A good rule of thumb for scarf length is to make it equal to the wearer's "wingspan" (fingertips to fingertips), which is also equal to their height. I've found that this rule always works for me!

Thank you for the note, Leilani. Without a pattern to follow, you'll need to figure out how to keep the decreases even around the hat. I would first start with decreasing the purl stitches between the twists, then decreasing some of the twists (evenly, turning them into plain knit stitches). Doing this gradually will eventually leave you with a few plain knit stitches to fasten off for the top of the hat.
@verypinkknits11 жыл бұрын
I haven't tested this out myself, but it seems to me that you could get a left twist by working an SSK, not removing the "old" stitches from the left needle, then knitting the second stitch on the left needle, then removing the "old" stitches.

Yes, I suppose you can use a cable needle to make a regular cable stitch (not like I demonstrate it here), but that's not how I teach cables. I think it's much easier to use a cable needle - a short, double-pointed needle. The stitch I demonstrate here shows you how to work a little cabled twist without a cable needle.

If I wanted the “cables” to look more separated, could I have four purl rows in between the twists, and then do a knit 4 purl 2 on the wrong side? Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you!

Hi Staci/ Casey (or anyone!!! :D ) I finally completed successfully (after 4 tries) the 2x2 tubular cast on (k2, p2) OMG! thank you for the video! Now I wanted to continue and do this easy cable rib in the round. I want to make a headband. The problem is, when I look at the written instructions of the cable rib in the round it’s a p2, k2. My question is can I do the cable rib in the round as a k2,p2 repeat? I hope its clear…

Can this be done with only one purl between the cables?
@lynnecampbell56086 жыл бұрын
I was really excited to try this but am having a little trouble. It appears that I’m doing what you describe but my “cables” don’t look much like cables... just kind of a raised rope. I mean I like it and would use it but I was hoping for more of a cable. Could it be because I’m using a “craft” yarn? It’s a worsted weight acrylic.
@lynnecampbell56086 жыл бұрын
Never mind. I only followed the video using a 2 row repeat. Didn’t realize it was a 4 row pattern

Can you tell me if you have a video for binding off cabled stitches? I don't mean a cable cast off either. I know there is a picture tutorial out there, but I need a video.
@verypinkknits7 жыл бұрын
Most cable patterns will have you bind off normally, nothing fancy. The only "fancy" thing they might call for is binding off in pattern: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ2xn6CCpcR4i68

Love this. I'm using this to make a bet for a newborn. I wanted to use this stitch on the turn down cuff of the booties but realised that only the rib side would show on the outside of the cuff once it's turned down. If I reverse the rows will it have the reverse effect? TIA - Love the videos and the podcast! I am a better knitter because of you, no doubt! x
@verypinkknits6 жыл бұрын
Jenna - thanks for the note. :) Because of the way this stitch is worked, I don't recommend trying to work it "inside out" with the cable look on the inside of the sock (so the right side shows when the cuff is turned down). Getting it right is a few steps - please visit your local yarn shop for help if you need it. First, turn the bootie inside-out. Work a wrap & turn so you don't leave a hole in the work. Begin the rounds for this stitch, as written, picking up the wrapped stitch when you come to it in the first round. Work the rounds for as long as you want the cuff, BO, turn the bootie right-side out, fold down the cuff, and bob's your uncle.

This is such a wonderful stitch! I would like to use it in socks that I am designing but of course would like to credit you for the idea of how to execute it in this easier manner than what I had previously found! Hi there. I'm making a scarf for my mum with this design. I'm using 12mm needles and mega chunky yarn. How long in inches would you recommend that I make the scarf? I read somewhere that women's scarves should be approximately 54 inches but I've already knitted over 33 inches worth so far and it's looking tiny.

I have 40 stitches I am working for the hat.. need to decrease!
@verypinkknits10 жыл бұрын
Ms Gero - you really need to follow a pattern for that, row-by-row...it is more than I can write out here in the comments. You can experiment with it - gradual decreases to shape the crown, and decreases placed so that you can keep the cable twists as long as possible. Good luck!
@nlboise9 жыл бұрын
I would go for p2tog so that you can keep the cables up to the top while shortening it in the rib space. this might entail spacing out the cables so that they can come together at the top and you can just sinch the live stitches together.
