Hey thanks! I was one of those who hated DP needles and only used circulars. After your comments, I bought a set and tried again. I find it very relaxing and enjoy not having to deal with the twisting cord. I think my problem was that I tried them years ago when I first started knitting. My tension was too loose so the needles kept falling out and rolling on the floor. I kept getting ladders also. After using circulars, I’ve learned how to close the gaps. No ladders at all with these new DPs! I bought more of them! Thanks for encouraging me to try again!

Finished this hat for my grandson. Used Worsted. Made a lovely hat with a warm double edge. Perfect for our Canadian winter that started a week ago lol. First time using a provisional cast on and I loved it. My son saw the hat I made for his son and I now have a a joyful list of hat seekers. Thank you Staci.

I am watching you tutorial for about the 20th time. Just because I am very excited about making one. You talk about dpn's. I prefer to use dpn's but I also want to get comfortable with the circular needles. Also, I had cancer about 10 years ago and had some chemo hats that were very itchy, nice soft yarn is very important to me. Thanks for the pattern. Robin

Hi Stacy, I was listening to your podcast and you were talking about the tendonitis one can get from knitting. As a constant knitter I won’t stop knitting to rest. I have found several things that can help if done the instant you notice it coming on. Massage your arms and hands your self using a roller type utensil. if you use the eraser end of a pencil or your finger find the most painful spot and place hard pressure (the most you can stand) press in that one spot and don’t move it until the pain lessens. Then find a new spot and repeat. Soak your arm or entire body in epsom salt. Repeat every day or give up and have a massage work on you. Sometimes it can be up your neck, and shoulder blades. All those muscles are attached. Also stop holding your phone or iPad while you play games. There are many lotions that can help as well, bengay or theraworx relief are two I go to. Lastly, change up the needles your using or sit in a different chair.

Working on second hat and when I reached the last 4 stitches of joining the rib together I discovered the cast on had unraveled down about two or three rows. I cobbled it together and it is satisfactory but I’d love you to tell me what I did wrong. Provisional cast on error? Also, how would I correct the problem of the cast on unravel if it ever happens again? Thanks Staci. Your tutorials are helping me become a much more adventurous knitter.

After watching Knitting Around with Elizabeth Zimmmermann and Meg Swanson, I realized I had been holding the DPNs incorrectly so they were poking me. I haven’t tried using them yet so I hope the experience will be more comfortable. I hope the pattern is still free because I was still recovering from a fall on my left hand and arm in the 4th week after major surgery, when you posted this video. Thankfully, the X-rays didn’t show fractures. It is just severely bruised and has reactivated arthritic pain. 5 weeks later I’m still struggling to do anything with my left arm which has overworked my right hand causing arthritic pain in that hand. In spite of using the Portuguese Knitting method my hands tire quickly. My daughter requested a messy bun slouchy hat for her and a hat for my granddaughter to include a pompom so your pattern would be great.

Thank you Staci. I think I originally watched this almost a year ago and am finally going to use this cuff technique. I will need to learn the crochet chain. I am going to try only knitting the first half of the cuff without ribbing so that I can duplicate stitch a word on that part. But, now that I'm thinking about it I probably need to purl all of those rows so that the knit side shows out when folding it? I am considering doing one row at the fold opposite (so that would be knitting) to make the fold better before starting the second half of the cuff in 2 by 2 ribbing.
