I just love how happy Stephen is when Trevor starts singing. I mean if you think about it, Stephen is basically a linguistics expert, and has travelled the world, writing books and giving talks all about the history and evolution and extinction of language. Language is his JAM. So to hear one which is that old, which he'd be unlikely to hear unless he went on a VERY long trip - he's in heaven. Sandi, on the other hand, has just decided that there are more seductive languages than French.

Many years ago, as a lawyer, I acted for a former WW2Fighter Pilot, (his daughter was a good friend) he was applying for a pension as a disabled serviceman. He told me that while on “Operations” he drank at least a minimum of a bottle of Vodka or Whisky a day, often 2 or more depending on the operation. He described 2 “missions” for which he had been decorated. It turned out, that alcoholism was a recognised war injury for pilots, he got his pension with no problems!

Working in a laser optics lab for safety we have a small shielding block to put in front of the laser emitter. This is to prevent someone being accidently blinded while working on the mounting hardware (which is often because it is horrible hardware) if something happens and the laser is turned on by the monitor & control system. Therefore, on the fine motor mount ('on a lazy laser raiser') we have the block to stop the laser beam ('lies the laser ray eraser'). There is your context!

An Irish mate of mine would drink phenomenal amounts of Guinness. On his 31st Birthday, he drank 31 pints over the course of a day and still walked out - albeit with a pronounced list. Some months later he left the pub and crossed an unlit A road. He was hit by a Mk1 Land-rover doing over 50 mph. The land-rover was an insurance write-off, but he survived with no broken bones - just a ruptured spleen. We visited him in hospital a day or later, and left him a Nintendo game to pass the time. He laughed until he pulled his stitches, and the nurse threw us out. The game? "Crash dummies"!

51:31 she’s actually correct I think. iirc Kangaroos, like the western reds, can halt the development of the zygote for a year or so. I remember it being called diapause or similar. It’s an adaptation to drought and irregular wet periods. And when there are good conditions the zygote kicks back into gear and starts developing to take advantage the extra feed that will grow.

One of the more clever sobriety tests I've seen on cop videos is to ask the presumably inebriated person to say the alphabet from F to T, and then ask them to count backwards from 68 to 50. They can usually do the first part correctly, but when they start counting backwards it'll be 68 ... 59 G H. Think about the syllables involved there. First step - from F to T increasing. Second step - counting down to FifTy nine and then if you're not paying attention you start with the alphabet again.
