You're welcome. I'm approaching this series from the viewpoint of when I first started and didn't know diddly squat or where to start. Very basic, and then we can all build on that. Even just the terminology sometimes is confusing to new makers. Welcome, hope you stick around for more.

I’m in the process of getting started so I’m trying to find and try a lot of recipes to see what works best for the type of bomb I’m looking for. I know I want the foam that the slsa produces. But this seems like a great start.

Your explanation of each ingredient and its reaction alone and mixed is AWESOME!! Thank you for going into detail! My question is instead of using Polysorbate 80, could I use the Polysorbate 20? Thats what I have on hand! Again, thank you so much for your explanation and detailed info!
@TheSoapChef2
@TheSoapChef2 Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. The PS80 is used as an emulsifier with the butters/oils mixing w/the water but also so your colorants don’t stick to the side of the tub. Try the PS20 and see how that goes.

You're a great teacher. I've seen other recipes for bath bombs, but I haven't seen anyone else explain what each ingredient does. Question: I want to make fun little bath bombs for my little granddaughter, and I'm thinking of putting a drop or two of water-soluble dye in the middle just to color the water. I don't want the oil. Will a bath bomb hold together without the oil? Can I just use witch hazel to bind it and leave the oil out? Also, if I use water-soluble dye and no oil, do I need the polysorbate 80?
@TheSoapChef2
@TheSoapChef2 6 ай бұрын
I would hesitate to put a drop of water in the middle of the BathBomb only because it may start the chemical reaction of the citric acid and baking soda. As for some type of oil or butter, I would highly suggest it, otherwise, all you have is baking soda and citric acid, which would be extremely harsh on the skin.

Can we use soap or body wash instead of polysorbate?
@TheSoapChef2
@TheSoapChef2 22 күн бұрын
@@aayushishukla8406 polysorbate is needed to solubilize the butters into the water but also because of the lake colorants. If you are using water soluble dyes, they will mix into the water without a solubilizer. However, when there are oils or butters in the water, it’s a slip/fall hazard. Thats why we need the polysorbate.
@LitaJones.
@LitaJones. Жыл бұрын
Hello thank you for this video love it.question what can you use in place of polysorbate??? Thank you
@TheSoapChef2
@TheSoapChef2 Жыл бұрын
You're welcome. The polysorbate is used as an emulsifier to combine water with oil since they don't mix. It also acts as a light cleanser to make clean up of your bath bomb colorants on the tub, a breeze......there should be very little to no residue left on the tub walls. Some people have subbed the PS80 for Red Turkey Oil (sulfated castor oil) however, in my experience, that's way too heavy of an oil and does stick to the sides of the tub.

I've been watching your videos for the last week and just finished one other where you say don't use corn starch? But here you are using it? I've leaned a lot from you and really appreciate your expert advise but now I'm confused.
@TheSoapChef2
@TheSoapChef2 9 ай бұрын
I try really hard to not draw a hard, fast line of what you should, or shouldn’t do because that’s the beauty of creating. I personally do not use cornstarch in my recipe, and would not because it adds no value in my personal opinion. And if you ask 10 other soap makers or bath bomb creators, they will give you 10 different answers. It’s a personal preference, that’s all. In this particular video, I am giving you a bare bones, basic bath bomb recipe that you can Grab Items from your grocery store. Try it and see if it works for you. A lot of makers use cornstarch and they love it. I don’t. Again, personal preference, that’s all.

Can I use polysorbate 20 in my bath bomb instead of 80?
@TheSoapChef2
@TheSoapChef2 Жыл бұрын
We have never tested our bath products using PS20. They are both solubizers. PS80 is used mostly in products that have more of an oil/butter phase, which bath bombs are not. However, the PS80 is what really helps to eliminate the ring around the tub from ingredients, most specifically, the colorants used in the bath product.
