Never heard of Maverick City so I went into research mode. They sound great but I am wholeheartedly with Angel on this. I would definitely put them in the Christian/Worship genre. I can certainly hear the difference. I hear the praise but not the soul.

They most definately are closer to TRBL or Elevation in terms of sound that a soulful Ricky Dillard or Jekalyn Carr, but I never saw Christian Contemporary as seperate from Gospel. Just another sub-genre. I always looked at Gospel as a genre with subgenres (Gospel Rap, Contemporary Gospel, Choir etc) like Rock (Atlernative, Heavy Metal, Grundge etc). This whole is it gospel thing is just interesting to me. We all talking about God anyway.

I personally think Beenie Man vs. Bounty Killer took Verzuz to the next level re: performance. They were the first to battle in the same room with their own DJ’s. Verzuz didn’t go back to separate spaces format after that. Also, I think ppl are trying to recreate the competitive atmosphere that Lox vs. Dipset had, but that was a once in a lifetime moment that cannot be done again.

Just FYI.... Meg Thee Stallion is between 5'10 and 6'0 and between 185-200lbs. She got the "Stallion" nickname because she is TALL & THICK! Stallion is a nickname for a tall, shapely horse. Her boyfriend, Pardi (Pardison Fontaine) is 6'5" and a former college basketball player. When they are standing together, you can see how tall she is because Pardi is so tall! Black people sing gospel (soulful sound) and mixed or very diverse groups sing contemporary christian music. There is a clear distinction in the sound. The radio stations were probably the ones that created the separation.

If we’re being honest, artists such as Tye Tribbett, Mali Music, and Deitrick Haddon are the bridge between CCM and Gospel. I do think there is a spectrum when it comes to this music that is you shouldn’t equate/compare the two ends of the spectrum

Agreed! I've also come to learn that Gospel is amazing but not all of it is considered worship music. I was raised on Gospel music and eventually lived in an environment where Gospel music was not as accessible on the radio stations. I recall asking my friend on the worship team why they didn't do certain songs at church, and she pointed out that a lot of those songs that I referenced focused on us and not Jesus. Since then, it's really given me more perspective on what type of songs I sing and what I am really aiming for: jams or worship.

Maverick City isn’t gospel!! Gospel music is classified by the style of the chord changes, singing over the passing chords, call and response, etc. Gospel music is a fusion of jazz and blues. Maverick City uses none of that in their music. They use simple four chord structured songs. Great music but it is definitely CCM. No difference between them, and the styles of Bethel and Elevation Worship.

Watching the replay and I'm not sure but it would've been cool if yall did an entire episode on the Verzus and the aftermath. Honestly I was Omarion fan in the b2k days because everyone I knew was drooling over Fizz. I even liked Raz-B. Went to every tour and concert that came to DC. I'm with Angel, Maverick City, sounds like CCM to me too. I kept trying to figure out why I was hearing them on Kirk Franklin XM radio all the time. I was very very confused. Mav is closer to CCM than gospel. And I listen to my fair share of all kinds of Christian music.
