The open nature of the sound produced by the B200 is so much more accomplished than the 20. In the compressed audio one gets from a KZbin video such can sound treble heavy. But, in reality, when processed through a DAC, you suddenly notice that the 20 is lacking clarity and space by comparison. It's a lot more money. But, one's a PA speaker. The other is meant for proper home audio.

Bg20 is a great speaker driver. The B200 might be a tad better but remember it's almost 10 times the cost! The BG20 is one of the few affordable good sounding big full ranges, and unlike the B200 it can even sound alright in a sealed bookshelf speaker. I hope they will produce it for another 30 years. Just by looking at it, you can tell it's not just a random PA speaker, which usually have small magnets and stiff paper surrounds, i.e. made for infinite baffle (ceilings).

I was blown away by the BG 20, until the slow jazz track started around 6:00, I realized the BG20 has zero low frequencies, and rolled off high frequencies, hmmm might be good in a three way setup as a mid.

Hmmm interesting home many people prefer the paper cup sound of the BG 20. By this video the sound is not even close. The BG20 sounds literally like paper cup and very splashy. With proper filter the B 200 will sound like a speaker in comparison to a smartphone sound. The B 200 has also much better high frequencies extension. It just shows to each his own. The 200 is a lot better by far. With the 20, get rid of the whizzer cone, cut a 1 cm diameter hole in the dust cap (center). Then cut out a piece of (coffee can seal) foil into a skinny diamond shape (the size of a grain of rice). With PVA, glue one end of the foil to the top of the hole in the dust cap, it hangs down only glued one end (and let it dry). Not finished yet, it would be better than the 200 (if you also do this): Scribe a scribe line around the cone in a circle (mid way from center to edge). Then it will sound better than the 200. Until you do it to the 200 (but going WAY easier on scribe line). On the 20, you will have to make the scribe line deeper. If it then sounds dead, wet the scribe line with a damp cloth and let dry (do it anyway for the best sound).

@@wellroundedsound2422 Thanks for your response. I did it with tweeters on my 2-way (time aligned) coaxials I made and I'm so addicted to listening to them. I keep hearing voices in my room and it scares the shit out of me, but the voices are from my speakers. When you got a spare half hour you can watch how you can make the exact same speakers and you can get frightened by voices "in your room". Read the description for all the details (but circuit diagram of crossover is in the video only). In this video link below you get everything (to the last mm) on how to make them for about $300. You are just being fooled by the BG having less treble. More treble doesn't mean better sound. Your ears get used to it and you can actually pick out more detail if treble isn't exaggerated. Nonetheless, you could always turn up the treble on your receiver/amp (unless you have one of those phool amps without tone controls). Also I think those speakers aren't being run with a notch filter, which is useful to attenuate the midrange of the BG.

The B200 plays in more detail, but it's noticeable on the video. In a room by ear, this is less noticeable. Even it seems that b200 has less bass. Soon I'll be doing acoustics with B200 SOLO100

i see. i guess they cut cost by sacrificing volume, the BG20 is less efficient from the datasheet at least, is there a volumedrop between the two? i am thinking about building a cab with using two BG20 in parallel isobaric enclosure and adding a tweeter.

I think with a bit of EQ the BG 20 can smooth out the mids a little as it sounds a little too forward in the rock track, and maybe a slight treble boost with EQ, great budget driver.

@@Justwantahover i know both drivers (did some projects with both drivers). The B200 has no bass, the BG20 has a very fast, punchy bass. The BG20 has literally no hights above 5kHz, the B200 could work without a tweeter but has a very small sweet spot. I recommend a small tweeter to the BG20 above 3-5kHz. In my opinion the BG20 is a real bargain. The B200 is to expensive as a middletone driver and with that dimensions problems with constant directivity. But don’t get me wrong: The quality of sound of the B200 is in middle-tone is an experience itself (very detailed, dynamic, clear, fast).
