I was very curious about this topic, I use pump siphon to fill mine. Much cleaner than the gas station, the pumps at the station are two fast and it makes it hard to fill a "full" tank. My two knits about my Liberty, small fuel tank and no self canceling turn signals. Other than that, I love my scoot!!!! It's a blast to ride!!

This video does give a good estimate of usable capacity, but the claimed mpg is I believe very optimistic. I'm 77 and i ride a lot of 20-25 mile " get out of the house" runs, a few 40-60 mile runs, and in good weather some weekend 100 milers.( those are all round trip distances). I'm getting more like 60 mpg and 100 per tank. Definitely not a touring bike...lol.....but a nice comfortable machine for the way I use it. Had a 2014 Fly 150 before. Very similar, but the Liberty does handle rough pavement a bit better, and has a bit more confident feel at 50+ mph. My comments on this machine : I live in the near suburbs of Chicago, but I came from East Tennessee hilly terrain. I miss the scenery of my rides, but in the hills the 150cc might struggle quite a bit. I had a minimum of 250cc when I lived there. But, for joy rides like I do now, the Liberty 150 S is very nice. I only wish there were not 40 dozen fasteners to remove when taking off all body panels for a good cleaning or for more involved maintenance. I would take this scooter over Honda PCX for dollar value first purchase, and over Yamaha SMax 155 for value and for comfort, although the Yamaha does handle around town a bit quicker.

thanks for the video! Yes, you were pretty much solely responsible for my decision to buy a Liberty last year after watching your reviews! LOL. I am mostly happy with it. I would say the trouble with filling it is one of the biggest negatives with the scooter, since it's something that I do quite often. Also, the need for premium fuel is a bummer. Keep up the great work, and thanks again!

Pop out the little green thing in the gas filler, and when the pump first stops, pull out the gas hose, and hold back the big plastic piece, and keep adding gas a click or two at a time, and you get a whole lot more. Been doing it for a while.

Many thanks for this video Robot ! (and all the other ones, it's always interesting). As an owner of a Liberty 125, the fuel tank capacity has been quite a mystery to me ! I had no idea it was shaped like this. The maximum amount of gas I had to pour in was 4,54L. I usually do it when it hits the reserve.

Hi there. So you have 6 liters in total. Robot was right. It's a good habit to refill when the light comes on in order to protect the fuel pump 👍

Yes indeed ! As long as I'm in the city or nearby it's not a problem, but if I ever go further I may not be able to refill when the light is on. With 4,5 L I usually do between 180 km (in winter) and 220 km (in summer), around 200 km most of the time.

I've had my 2018 Liberty150i since summer of 2017 and never had a problem getting the last bar lit when fueling. Use flashlight to check the level down the neck - use Vespa trick of aligning pump handle N & South with the wheelbase. Love this scooter and its new Angels! Or fuel it up at home from your can of SHELL! I do. Thanks Robot - good to know it holds 6-Lt.

One more thing ill say is that the scooter being on the center stand and unloaded will affect the usable capacity as the angle of fuel/fuel pump is changed. Ive noticed propping up the scooter on the center stand often gets the fuel gauge up one bar vs sitting on the bike. I weigh 210 pounds. Lets say 220 with gear.

I got 1.6 gallons once when I was dead empty. Thought I was gonna run out in Descanso. And the gas tank does suck, but the Liberty 150 is a fantastic bike! So it’s not even an inconvenience once you overflow the gas a couple times.

It surprised me it holds what the manual says. I think the way you did this tells you the usable fuel, which is more important than just knowing how much fuel you can put in to the tank. My SH125i says it holds 7 litres, but I often put in 7.75 litres. Most milage I've had is dead on 200 miles. My Primavera from full to empty did 206 miles before it stopped. I had a tin with half a litre under the seat.

Good information about the layout of the tank, I did not know this. Last filling I went 30 km city driving after the light came on, I filled 5,6 liters. Mine is 2020 Euro 4, the new Euro 5 I think has an evap canister, so you have to be more careful not to overfill. What happens if you drive it empty, just refill and cycle the ignition a few times or will it need a workshop visit?

Before fuel injection and fuel cooled and lubricated pumps, I would fill the gas tank and a can of gas strap it on the back and ride the bike till the engine quit dump in can of fuel go to a fuel station fill it up . By doing that I get all the information from the beginning so I know exactly how far I can go and how big the reserve is . I think the low fuel light is more to protect those fuel pumps than it is to tell you how much range you have remaining .
@EnergyEruption
@EnergyEruption 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. A Piaggio mechanic here in Greece just told me that I should always have at least 2 'lines' of gas in the tank to protect the fuel pump, especially in the summer. I have the Liberty 150 Euro 5 and the summers here are quite brutal so it makes sense.

Hi Robot, I have a pretty weird situation, my Liberty 50cc has just 100 miles and I'm on my second fill up. When I leave in morning, all the bars are full, after about 7h under the sun the gauge shows me an error, the smallest bare and the biggest bar flashes with the fuel symbol. Is it the heat that causes trouble? The next morning everything is correct, and the cycle begins again

My 2021 Liberty 150’s fuel light stays on after only 90 miles. The bike has only 400 miles on it. I assume this means the fuel level indicator jumped the gun. Should my MPG improve after I put more miles on the bike?

The only way to have full confidence of maximum distance is to carry a small container of petrol and run normal driving speeds till the engine starts to quit. Then put in the petrol and drive to a station for fill up.

I’m concerned about the hassle of pumping, but also getting the correct octane, as the Liberty needs premium fuel, has a small tank, and the Costco long fuel lines hold a lot of gas. I might pump quite a bit of 87 before the 93 starts. My solution: when the scooter is getting low on fuel, I fill my MINI Countryman with 93 octane first, then pump exactly 1 gallon in a can for the Liberty. I fill the Liberty 50 at home from that can, which is all 93 octane, right when the light comes on. My experience is that at light on and no bars, 1.0 gallon gives me a full tank. If I go a few more miles, I do 1.1 gallons. Seems to work.

@@bruceketcheson4877 Yeah, I'm odd that way. I also factor in how far I've driven and the tires have warmed up when I inflate them to spec. Change out the summer washer fluid in my cars for winter before the temps drop in late fall. Rotate my car's tires religiously at 6,500 miles, and measure the tread depth to see if an alignment or inflation level needs adjusting. Change the oil and filter on my cars before the maintenance spec, particularly on the turbo engines. Ignore the factory's "lifetime" assertion on my Jeep's coolant and tranny/diff fluids. Guess I'm just a nut.

That was my chief compliant with the liberty 150. The gas gauge. My racing 60s 150 doesn’t suffer from the the same. Personally, the liberty 150 is the better scooter between the two. The cost is almost unbeatable. I love the style of the Vespa. The bigger wheels and utility of the liberty is better imo.

@paulc2953
@paulc2953 2 жыл бұрын
Steve, my Liberty 50 gets about 80 miles (based on the bike’s odometer, which I think means probably more like 75 actual miles) before the light comes on. I think you are doing well to get 89 with the 150cc engine.

Mileage will improve with age a bit, but 100 for fairly normal traffic is not bad. As Robot shows, that is 1.6 gals used, and about 60 mpg. The fuel pump tube will not pick up the last bit of gas in the Liberty tank and will start to sputter out.

You can buy a cheap $5 one from AliExpress and install it without taking too much apart if your fingers are not too big. Just drill a hole through the top of the glove box, and fish the wire out through the small opening removing the Piaggio emblem on the front. Red wire to one of the fuses, black wire on the nut towards the bottom of the opening. You can see in the manual which fuses are always on and which are switched, or use a multimeter.
