It's taken me a while to get this one uploaded but it's here at last. My full review of Vert Code Elite, not only the 8 phases I completed but the four phases I didn't manage to do.
I'm always hesitant to recommend a purchase in case you don't get the same value out of it that I did, but Vert Code Elite Phase 1 is probably the best value for money I've found. There are decent free jump programs but what Paul Fabritz does with Vert Code Elite is on a whole different level. If you want a taste of the brains behind the program then definitely check out his jumps podcast on his KZbin channel.

You may want to incorporate jump technique into all of your warmups. Project Pure Athlete does a good job highlighting this and iirc, Vert Code also includes this in some phases. But if you’re not an athlete constantly jumping for your sport, it’s easy to have the wrong impression of proper jump technique. But incorporating push plants, 30% effort jumps, and things of that nature will help your body “remember” the technique at full speed. Just like how you’re warming up your body before you jump, what better way to warm up than by practicing the movement you are trying to achieve? And of course lower the intensity. It’s just like weightlifting. You don’t go in and start doing one rep maxes. You warm up with lighter weight to “grease the groove” of the movement you want to accomplish
@JamesMartinTan
@JamesMartinTan 3 жыл бұрын
And I only say this because even you have noticed the deficiencies in your jump technique. So if it’s something you’re not currently doing, it might be beneficial to incorporate!

This is a nice review. I am glad you were self aware of your jumping technique. I am currently waiting to begin phase 7 of VCE. I had to take a month off and re-do Phase 1 Building the Base because of knee, hip & ankle pain. Overall, I believe I am just at a point where I am slowly gaining vertical gains & need to be more patient. I do wish this had a personalized online coaching and something to adjust the schedule. Thanks for your insight.

Do you also think I should get my jump mechanics down before getting on the program? I see that there is a lot of jump technique practise already in the program, so I don´t see a reason for it, but he did suggest doing so.

@@rometlempu4839 If you do Vert Code BodyWeight Paul does a great job of explaining and demonstrating proper jump technique. Its built into the program. Do you play basketball? If you do regularly or previously, then I would recommend just starting with the program. If you are new to basketball and or jumping, I'd suggest maybe doing 2-3 weeks of jump mechanics then going into the program. Hope this helps.

@@evanmiller9350 I've been doing strength training and playing basketball on the side a bit for a while but I am new to plyometrics and my jumping form is not great. Your advice is probably good, but I kind of just want to get started with vert code elite because I've been doing strength training. I'm sure Paul does a good job explaining jump technique in the elite as well right? And I've heard that he basically starts at 0, so I want to trust that I won't have many issues, as long as I dedicate myself to learning jump technique during the program. What do you think?

@@rometlempu4839 You'll be fine starting with Vert Code Elite. I am 8 months in and he definitely starts from 0. He does a great job explaining jump technique in Vert Code Elite as well. FYI I do not work for him lol. You'll be good. Let me know how it goes.

@@evanmiller9350 alright, thanks for the tips. I probably wont remember to let you know but maybe I will. I think I'll miss a week here and there though, because I will be having basketball camps and stuff. I will be able to do phase 1 fully. Have you missed some weeks too and has it been fine?

Great review- thinking of purchasing. Question- is there any hypertrophy based or upper body work in program? While not specifically basketball jump related, a certain amount of body mass is important for hoops. Or is there room to sprinkle some of my own in throughout program?
@9to5strength
@9to5strength 10 ай бұрын
Cheers, there are some exercises that indirectly hit the upper body (med ball toss, some of the core work) but nothing substantial. I don't want to misquote him but I feel like he addressed it somewhere and said it wasn't the focus, so yes you definitely have room to add stuff in.

I'm trying to really improve my skills, since "vert code" is 5 days a week I feel like my body won't have enough fuel to also make room for my basketball skill work. How long and how intense are the workouts each day?
@9to5strength
@9to5strength 2 жыл бұрын
He offers a "minimum effective dose" where you only do the most important exercises that day to allow you to do basketball practice as well. I can't say how tough that is but having done the full program I could probably have done an extra 60-90 mins of skill training per week on top.

you need to increase your strength to weight ratio(your squat), after that focus on jumping, others plyo, but no weightlifting. After hit pr/pb on your vertical, focus increase your strength again, hope this work.

How long did the workouts generally take? I won't have all that much of extra time to do the workouts during school, so I'm curios.
@9to5strength
@9to5strength 3 жыл бұрын
Including warm up it was generally 90 minutes, but if you follow his "minimum effective dose" advice and only do the key exercises you could potentially trim that to 60 mins

@@9to5strength thanks for the reply. One other thing, how many extra foot drills did you feel that you need or is there maybe a guide telling you how many you should do? I feel like that will be quite time consuming if I want to do those.

@@rometlempu4839 if u not ready to invest the time don’t do it, just do VCB. VCE is for advanced Athletes with I would say at least months of experience in athletic oriented Plyometrics and weight training that also want to spend the time to learn a lot about Sport science getting their knowledge to the next level whilst making physical improvements.
