Man…. If this is someone’s backyard, they are so lucky. If I lived there, it would be hard for me to not sit out there all night in the dead silence with crickets, waiting to hear the spooky, low roar of locos coming from miles down the track.

I used to live in Jefferson, OR, 3 houses away from the main line of the Union Pacific. The line had trains running it an average of 5 to 15 trains in a 24 hour period, some would be slow, some would be faster than they probably should have been in a S-curve. The train crossing for the neighborhood was on the street we were on so we'd get the full train horn and everything. It never bothered me, late at night you could often hear the train horns from Albany (10 or so miles away) and Marion (roughly 5 miles away). The only HUGE downside was that the train crossing I discussed about? That was the ONLY way in or out of the neighborhood, and many times the train would come to a complete stop on the tracks due to some issue down the line. Stopping on a crossing for any of the ones in the town weren't good, but they all had ways of getting around it given they would be stopped anywhere from 10 minutes to sometimes well over an hour; for those in that neighborhood they were stuck. It was a stupid, idiotic and braindead decision to build that neighborhood with no other way in or out, but I'm assuming it had to do with land claims surround it. They should have had a road that connected to it from a neighboring division so you could at least get out of the neighborhood in an emergency. All in all, haven't lived there in years so not my problem.

Yup. Moving along at a pretty good clip there! From the looks of it, in that area the track speed limit is 60 mph and it appears that Tim Mungenast, below, nailed it. That was about 60. Same speed rate and the flat spots on the wheels sounded the same as they do in Dunkirk, NY. Track speed limits in that area are 60. Nice!
