In an interview with Bobby "Tongs" (one of Dime's closest friends) he mentioned that the Abbotts, especially Dime was very underwhelmed with the entire Damageplan experiment and he (Dime) had made it clear to Bobby that after the tour, they must do everything withing their power to heal the wounds and get Pantera back together again. At least get Phil back. bobby also mentioned that the Abbotts were upset with Rex's behavior and had basically disowned him. Also, in a separate interview, years later, Vinnie mentioned that "People wanted Pantera, not Damageplan. They want Coca-Cola, not Diet Rite..." It seems that in all likelihood, Damageplan was destined to be a one-off collaboration anyway. People were generally lukewarm on it. They respected it, but didn't really dig it all that much. I know one thing for sure, Pantera, as a band, (not the music of course) died along with Dime that night. R.I.P. Dime and Vinnie

No, they said they wanted the Pantera sound, when they started damageplan they purposely sounded different, they didn't want Phil back and they didn't like Rex they wanted the Pantera sound back. Apparently the second damage plan record sounds like Pantera

@@arthurbrown4984 rex had some disgusting bullshit to say about vinnie in his book. funny because brick wall pauls a thousand times cooler than rex will ever be. it pisses me off because vinnie never said "phil did this to my brother" but its clear even though phil didnt mean for any of this, his actions ultimately and unintentionally orchestrated the situation. phil said in an interview 'vinnies scared of me something fierce, fear controls him it always has done. he'll probably be at some tit bar that he owns being fake and superficial' then 2 seconds later plays the victim 'he refuses to see me'... too many kids believe phils some hard as nails tough guy who puts it on bouncers every night. i like phil but ill back vinnie and dime over the other two any fuckin day

Huge Pantera fan here. I grew up in Dallas and was very fortunate to have met Dime and Vince several times. Saw Pantera and Damgeplan multiple times. I can say, there’s nothing like a Pantera show. NOTHING. I’ve seen so many bands in my life (I’m about to turn 40) but nothing compares to those 4 dudes killing live. The Abbotts were great dudes. Here’s a story that I like to share and that I’ve never seen or heard talked about: back in 2002, before it was official that Pantera was done, my brother and I went to see Down at Deep Ellum Live in Dallas, TX. This was when Rex had joined and they were touring for the DOWN II album. It was pretty insane going in. There were fans yelling at Guy Sykes (Pantera’s tour manager who was managing Down at the time) “Dime and Vinnie made you!” and shit like that because they felt betrayed like most of us Pantera fans did when Phil and Rex left. Anyways, we get in and the show starts, about halfway through the set Vinnie and Dime show up in the balcony and people around them were going nuts! After the song Down were performing finishes, the the lights come up and Phil announces that his “Pantera brothers were in the house” and everyone turns around and the place went ballistic! All 4 of the guys in one place! We got hope that the band was gonna get back together! It was awesome! Well, 2 songs go by and Dime and Vinnie take off because they were being mobbed and the show went on. Welp, little did we know that that would be the last time all 4 of them would be in the same place at the same time. Phil continued to dodge them and ignore their calls and the rest was a tragic history. But for that one moment, there was hope and lots of happiness. I always thought it was really cool of them to have showed up even though they were being kicked to the curb by Phil and Rex. I went to the Damageplan CD release party at the Clubhouse and met all the band. When I met Dime he was 3 sheets to the wind and propped up by a tv signing stuff. When I got my chance to speak I thanked him for the music and told him that he and Vinnie were the reason my brother and I picked up instruments. He fist bumped my forehead and gave me the biggest hug. It was one of my favorite moments in my life. I was heartbroken when everything happened, like everyone else. I went to work and my boss told me and I didn’t believe him. He showed me on the computer and I was like naw. So I went outside and opened my phone and had like 50 missed messages and that’s when it set in. I was crushed. Still am. Still in disbelief that someone would do that to him. Years laters I met my wife and she always talked about her cousin from Ohio that liked Pantera so of course when we met that was the first thing we talk about and it turned out that he was at the show. He had to run and hide. Was traumatized from it. It was his first time to see the brothers. I felt horrible for him. Tragically he passed too. He was a musician as well. His name was Tom Hagley. His vids are on KZbin if you care to check him out. He was a great dude. Anyways, that’s all I got. Very long winded but I just thought I’d share it all with someone else. 🤘🏽 PANTERA FOREVER 🤘🏽
