

Great improvement! Hm.. is the cut sheet off? The purple panels (I’m assuming the sides of the box, with the handles), look wider than tall, yet by your dimensions (20”) they should look taller than wide. Unless the 20” marking between the #1 and #2 cut is really 22.5, since the total width should add up to 96. Or maybe I’m missing something?
@BreakItYourself
@BreakItYourself 3 жыл бұрын
Good eye. The written dimensions are correct BUT the purple rectangles should be rotated 90 degrees each. 20” between 1 and 2 is correct. I’ll update the google doc tomorrow.

@@BreakItYourself - That’d be great. Last thing we want is someone going to Home Depot and coming home with the wrong cuts 😳. Tip: use a consistent convention whenever writing down dimensions. I believe it’s width x height x depth, and starting first from a reference of identifying which is the front of the item.

Great video!! I love that you improved upon v1. When making the handles, would you recommend making them before glueing and screwing the box shut?
@BreakItYourself
@BreakItYourself 3 жыл бұрын
That would probably be easier if you have a work surface and can clamp the work pieces. The only reason I didn't do that is because I thought it would be easier to make the handles once assembled for people without work benches. but getting the scraps out was annoying. Didn't take but 2 minutes but you'd still get a better result adding handles ahead of time.

It IS nice to build things yourself. But since this video was made, 3/4" cheapie plywood is costing $ 45 to $ 50 per sheet. Plus, if you don't have all the tools and expertise to cut, glue and screw then this 23 minute video will take about three days to construct a box for an average person. OR, you can buy on Amazon a precut and predrilled box for around $ 90 to $ 95 and assemble it yourself in an hour or less. I see the Garage Fit box has interlocking puzzle joints as does the Amazon Basics box for added strength and support.
@RookieMistakeYT
@RookieMistakeYT 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Prices are insanely ridiculous right now. But I suggest going to a local lumber store. IF they have any stock or have some left over, imperfect lumber they’d probably sell it to you for a lower price. Also if it takes the average person three days to build this then they must have went through 4th grade quite a few times. This is some wood panels, wood glue, and screws with clear visual instructions. Unless you were the kid in the corner eating the glue there’s no way you can’t knock out this project a half day to a day at most.

@@BreakItYourself Would MDF work? I'm seeing $60 for plywood too, $40 for MDF.
@RookieMistakeYT
@RookieMistakeYT 2 жыл бұрын
@@boomstick900 I wouldn’t recommend it for this build/instructions. MAYBE something with a different blueprint and more support. Even then it’d be iffy. Let’s go over why: MDF weighs more than plywood. This can be a major issue if you’ll need to lift, hold, or clamp panels in place or want to move your box around from place to place, turn it, etc. When it comes to strength, plywood is the winner. MDF is a softer material than plywood and tends to sag or split under pressure. That’s why it’s important to reinforce it if you’re going to using it to build anything that’s gonna bear weight. Plywood also has more flex than MDF, so you can gently bend it to create curves; plus, plywood won’t expand, contract, or warp, even under temperature extremes. Lastly, Screws anchor better in plywood. Because it’s soft, MDF doesn’t anchor screws very well.
