I was browsing through KZbin and came across this review, which I like very much... I have the original Verum 1 Mk1, which I purchased in 2019. I have had no issues with it and I am still using it today with a modded 4.4mm trrs cable. Below are my findings as follows: Bass is very full and deep-reaching and is one of those very well controlled bass which has good body and extension. Verum 1 bass is the kind of bass that reaches so low you forget this is a 350$ headphone. This is a properly tuned Planar magnetic headphone and the beautiful part is that it isn't too far forward or too much in your face so the bass doesn't drown out the rest of the music. Midrange is very special in terms of tunin. There are some large differences between the mids and bass. The Verum 1 Mk1 seems more even with the peak in the upper midrange / treble being tuned in such a way that Verum 1 Mk1 sounds more open. Treble of Verum 1 sounds mostly smooth and grain-free listening with just enough sparkle. The smoothness is clean and relaxing. They are mostly laid back, so you can't expect a bright tuning. The Verum 1 Mk1 has a bit too little body in the treble, but the grain-free listening is sweet. Of course sound can be very subjective but boy, this headphones sounds excellent... Keep up the great work..

Totally agree. I've got the MkII's and check each and every point you mention. Simply great across the frequency range. I like it as it is w/o eq. Hugely comfortable. At the top of my collection hands down. Before buying I exchanged a couple of messages with Igor and true to his information it took the 8 weeks to produce and ship. Very good. Hope he can continue manufacturing these beautiful fantastic and fantastically sounding pair of cans. I stopped watching Josh's channel. I could cross check his reviews with what I can hear from those units I own and obviously I hear things totally different than he does so his reviews are meaningless to me. Not saying he's wrong, just useless by way of advice to buy as far as I'm concerned.

Just a little PSA... looks like Danny over at GR Research started distributing the Verum 1 MkII stateside. They've been doing their own quality check as they come in before they ship them back out to customers. Might be worth a look. Just keep in mind he does have a considerable wait list going.

I own one, and am super happy with it, but am also wondering how it fares against a more traditional desktop DAC+Amp stack. Especially since the Verum 1 are rumored to scale excellently with the quality of stack used on them.

@@AndrewIllingworth1 I’ve paired my Verum 1 with the iFi Zen DAC v2 (paid £179 at Richer Sounds) and they sound great with either balanced or unbalanced cables. Lot’s of power, clean as a whistle, warm, lush tones. Balanced offers more power on tap, not that you’ll need it.

I'm not an audiophool, by no means. I wanted a review on verums because as a average consumer looking to replace my aging HD559s, the Verums seem cool. I have poor vision so audio quality in games and songs is important to make up for the deficiency, but I'm not into buying tons of equipment because the music I listen to is primarily metal, so for me if they can make "Tornado of souls" by Megadeth sound better than my HD559s, its worth it. Had to sub, this review/takedown was juicy. I think I'll buy the verums what is EQ?

Great review! Good that you called out the disingenuous reviews of some other KZbinrs. I love my Verum 1’s and they are my reference headset with the iFi Zen DAC v2 via balanced output. Besides how good the sound is, i find the headphones extremely comfortable over long periods of listening (especially since i wear eyeglasses and am particularly sensitive to the clamping force.) At this price point the V1’s are unbeatable!

I've used my Verum 1 MK2 with three amplifiers. With two of them I confirm I have to boost the bass, but with a third one this is less of a need. I suspect this depends on the suitability of the headphone amplifier to work with such an unusually low impedance. Regarding the cable, also mine showed false contact issues after few weeks. But it was not on the connectors, or the soldering points, rather along the cable itself. I was planning to buy a 5 metres cable anyway, I got me a custom built one, it costed me almost one third of the cost of the headphones themselves 😅 Consider the provided cable a courtesy cable, and plan to buy a custom made quality cable.

Finally, a newer review about these that has substance, instead of just biased sounding whining. I ordered a pair, so it'll be arriving sometime this year, but it's hard to find out if my DAC/amp (Sound Blaster ZxR) can handle the low impedance well; the headphone amp on it is a TI TPA6120.

I have had good results with the bluesound node-x, the headphone output of the PM-KI Ruby and the headphone output of the Technics SU-7700. Actually this last, a vintage integrated from 1977, is a very serious choice, because it is damn good looking, in silver, has tone controls (remember one tick more for the base) and it sounds fantastic. Vintage amplifier did not have dedicated headphone circuitry, they were simply using the speaker output with say a 300 ohm resistor in series to the headphone output. This kind of setup is well suited for a low impedance headphone like the Verum 1.

11:58 I would say this is a bigger issue. Mine cuts off sound in both left and right, sometimes just left or right. This is with minor hear movement while sitting or laying down listening... Tested multiple cables with it, same problem... The headphones sound great, so Im choosing it live with it. But I can see how this would infuriate other users...

It was between these, the Moondrop Venus and the Edition XS. It sounds like these are a great choice. My question would be, if someone were to need replacement pads are there options other than the original manufacturer? Never know how long the man will continue so it's a legit question I think...

I'm using my Verum with ZMF non perforated leather pads to elevate bass a little bit, it fits perfectly and super easy to replace. All you need just remove metal ring from stock pads and put it to new pads..

I remember his recommendation before I bought my verum 1's version 2. I agree something seemed off! They have become my go to headphones. In fact they are the exact styled version in this video. Voices sound so natural and their sound has nothing that actually draws attention to itself. I agree they aren't bass head headphone but neither am I a bass head. They look like something Davinci designed and headphones Conan uses. They actually now have the verum 2's that I will probably get at some point.

Bought the aeon open x on your recommendation, they don't distort and the tuning is almost there, still a little sibilant to me and I can do with an even darker tilt. Incredible how reluctant "audiophile" brands have been to adopt harman, even the aeon have too much treble yet most youtube review darlings think these are "veiled".

Goog one with the logical threadripping the semitech babble We all have now & then on the big chanels... I agree with U on the ultimate goal of getting as close to the original sound recorded as possible, but would argue that We all should wait for a product that gets things done right out of the box, never requiring any EQ (it's always a matter of some degree of knowledge about the software & keen hearing in order to make things right for an individual pair of ears + specific brain that interprets the incoming signals), because it makes the manufacturers push out good enough things never making them perfect, as the audiomumblers will make them work for themselves with EQ, while the broad public will buy them anyway never knowing the sound butts 🤕Keep up the mean work! 🤗!

0:39 _"... up until ... today ..."_ I use two Verums, an original and an mk 2 (I love both of them), and the original can do (very rarely) such a thing that it almost stops one of its sides. It makes sound but only very subtle sound compared to the normal state. It can be "repaired" by cranking up and down the volume a few times, then it comes alive again. No, it's not an amp thing, when it is "broken" temporarily, you can put it into any amp, until you play that volume up/down thing with it. It's a very rare phenomenon and it appeared only with the original, not with the mk 2. But no complaints. Verum rules.

The Verum's were a big surprise in that overall they compete with the Sundars while being less technical and clean by a meaningful amount. They're fun, engaging and highly enjoyable. I got mine about six months into the war and the build has several small issues and I assume missing the right screws etc, but whatever. Sound great, work flawlessly. Can't wait for the next model he brings out.

Same driver, probably same sound signature. Biggest difference is the headband, and biggest sound-related difference are the thinner angled and perforated lambskin pads vs. the original deeper non-angled full-leather pads, but the differences from that are quite subtle according to measurements done by cskippy (IIRC) from SBAF.

I realize this is an old video. Im just catching up to it today. A friend of mine sent me these to listen to for several months. I thought they sounded fantastic, but I found them to be very heavy and unwieldy on my head. I could not lean back in a chair without them being pushed off of my head. For that reason, I did not buy a pair.

I've seen reviews (less than positive). using poor power sources or basic DAC's. No one can ever tell me something sucks if all you did was plug them into an AVR headphone jack.
