REALLY NEEDED your tutorials on decreasing and increasing in ribbing!!!!! Big thank you! My granddaughter sent me a photo of an extremely expensive store bought "hand knit" garment that she just KNEW I could whip right up. The timing of these was perfect, you have saved my sanity, I was all swatched out with limited success.

Thank you! This is perfect. I've been stuck on a sweater project for ages trying to figure out how to do the increases while maintaining the K3,P3 ribbing, and now I can finally continue! Thank you so much! You're the best!

Roxanne you are really the best. I'm a beginner; there are many people with great skills, but few who can explain well like you. Such a pity can't learn by you in person. Thank you for your video.

You saved my gloves!!! Their pattern had a thumb gusset that was a garbled mess... but I found your instructions for this increase, and now i have a thumb gusset! Thanks from NZ.

THANK YOU so much I just had a revelation about twisted stiches : always knit them through the left leg !!! This really helped me understand even when I work from the back side of the fabric. I also understood more about left or right leaning yarn over. The cues you are giving are so useful to me, I understand more about what I am doing and why, your tips are very helpful. GRATITUDE !!! I would love to know more about your favourite reference books on Bavarian knitting.

This was so helpful! Love seeing the two different approaches - increasing in the center vs increasing in the sides. Wish I had seen it before attempting to knit 7x2 rib sweater sleeves from the bottom up! My newbie attempt was a complete mess but now I'm willing to try a rib knit sweater again! Thank you!!

This is great! I remember the first time I had to noodle through this on a project and of course I didn’t swatch it. It still gives me a little trauma when I see it in the instructions because I remember struggling with it. So I think I will knit these swatches and keep them for reference. I love all the ways a good strong rib can give design lines to a garment and really enjoy knitting it, too. Thank you!

Fascinating. All those twist stitches blew my mind, but thinking of it as the trailing leg helps.

Hi Rox. I so apppreciate your tutorials - thank you.. At the moment, I am knitting my first 2x2 rib sweater. I got a lot from your tutorial on decreasing. I'm not sure what I've done is quite right, but it's my first. I wonder if you can do a tutorial on decreasing one stitch at each end of sleeve top shaping? I did this, leaving one stitch at the edge (which I always made to be a knit stitch on the right side). I got a bit confused how to get decrease when faced with one st a purl and the other a knit. I can send pics of the finished result. I've now just started the next sleeve. Also - Is there an equally neat way to increase stitches as I know the sleeve upwards from cast-on (wrist)? Carol J

Thank you so much this is truly the most beautiful way to increase 2x2! I was so confused before I watched this video :) I do wish that in the segment where you increase from the center that you showed how to work a yarn over as a knit stitch on WS, you only show purls and jumping back in the video to the first segment Can be confusing.

If you are working in the round, I presume the layout is the same, ie row two is still row two, etc. , but you work the yarn overs from the front each time putting in and twisting for the correct direction ?

Roxanne, how do you increase stitches in last row of ribbing? I have a sweater pattern and the sleeves are done in 1x1 rib. From 38 stitches worked for 3" in 1x1 rib I need to inrease 20 stitches on last row. In the past I've increased the stitches on thefirst row of stockinette on the knit row. But I can't do that for this pattern because the first row is worked in a pattern. Help!

Thank you for the video which is most helpful. I'm also needing some advice on the following:- I'm trying to knit a cape/poncho (from the top down, not circular) it's a 2 x 2 rib on 70 sts, knit 15 rows then inc 48 sts in and across the next row maintaining the pattern. Would it be easier to inc on the purl stitch or on the plain stitch?

Does this technique at the 4 min mark work in the round? Also your video shows increases every row. What do you do if it is every 6th row?

I’ve not heard of using the yarn over increase like this, but I like it. I’ve only seen the y . o. as decorative. If I used this in place of make 1 or lifted increase, would I do the y. o. on the same row as I would have done the other type of increase, or in the previous row?
@RoxanneRichardson
@RoxanneRichardson 5 жыл бұрын
In many cases, it won't matter. As long as you are consistent about how you do it, either way will work in most cases. It's the same issue as working a m1 increase where you lift the running thread vs doing a backwards loop. If you're unsure, then swatching can clear it up. When working flat, it's going to be easier to remember to do them and to see where to do them on a RS row.

I can see the big, locking stitch markers getting in the way, but have you ever tried the plastic bone rings, or the super thin, rubber rings, both available at Joann? The rubber rings in particular really get out of the way for me.
@RoxanneRichardson
@RoxanneRichardson 5 жыл бұрын
Sure, I've tried all manner of things. Every knitter is different, and I just don't like anything on my needles, other than the stitches. If I do use a marker on the needle, I typically want to add it to the needle right before I start working the row, which means a locking stitch marker is most useful. Once I get to that point in the course of working the row, I remove the marker, and typically won't need it again, because I just read my knitting in future rows. If I do need it, I would much rather have it in the fabric.
