Have you ever worked with Shires or Clydesdales? In the UK they are mainly bred for showing. I used to be head groom for my uncle’s Heavy Horse team driving up to a team of 6 geldings.

Just curious - what was the purpose for extending and widening the heel of one side of the shoe, and then tapping a screw hole into the shoe?

the screw hole is for screw studs they are small studs that you can install in the hoof for riding there are studs for most surfaces

It’s a stud hole. So when horses are working on slippery ground we screw in a stud. It’s like the cleat on a soccer shoe

Nope, there are no nerves there. All they feel is their feet being messed with and worked on. It basically feels like your nails or hair being cut.

Im a lazy farrier. I cold fit most of my shoes. Sometimes I hot seed like I was trained to but clients can care less here in California. They pay more on useless vitamins than a well shod sound horse. Most are lawn ornaments anyway. I would love to come train under you Brits. Ever do clinics?

Because it helps the hoof not grow as long... also it helps prevent abscesses from rocks when you ride on the road. One more reason, because it prevents horses from getting their hooves worn down (AKA Flat footed) 👍
