I've got question What about factory OEM oil dipstick measurements? Any needs to manufacture a new scale or OEM will be able to read the amount of the oil level correctly?
@900BRZ4 ай бұрын
The factory dipstick is still usable as is. It’s designed to tell you the “maximum” oil level in the engine based on protecting the oil from reaching too high up in the engine and contacting the crankshaft. We will have more oil volume at the same level at the dipstick, but we’re ultimately just trying to the oil reaching too high in the engine, so that’s not a problem.

The pan looks awesome guys! I will definitely be picking one up when they go into production and I’m looking forward to not having to worry so much about blowing up my engine I will say though that personally I would have preferred to lose a little capacity if it meant I could retain the OE heat shields. I’m not very concerned with overall oil temps increasing, especially since I just installed an oil cooler. I do have a bit of a concern though with the extremely high air barrier temps conducting heat into the pan, potentially coking oil along that wall adjacent to the header. Regardless I still believe in your development and will absolutely be running one of these on my car.

Out of curiousity, why was the extra 1.3L size chosen? I hear that only an extra 0.5-1.0L is needed(unless my understanding is wrong). Could it be possible to make it only 1.0L larger instead and make the pan sit just a tad further away from the exhaust manifold and possibly with the heat shield in place? Maybe you could add some cooling fins while your at it.(although not that necessary since oil coolers exist) Edit: Some cars some pass smog tests if the heat shield is removed. The heat shield assists the cat to heat up to its effective heat range quicker from a cold start. So just consider that when aiming for those that have to comply with CARB, myself included.
@900BRZ4 ай бұрын
> I hear that only an extra 0.5-1.0L is needed People are still experiencing pressure drops with 1.0L overfills. The version that I tested had around 1L of extra capacity and I overfilled and there was still a little room for improvement, so Verus pushed a little harder.
@VerusEngineering4 ай бұрын
We maximized the available area. There is no reason beyond that. If we leave the heat shield in place, we would be taking a massive area out of the pan, unfortunately. The heat shield is huge. Maybe their is a way to cut the heat shield where the pan is at and leave it on the outside to pass CARB and run the pan? Are inspectors taking off the underbody panels too now?

Question number three - does the increased oil volume, would be a negative for oil pump or it doesn't really matter? Would it support OEM stock oil plug & washer?
@900BRZ4 ай бұрын
The goal is to always have oil available to the pump and, in this car, you need better engine oil return (expensive/complicated) or more oil (cheaper/simpler) in order to achieve that. There’s no downside to more oil volume and actually only upsides: with more oil volume you have more thermal mass to handle higher heat.

What makes you guys to continue to develop the pan? To my understanding, I thought that Brian's pan can fit most of the aftermarket headers?
@Pavel_Engines3 ай бұрын
Air gap is a great thermal insulator. Leave the oil pan a two-piece design. A one-piece pan will be a cleaning problem for the inevitable rod knock and bearing debris inside an intricate part. Will be much easier to clean a two-piece pan and guarantee cleanliness to the customer. Eventually, casting a two-piece pan will also be easier than a one-piece pan with internal details. Rubber flaps are successfully used in various applications, introduced by Cosworth to the Subaru world some 15 years ago, and now used by IAG and Torque Solutions in their products.
@VerusEngineering3 ай бұрын
It will always have a removable baffle, but the pan itself will likely be cast in time. Thanks for the feedback!
@AlfredYap3 ай бұрын
It would be nice if it's able to retain the header heat shield while having a bit lesser oil capacity. Because i am a daily driver, most of the time could be in a slow moving heavy traffic or caught in a standstill traffic. A lot of heat generated could quickly get trapped inside engine bay and potentially heating up the oil pan too. Compare to car on the move or in track where airflow will help to dissipate heat as per said air barrier.

So, in the midwest, it's very easy to get 6-8 track days throughout the year just by scheduling them on cooler days, ambient temps between 60-70 degrees. I don't have an oil cooler and my oil temps stay between 255-265. Halfway through the session I'll do a cooldown lap to bring it down to 225-235, and that's been good enough. With the factory heat exchanger, the oil temperature doesn't depend much on the ambient temperature. I had the same 260ish in 50°F ambient and 110°F ambient. I want clearance for the classic Ace 350 headers. Otherwise known as the header with the most area under curve, and the header with the largest primary runners.

Porsche figured it out by adding a very expensive dry sump to their cars. Subaru can't charge $60k+ for their vehicles, so they can't justify developing that.

Agreed, but not all Porsche's have dry sumps... they figured it out other ways. But agreed, the costs are quite different.

It's a shame that Subaru and Toyota don't fix their shit. You guys are doing wiping their asses.

For a street car, the factory pan is quite capable. But for track guys pushing the limits, we'll be there to try to solve some issues!

I don’t understand how the engineers of a multibillion dollar company (in this case, Toyota & Subaru) can’t design a flawless engine (or at least fix the oil starvation issue) but somehow a small group of engineers (Verus Engineering) can? Lol. It’s almost like car manufacturers purposely build flawed cars so they become too problematic/expensive to own for long periods of time (hence forcing you to either spend more money on repairs or upgrading to a newer model). Gone are the days where you could put a million miles on your car without even needing to change the oil (hyperbole).

Different targets, different goals. A multibillion dollar company is looking to cut every cost and make a car for the general public that doesn't take the car on track.
