I understand your reason for cutting out a small hole under the gear and it makes sense to SOME degree. I get that it enables loose debris to fall out. I understand makes sense. What i do not understand is after cutting out the hole the gear is totally exposed to sucking up the debris and grinding it while the RC is running through all sorts of terrain. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance?
@larrys42274 жыл бұрын
The hole simply doesn't allow debris to get in. Any that does gets pushed right back out. Without it, the buckets of sand and dirt that get in there just grinds the gears to death. Try it ... You can always fill it back in easily with some epoxy. But you won't ... You'll come back here and thank me for the best mod on the the 3s/4s line. 👍😎😁

10:55 Do you also seal under the spur gear with 3M or just the cutout?
@larrys42274 жыл бұрын
I've never used any kind of sealant or grease around the mount, or spur. Just the cutout. It really makes a big difference of getting sand and fine particles out of that area.
@wescat24 жыл бұрын
@@larrys4227 Thanks. Have you had any issue anything getting up in the cutout by accident?
@thatbig14 жыл бұрын
I was thinking 2mm speaker foam gasket would do the job well to fit as a sealing ring around the bottom rolls of that are cheap
@larrys42274 жыл бұрын
A good question, that alot of people ask. I have NEVER had anything get caught through the cutout into the spur. RC race cars all have this slot and its to allow clearance and anything that gets thrown onto the chassis has a way of escaping without chewing up the spur. All of the Arrma 6S and bigger cars have it as well. I don't know why they don't do it with the 3S lineup. Your safe and no worries..
@larrys42274 жыл бұрын
I suppose you can do that. I like the slot. Once its cut, I never have to mess with that area again.

Hmm... I am definitely going to do the chassis mod underneath the power-pack on both my Big Rock V3 and Typhoon 3S V3 as after every run I am pulling the power-pack off just to clean underneath it and sometimes it can be a real bear to get it to slide out of the chassis because so much debris is underneath it..

Is there anyway u can measure where the cut out is? I don't see how you can tell where to cut lol.
@larrys42274 жыл бұрын
You can measure from a spot on the motor module to find the rough distance. Then transpose that to the chassis. I always drill a single hole and remount the module. Looking through the hole you should be able to see were the spur gear is and if your off at all. It doesn't have to be perfect. Measure twice ... Drill once. 😉

@@rcuintheshed6981 .... The only time I had real problems with gravel getting inside the chassis was when running the Senton. The wheels are tucked under the body and they would throw all that stuff inside and cause problems. I made a cover out of window screen and velcro that cured 95% of the problem. You could do that too. I really haven't had trouble with that on the BR, Granite or Kraton, but I don't really run in gravel or rocky areas.

Can you run this on a 3S Deans battery? Thanks
@larrys42274 жыл бұрын
I'm going to assume your talking about the connector. Deans connectors are rated for 2S max. They have a high resistance to letting the power flow and will get hot ... possibly melt or catch fire. Recommend upgrading to XT90, EC5/IC5. IC5 is what the truck comes with. Don't use an adapter.
@rcast37634 жыл бұрын
@@larrys4227 yes, i was referring to the connector. Currently, i have a 2S battery and using an adapter. Thanks for the advice, ill get an EC5/IC5 if im going to get a 3s. Cheers

Unless your trying to make a boat out of it, I would look elsewhere for the problem. Bent motor mount, mesh too tight. Did you slot the chassis? Harsh environment might do it too.

If you cut a whole in the chassis to expose the gear, you're then constantly exposing it to the stuff you ring driving over? Aka dirt and mud and stuff how would that slot help? Lol

No debris will get up inside through the whole. Look at all 1/8 scale nitro race cars ... Look at the Arrma 1/8 line ... They all have a slot. Try it .... you can always fill it later ... but you won't. You'll thank me ... 😁👍
