Even more, it turned around and got into a parking spot without ripping it's wings off and/or gouging a huge hole in the island. Imagine what might have happened if it was fully loaded, landing or launching. Good thing it's a game simulation.

No wake, the ship isnt moving. The wingspan would take out the bridge, and a C-17 does not have a tail hook. So in reality, if the pilot were actually lucky enough to hit the deck, the right wing would be severed by the bridge and the aircraft would then spin off the deck into the ocean at near the same speed as touchdown.

The C-17 is a STOL aircraft, but not that short. A runway of at least 3500 feet is preferred for both landing and take off. There is a recorded distance of 2500 feet, but that was all landing conditions optimal.

Yeah, I thought something was hokey when I see the ocean at the base of the carrier structure in the water LIT UP like with a search light. Agree with most of the comments below regarding the fallacy of this - and I spent YEARS in the IC, as an Army Reservist, working with Navy and Air Force folk, so I figure I learned SOMETHING of observational skills. Now, that said, if you want to hook me into watching more: LET ME SEE IT TAKE OFF FROM THE CARRIER!! THEN you might have something there! 😉t😅

VERY good simulation. It took me until after the landing to fully realize that this was just a simulation. There actually have been experimental landings of large aircraft on carriers, so I didn't completely dismiss it at first.

Instead of a simulated C-17 carrier landing you could have shown actual footage of a C-130 landing on the USS Forrestal from October 1963. C-130 serial no. 149798 ("Look Ma, No Hook") still holds the record of the largest plane to ever land on an aircraft carrier: 29 Touch and Goes, 21 Landings and Unassisted Takeoffs.🤔

@@MrRockydee07 - You're talking about a stationary plane with a wingspan of 67 feet, giving it enough clearance from the Island on the USS Hornet and taking off and needing just 70 mph into the wind, compared with plane with a wingspan of almost 170 feet coming in that has a stall speed of 205 mph. And in case you didn't know it, those B-25's didn't land on the carrier, they were hoisted onto it by cranes at the Alameda Naval Air Station just South of Okland.

I think it's BS. A C-17 wouldn't be able to land and take off from an aircraft carrier. In any case, the US Navy has the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey multi-mission, tiltrotor military aircraft with both VTOL and STOL capabilities.

Simulators like this don't count. The C-130 (to be picky, a KC-130 tanker version) ACTUALLY LANDED AND TOOK OFF FROM A CARRIER (USS Forestal) several times during some testing in the early 1960s. C-17 wings are too wide, even if it COULD manage the distance.

If .......IF it was possible, how the hell would they ever get it off. Not long enough for a takeoff with that plane, even with the catapult, which I think would rip itself apart trying to sling something that heavy. Just my opinion. Wasn't in the Navy, never been on an aircraft carrier. I was in the Air Force. Saw lots of C-130s come and go, saw a few C-5As, even saw a couple of Harriers. All were an amazing sight.

C-17 isn't equipped to HAVE arresting gear - and it would probably tear off if they DID try to add it. C-130 testing on the Forestall DID NOT EVEN TRY.

Not even the best thrust reversers could accomplish that. You might get her down, but you'd have to crane her off. Even if you had Jato rockets attached, and to the best of my knowledge the C-17 isn't designed or rated for those. That's if you could even find any. The lack of them is why the Blue Angels stopped doing the Fat Albert Jato takeoff demos. That and the new C-130s can make that climb on their own.
