Habitual drunks and Functioning Alcoholics can do scary things "on autopilot". Can't walk but can drive a car.. can make an espresso coffee.. can mix a long island ice tea (etc).. as long as nothing goes wrong... Can be impressive to watch, but bloody scary. No matter how functional a drunk is, they don't do well with pedestrians :(

As a recovering alcoholic, I personally think there were opportunities after my arrests that I could have talked to a pscyhologist or psycholoanalyst who, at the right time, could have helped me sort through the mountain of falsehoods in my mind and swept them out without the authoritative brute-force mind-rape approach that society normally seems to take which makes the services seem so unappealing even when they would otherwise be helpful. Take an approach of a friend who cares about the well-being of the person suffering and isnt eager to humiliate and these kinds of things can be prevented in the future.
