I LOVE how you guys use a Hot Rod Deville to do the demos for this. THANK YOU for using that amp for your Steel String Videos. I often find people using the Hot Rod Deluxe, but not the Deville, I'm not knocking the Deluxe, but come on, 2x12 for the Win!! I think the HRdv is a great amp that if you know what your doing, you can get it to sound similar to many other classic Fender amps, without a ton of work, especially with the *right* pedals. I JUST bought a Hot Rod Deville, AND I JUST bought a Vertex Steel String MkII as well. Super excited. I got tired of chasing the SRV (and similar) tones through my Modelers or my Marshall or Bugera. That and I didn't want to be limited by the old school Fenders without FX Loops or no Master Volume, so I went with the Hot Rod Deville. I know I needed a *GOOD* set of pedals, and the Steel String MkII was one of the the top of my list. HRDv & SS MkII don't arrived for another week or so, but I'm just buzzing knowing that they're coming. Thanks again for all you do at Vertex.

Vertex, question- whats the difference between the input gain of the pedal- listed as "Output" Vs the "Gain" knob which is technically the output gain. Or what how would you use each type of gain together?
@VertexEffectsInc4 жыл бұрын
"GAIN" is the power amp simulation stage, the "LEVEL" is the input level stage (on the input). This allows you to adjust if you want more of a preamp type overdrive or power amp type overdrive and the clean can blend between them as well so you can get hybrids.

@sweetwater4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Daniel. Since that pedal recreates the sound of an amp, it will work great with other drive pedals. I would start with it as the last drive pedal in your chain and try running any other drive pedals you have into the front of it. Should work great with everything from boosts to fuzz. Would you recommend running this last in your chain or possibly running it in the effect loop? That way it’s always on and turns your amp into a Dumble.
@VertexEffectsInc4 жыл бұрын
I would recommend using it as your last OD pedal with your time based effects following it. OR you can use it into a high quality cab sim like the Two Notes Cab M, or you can use it into the Return of an Effects Loop or an Power Amp pedal, like those made by EHX.

Hi I'm trying to get a question answered. I bought the SSS and dig it a lot so far, but it's unclear what the "Clean" knob is doing. What clean signal is being added? I can't tell because with Clean all the way up, all the SSS dials still effect the signal. It doesn't sound like the Clean, unaffected guitar signal, and it doesn't sound like the bottom row SS section. So what exactly is "Clean" doing? Thanks
@sweetwater4 жыл бұрын
Hey Chad, thanks for your question. Hope you and yours are well. With the "Clean" knob fully clockwise, the output is the SSS "wet" signal. Try dialing in a sound on the pedal totally different compared to your bypassed tone with the knob all the way up. As you roll the "Clean" knob counter-clockwise you introduce your original tone. Not knowing where you have the knobs set with the "supreme" EQ engaged, hard to say what's happening there. Please contact me direct if I'm not understanding your question. @VertexEffectsInc4 жыл бұрын
Chad, Sweetwater nailed it. It's blending in your "SUPREME EQ" in parallel with the dry signal or the Steel String side of the pedal if it's turned ON. It also works synergistically with the "FAT" which simulates the "BIGNESS" of the sound and how much of that you want to be blended in with the original signal. The best way to voice it is to dial the Steel String side as you like it, and then toggle the Supreme switch on/off and adjust the Clean, Fat, and Output to taste.
@ChadWork14 жыл бұрын
@@VertexEffectsInc Thanks guys. I'd still love to see another video (or a text document on the website) getting more granular with this, seep diving into all the controls. I'm able to get good sounds with the pedal, but it also is easy to throw it off and get brittle/glassy. There's a lot going on that I like. It's making my Revv D20 less sterile sounding, and it's helping my Fender Princeton Custom '68 too. Keep up the good work.

@sweetwater3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Michael! Thanks for your message, hope you're well and safe. The pedal is flexible in that you can use it with a traditional amp or direct with a speaker simulation in line after it. It won't sound convincing without it. Vertex has some great videos on their KZbin channel with examples. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! @christopherpayne46104 жыл бұрын
When you say compression is there some kind of compressor in the unit?
@sweetwater4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question, Christopher. Hope you and yours are well and safe. "Amp in a box" pedals like the SSS are designed to emulate the sag of a tube amp. It's an attack characteristic where the envelope catches up to the transient of the initial signal. There's also a harmonic content change that's very hard to emulate in a completely solid state circuit. So there is compression happening, but after the gain and not directly controlled like a compressor you're used to. Please contact me direct if I'm not answering your question completely. Going from 10’s to 12’s does not fatten your tone. A reputable channel did a wonderful comparison and the consensus by the creator and viewers was as the 9’s sounded better than 10’s, 11’s,or 12’s. Fat strings sound muddy compared to 9’s or 10’s and the 9’s have great lows.

I don't hear what the steel string supreme is doing, I guess it adds a subtle compression and EQ but I don't hear it sounds like a twangy SRV texas twang cleans glassy tones. The Steel String needs to make your guitar cleans sound like glassy twang texas SRV tones
@VertexEffectsInc4 жыл бұрын
We're definitely going to do some more dedicated SRV tone tutorials with it, but remember that there were other things going on with SRV with TS pedals and such, and also John Mayer has the same Steel String Singer amp as SRV did but sounds totally different with it, so some of it has to do with the set up, the accessory gear, and the player. It's not all the amplifier.
@waynegram89074 жыл бұрын
@@VertexEffectsInc yes true John Mayer tone is different compared to SRV. The steel string pedal can get those Robin Ford and John Mayer tones but to get those SRV dumble clean tones not sure if the SS pedal is focused and modified for that type of SS setup unless you have to sit there for hours tweaking the knobs to get those SRV texas clean tones from the SS pedal.

I saw and heard Stevie played the real thing in 1985 (he was opening for Dire Strait and I was sitting close enough to read Steel String Singer on his amp but had no clue what it was...) . But one thing I know is that this pedal has nothing to do with what I heard that night...you need to move some air if you want to sound like Stevie and the volume here is way too low and gentle for that!
@drfdwf3924 жыл бұрын
I wish you kept the Dumble Steel String Singer knob style like in the original steel string clean drive and the MK2. Now it just looks like every other pedal. That unique knob style on the previous pedals was really cool. It was like a visual symbol oh yeah, this is a dumble SSS in a box. But now it just looks generic. Mason / Vertex, please release a version with the Dumble SSS style knobs. Thanks.

We would if we could, but you can't fit three in a row or six in a cluster like we have here without going bigger in the enclosure size. I didn't want to make a bigger pedal. Hopefully TONE is still the #1 goal in our pedal purchases. I think if that's your standard it will deliver in spades!!!
