DJI Action 5 Pro vs Action 4 vs Action 3! Worth Upgrading?

Thank you !! I watched like 15 testing videos, abd nobody is talking about the clouds ! On the 5 they either looks like total sh** or you can BARELY see them.

The Action 4 has the best image quality, higher video bitrate and more natural color and HDR than the 5. Which is why I just bought the 4 instead on Black Friday special. Even in the photo of the leaf you can see how much clearer the leaf, the asphalt and the grass is. The 5 has a muddier image. All action cameras suck at night. The only thing I wish the 4 had is the OLED display and being able to connect two DJI Mic 2 mics at the same time.

@@SergeyVikultsev In my opinion, DJI kind of screwed themselves with this camera. They stuffed a lot of features into this camera like depth/altitude meter and they want it all to work reliably without overheating at the expense of image quality with a lower bitrate than the DJI Action 4. The DJI Action 5 pro has some fake processing going on that I can't stand. I believe DJI tried to squeeze everything they could out of this sensor with bad software image rendition. It's like taking tone curves in Light Room and making everything look worse especially with the HDR that you cannot turn off. If I was stuck with the Action 5 I would shoot in D-Log only. I care about image quality and accurate colors over everything else.

This is true. I have Action 5 and the image is worse than Action 4 and Gopro because of aggressive HDR processing. The footage in all color profiles look unnatural and bad.

Totally agree, I was using the 3 and then bought the 5 and was so disappointed with the picture quality I went and bought the 4 on sale black Friday and it has a much more natural picture. DJI have finally acknowledged this in the user forum and say the picture quality will be optimised in an upcoming firmware update, but whether or not that means it will be just tweaked or if we will get a new non HDR setting, is anyone's guess.

I decided to go for the Action 5. The Action 4 is listed here for €227, while the Action 5 is €312 with a discount, making the difference €86. For that price difference, the upgrade is worth it because the Action 5 offers better technology, improved features like enhanced image quality and stabilization, and longer support for updates.

If buying your first, I'd get an Action 5 -- but no way I would upgrade a 3 or 4. I have 3 Action 4s and like it that everything works and looks the same. Cheers.

The Action 4 actually looks the best. If you need better dynamic range get the Pocket 3 because it has a much bigger sensor.

I got action 3 thinking should i upgrade to action 5. from looking at the video. not much difference as I hardly use it anyway. Alot of the new features I dont need.

Hi! Great review! I have the OA3 but got water damage. I was thinking of replacing it with the same OA3 given I was happy with it and its a great price right now. Would you recommend that considering its a much older model or should i update to 4 or 5? I primarily use it for travel several times a year and snorkeling. Thats about it. Basic user for now. Thanks for any insight.

Pozbyłem się Action 4 i to był błąd , chociaż Action 5 ma sporo wniesione dobrego z tego co mówisz to jednak obraz jest przekombinowany na automatycznym ustawieniu w 4 jest bardziej naturalny i nie są one identyczne rozmiarem a tym się sugerowałem i zakupiłem klatkę metalową od OA 4 i piątka nie wejdzie jest minimalnie większa , przez to że obrazek z Dji OA 5 jest gorszy od Dji OA 4 szybko się jej pozbyłem , aczkolwiek jeżeli zostanie naprawiona aktualizacjami wrócę do niej

I'm actually more excited for the osmo pocket 4 I'm really looking forward to improv the video quality and water resistance I don't know when are they going to release it

Pocket 1 was released in December 2018, Pocket 2 in November 2020, Pocket 3 in November 2023. It was a big upgrade from 2 to 3. Apart from water resistance and other minor improvements, there's not much to push it higher technologically, which is why this version will be on the market rather longer. I would expect Pocket 4 a year from now at the earliest, but probably by the end of 2026.

Nice video, thank you! I prefer the Action 4. I make make MotoX videos and because I'm constantly changing direction in relation to the sun the Action 5 has to much drift in the white balance causing the image to look blown out, good, and really good all in the same video.The Action 4 is far more consistent and I agree about the clouds. The Action 5 is not good with clouds and the HDR effect can be really annoying. I rarely do anything in low light so that's not a selling point for me. The Action 5 normal color profile is terrible. Save some money and buy the Action 4 and then buy the DJI mic 2 or the mini mic, both sound great.

Action 5 internal memory is 48GB not 64GB. I hope it doesn't bothers you for such a small mistake on a great video. 😅😅

Its 64gb. it became 47.8GB because of the software for the osmo action. DJI stated this. Its like phones nowadays. when it says 128gb, you have at least 118GB because of the operating system
