I'm a huge KMFDM fan. I'm also very pro gun regulation reform. I have depression issues. People in my school days 'attempted' to bully me. I've never, ever even considered committing such violence. I help people, help my community, and I give as much as I can. This speaks more to the accessibility of the weapons and the parenting. My parents taught me to stand up for myself and take care of business with my hands. This parent taught their kid to to be a coward, to give in to the power of those that bullied her and to amplify the hate with bullets.

I agree...another fan of their music and back then we had fist fights...our American culture was glorified the gun and our kids go to that as first option. My father had a gun rack in his truck when we we're kids, no one thought of grabbing it and using it as a solution. I think our exposure then taught us to respect it as a tool, not as the one and only solution.

As someone who grew up in small Christian schools, it was very common for parents to place their mentally/emotionally unstable kids in these schools as a last resort. I always had a few kids in my class that were expelled from public school for behavioral issues.

Yes. I’m not Mennonite, or even German, but I went to a private Christian Mennonite HS here in 🇨🇦, and we had quite a few of those last resort kids whose families had the money to pay the tuition. Not sure why though or if it even helped, because out of a grad class of 105, there were 7 girls pregnant by the time Grad day came around, lol. None were last resort kids. That’s what happens when you over shelter your kids. They get a driver’s licence and go off the deep end!

We had a catholic school in town that ended at 8th grade, that's when all the heavy drug users from Catholic school poured into the public Junior High. The girl I had a crush on was one of these deliquents, she did so poorly in public school they had to ship her and her best friend off to the all girl's catholic school out of town, where she bragged about being allowed to help 'get stuff' from the teacher's car where they got high together.

I worked at a school like this in Mexico. The mission of the school was to train Christian leaders of the future, and one of the requirements was that a child should not be forced to attend against his will. Yet, we had them. Mental, emotional, behavioral, disabled...for which teachers were not trained nor equipped to handle. I had 2 troublesome middle school boys who conspired to put my job at risk. They made school hell; the other students begged that they be expelled. Yes, my children also attended a private school for a time in the US, where such children were admitted, several of which were kicked out of public schools. One had seizures in class often and every day.

Yes, Christians feel that they should try to help anyone in need, but often forget that they have normal people to protect too! So they take these problem kids in with good intentions, while endangering the others! Being a Christian myself, I can understand the dilemma, but we all need to wise up! Many of these troubled kids (and adults) need to be locked up. We used to have state run mental hospitals for them, but closed most of them for some bizarre reason! It’s like we now live in a huge insane asylum and the crazies are running the place! We pretend that it’s normal and it’s not! We have come to the place where we even allow these wackos to run the country! (I.E. the last four years! )

I agree the reporting here is a bit clumsy, but they weren't blaming the band or the t-shirt. Rather pointing out that the T-shirt has a major connection (especially for someone her age) to a horrific previous school shooting. It totally sucks for the band that their t-shirts might be used in tribute to those Columbine assholes. Seems like this shooter was into some serious violent/neo-nazi/race war inciting culture, and this t-shirt in her case could have been a red flag that could have clued people into that she was on a dark path.

They’re not blaming the band. They’re saying that it’s an indicator of ideology, which might be true or might not. Obviously, too many people like Led Zeppelin for that to be interesting. Can the same be said for this band, or are they so niche that it actually does point to something suspicious? Either way, it really sucks for this band to be associated with this kind of thing. I’m with you though, guns are a huge problem, and we need to talk seriously about how to do more on that front.

@FenwayCheapSeats The problem is that some regular people will actually blame the band, lyrics or an entire genre in order to have a quick target for their finger pointing. We've seen this time and time again no matter how little sense it actually makes. The Satanic Panic, Rap music, the rise of video games in addition to rock/metal have always been scapegoats for people who don't look deeper. At this point, knowing this history, it does feel like if you mention these things, you can count on people blaming the band after reading headlines or watching a newscaster point this detail out. All of that, no matter how diligent the news may be in appropriately presenting the details.

Switzerland is a model for responsible gun ownership and usage. Shooting clubs are common and popular but as you say, you have to be 18 to own a gun. Switzerland is rated as the most gun-friendly country in the world with some of the most liberal gun laws. And yet in 2019, Switzerland's gun homicide rate was 0.2 per 100,000 people, which is 20 times lower than the United States. In 2022, 11 people were killed by firearms in Switzerland as opposed to 19,000 gun homicides for the US for the same year. We here have lost our minds over firearms. And I'm a Texan and a gun owner (no handguns, no ARs, just hunting rifles and shotguns.)

Precisely! In societies not in a war, self-defense guns have no part in society and are usually heavily illegal, for good reason! This has been a dark increasing trend for around the past 15-20 years, as i've seen myself as a caucasian now middle-aged man, who once loved guns and now loathes self-defense guns, which need to be banned en masse, IMHO. @@kevinskiles2033 Exactly right, Kevin. Codie had it wrong to use the verb "steal". Exactly as you said, children can't "steal" a properly secured gun and then use it to commit crimes like those in this case. For example, if the gun was locked in a gun case or in a gun room, then Natalie couldn't have accessed it directly. Furthermore, if the gun was emptied of ammunition and secured with gun lock, then Natalie couldn't have loaded it or used it, even if she could steal and touch it. Basically, all this stuff almost guarantees that Jeff Rupnow is going to eventually be charged with providing gun access to Natalie. The only ways that won't be true are: (1) Natalie obtained the 9mm handgun used in this shooting from someone besides Jeff Rupnow (which seems HIGHLY unlikely), or (2) Dane County prosecutors fail to do their jobs by failing to charge Jeff Rupnow for somehow providing access to that gun even though that is their responsibility (and I hope that is unlikely because they take their jobs seriously and have respect for the laws of Wisconsin).

What they did to the parents house is awful, totally unnecessary! There was no active threat in the home yet they ripped the door off damaging the wall next to it as well and broke out the windows with flash bangs. Ridiculous. If they were being cooperative, they likely told them they could search. So why did they destroy their house?

Bullying? I think the story here beyond the obvious horrific murder/ suicide, is that this was a young woman in a religious school, which i think is very similar to the shooting in Tennessee . If the father did keep their guns locked up and she found a way to get the gun, it isnt likely he would be held responsible. Ethan Crumblys case was different as he had unfettered access.

I mean honestly in situations like this i dont think the parents should be charged. But when you force your child to keep attending a brainwashing convention then they snap. The T-Shirt makes a statement. The band's lyrics all make a statement. It's an ideology that was planted in her brain. I would guess racism plays a role, but what do i know.

Since the Parkland shooting in February 2018, the March for Our Lives movement and related advocacy efforts have raised approximately $33.1 million, including $13.6 million through the March for Our Lives Foundation and $19.5 million through its Action Fund. These funds have been used to support gun control advocacy, educational campaigns, and lobbying efforts. Key legislative successes directly credited to the group include the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act in Florida (2018), which raised the firearm purchase age to 21, implemented red flag laws, and banned bump stocks; the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (2022), a landmark federal law strengthening background checks and expanding funding for mental health resources; and various state-level red flag laws in states like Colorado and New York. This period has also seen the passage of over 250 gun safety laws at the state level, influenced by March for Our Lives and similar groups. Despite these efforts, since the Parkland tragedy, the United States has witnessed an alarming increase in mass shootings, with estimates exceeding 2,000 incidents as defined by the Gun Violence Archive (four or more victims injured or killed). Mass shootings remain a pervasive issue, underscoring the complex and ongoing challenges related to gun violence in the U.S. The laws you're using to judge Republicans never worked in the first place, it just gave the illusion that Democrats were doing something.

The band, Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, has existed for four decades and sold millions of records, so it would be weird if none of the thousands of shooters or their parents liked the theatrical metal aesthetics of that performance art project. They had nothing to do with the first massacre and I find it impossible to believe they are filled with glee in this case. Murderous monsters are more likely to listen to Parton or Bublé than 80s industrial rock, but I've yet to hear concerned reporters pondering if Dolly's tunes lead to violence.

As it turns out it was connected, but that's not the kind of thing you could make a judgement about beforehand. Maybe if someone directly asked her about the band but unless she straight up admitted to idolizing the columbine shooters it's pretty unlikely anyone would've been able to know that she was going to do this.

The Columbine massacre was a tragedy and there is no doubt possible shooters research Columbine. The thing is if our government isn’t going to make access to guns safer (yes the problem is the gun) then the next best thing is to restrict information about Columbine to the younger generation. I’m not saying we should forget I’m saying if there is a common factor with all these shooters which is (other than access to a gun) it’s information on Columbine, the parents are also a problem if they can’t even secure a gun from their children.
