Very Weird Vacation Vlog: Shout-outs, cats and recent reads

Good to know about Mary Barton. I've heard mixed reviews of her books and I have so many other books lined up to read that I didn't know whether to try to read more Elizabeth Gaskell. I did read North and South and liked it and I'll probably try to read Wives and Daughters sometime even though it wasn't really finished before Elizabeth Gaskell died.

Welcome back! Great haircut and I have to admit I spent most of the vlog time admiring the beautiful quilts! I understand about not buying withdrawn library books. I do buy them when they're $2 and under, and generally for more recent books that I know I want to read but probably don't want to keep. Like recently I purchased Cloud Cuckoo Land and Lessons in Chemistry from a library sale; if I end up loving them I'll donate the library copy back and buy my own copy. I also pick up unusual books that I haven't seen anywhere else, like an older A. A. Milne book of short stories for grown-ups that I picked up recently. I hardly ever keep them; they usually get donated when I'm done.

I’m definitely looking for diamonds in the rough, but library copies are just too rough. I definitely have some used books I got for cheap and if I end up loving them, I will get a nicer copy. I just wish I’d had a little more time to browse - my mother was worried I was going to buy something they had donated! I also wish I had been there at the start of the sale as they had a cool vintage section that was very depleted when I got there. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 💛

Glad you are back in action with us, Kelly! Sorry to hear of that period where you weren't feeling well, but it sounds like overall you were able to enjoy the time of being together with your parents. I liked your reports from the closet (that's an unusual setting! :D no doubt you explained it in a previous video...). That clock is really neat! I have never seen one like that yet, the way it fragments and with "Time in a Bottle" playing. "But there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do once you find them..." so true, so true...

It plays a different song every hour! I don’t like the clock, but my parents absolutely love it. I film in the closet because my family has no idea that I have a KZbin channel! Anyway, I have shown the clock a few times on my channel and people either love it or hate it. 😂 So good to be back! 💛

Oh man, that clock!! I could not have it in my house. Cute kitties! I am so glad you started feeling better, but how awful that you had to go to a clinic. Those are not a fun experience. I am also glad you finished Mary Barton which is definitely not my favorite Gaskell. I think I gave it three stars as well. Thrush Green is a great next read after two so-so books.

My parents tried to give Jason and I a clock like that when we bought our house, but I declined. For two retired people, they are sure obsessed with time! I am thoroughly enjoying Thrush Green. I just haven’t had enough time to read it. 💛

My old tabby Max used to love to fetch. How does “Mary Barton” Compare to “Tess of the D’Urbervilles”? I really liked Tess but I haven’t read Mary Barton. Looking forward to hearing your final thoughts on Lucy Dale& John Eames.

I know! I need to make the Barsetshire video terribly! I guess Mary Barton is not as dark as some of Gaskell’s novels. If you can handle Thomas Hardy, you should be fine with Mary Barton (I haven’t read Tess! Shocking, I know!). Raya apparently used to fetch. Now she just carries a mouse around with her, but neither cat was really up for performing for strangers. I had never heard of cats playing fetch before! Great to hear from you. 💛
