I appreciate the knowledge you present in your video. I am a tree climber not a caver. I am always looking into new ways to improve my climbing with gear from different industries. Occasionally I repel off buildings. I’m not so sure this device would work for me and I appreciate your time in making the video

Great review. On Rope1 is a short drive from me to Tennessee. They are great folks indeed and always a pleasure to visit their store.

Your analysis is so close to my own experience. It makes is very easy to trust all your opinions! I used to be too often having to pick between tediously feeding the rope or using using the 2-bar+hyper method on a short frame micro rack. I eventually moved to a Stop and haven't looked back.

Thanks, but you definitely shouldn't trust all of my opinions. I also prefer bobbins for most of the types of caving I do, but the long frame micro would be my second choice.

I switched from a standard rack to a long frame microrack this summer and never looked back!!!

Still happy with it? You trust those locking nuts to stay on with your life? If those nuts fail you’ll drop!

That's why I'll always use a bobbin. Safer to inspect, if the rope is muddy or swollen by humidity, i just make an inverted c instead of the s shape before putting it into the other "brake" carabiner on the main maillon of my harness

I'm exactly 200lb. Which micro rack would you recomend, short frame or long frame, 1 hyper bar or 2?
@Matrix7041 Жыл бұрын
I've seen some cavers using two hyper bars on their micro rack and locking it off by wrapping the rope over the top hyper bar, then the lower, then taking a bight and twisting it before wrapping it over the top bar a second time. This configuration is sort of like the method you showed without a second hyper bar but without feeding the bight through the frame. What are your thoughts on this?

That's how I learned how. I find it's safe and just as fast if a lock off.

Micro-rack for the win.

What do you think about using a DMM Perfect O with a captive bar? It would seem to follow your philosophy on why you like the Omni! All the security of the maillon but quicker
@DerekBristol Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I fully understand the question. If you're asking if a DMM Perfect O is acceptable for attaching a micro-rack to a central connector, then yes... I agree, but you still should do a safety test and guard against the possibility of cross-loading. I'm not sure what this carabiner looks like with a "captive bar" (like the DMM Belaymaster maybe?). In general carabiners are not designed for a multi-axial load. They should only be loaded along the long axis. As long as it's used this way it should be fine.

I had bought a short frame before they sold the long frame and ended up having to put SS spacers between the first and second bars to even have it move on 11mm rope.
