@shannonpincombe8485 Жыл бұрын
Lockett averaged 15.6 games per season across 19 seasons and was rarely fully fit due to, in his words, "being over my best playing weight" for most of his career. Extra kilos puts pressure on joints especially in a high speed contact sport such as Aussie Rules. Jason Dunstall averaged 19.21 games per season over 14 seasons. His reliability and lack of serious injury, barring a knee reco late in his career(1997) meant he was more valuable to his team. Also, Jason gave away lots of goals to teammates....Tony, being supremely selfish, did not. Also, Jason was never paid a massive percentage of Hawthorns salary cap....Tony was paid far more than anyone else at St Kilda, a large chunk of their total player payments and robbed the team of bargaining money come trade time to secure the talent they needed. In fact some St Kilda players retained the services of lawyers to force St Kilda to pay their wages while Tony was paid on the regular. St Kilda could've been a top tier club with on field success but Tony wanted the biggest slice of the pie...obviously. 😅 One more thing...both of these two are better FFs than Gary Ablett in my eyes. Ablett was a damn good footballer but he too was selfish and didn't even know his teammates names. A solo player in a team sport. He should have played tennis or golf.

I'll need at least an hour of highlights from each player before I can make my mind up. And then I STILL won't tell you because it's a ploy to get to watch lots of footage of two of the greatest full forwards of all time. Heh... I'm going with Dunstall because I'm a Hawks fan and he did win multiple premierships. However, I'll still watch as much footage of Tony Lockett as you care to throw at me.

Hate to think how many Dunstall WOULD of kicked if he didn't fracture his skull in 1990, do his knee twice and then have a broken collar bone (when in that season in 98 he had kicked 56 goals in 7 games) Something he doesn't seem to get credit for was how many he dished off as well. These blokes are legends, kids today don't know WHAT they missed out on. We have Chief, Plugger, Ablett Sr and Modra putting out bags for us every week!!

Charlie Wolfe I mean the quality of footy. I agree skills are better now, but I hate seeing such defensive footy, when these players played in times when a game with scores 130-120 wasn't at all unusual
@johntoth12647 жыл бұрын
The speed is better not the quality. In the eighties and early nineties teams didn't need a list that was 40 athletes. Those few with a bit of extra skill but maybe not the pace get left behind more and more. Not saying todays footy is worse. It had to go this way. An overweight Jarman could win you a Granny 20 years ago. Stuart Dew will probably be the last tubby player to play in a granny. You never know one might come along

@@blazer7731correct. The game back then focused a lot on what each individual could bring to the team. These days it's mainly who is the best athlete. Hence why we don't get people who can kick like plugger or Dunstall anymore, because the league would see them as being a one truck pony. As a young 26 year old blues man I watch these old highlights all the time, what a bloody game!

It makes me feel sick in the stomach seeing Lockett in that imposter buy a team swanets jersey!!! It should never have happened it was almost more upsetting than the new that ej whiten had passed away . If only the media had left him alone and not infuriated the great man he would have kicked more than 1300 goals and would have been a one team immortal. Ps Lockett will go down as the greatest player to ever play the great game👌

@@simonettacarsonelli Ablett Senior was the best footballer that I saw. Out of all the players I watched, he was the one I enjoyed watching the most even though he torched my team (Essendon) so many times. You just had to shake your head at times at how unbelievable he was. He was the one I felt that could do anything at any moment & often did. He could play a variety of positions, but to play at full forward in your mid 30s & kick 120+ goals in about 18 games is phenomenal, I just don't think we will ever see a player like that again unfortunately. And oh yeah, his son could play a bit too hehe - best midfielder that I've seen in the game.
