Roughly two years ago Vespa released the 43mph version of their all electric scooter. We just got around to doing a video about it. This is fine scooter if used in the right situations. Enjoy the Portland footage.

Love Vespa but can't help but feel like this was begrudgingly released without any thought to competing with companies like NIU. In Canada, the Vespa Electrica sells for 10 grand before tax and dealership fees. 😬 Thanks for a great review.

In the U.K. and lots of European countries, these vehicles are heavily subsidised by the government, and so that’s what has allowed them to release them at a premium price point. When buying new, the government picks up 20% of the list cost. Over time, the tech will become cheaper. They’ve just released the Piaggio One at a much lower price point (to complete with the NIU), but likely using a lot of the same tech. The different between riding a NIU and the Vespa Elettrica is a massive jump in terms of build quality. For me, I had the option of a used Vespa Elettrica or a brand new NIU at the same price point and am glad I went for the secondhand Elettrica.

Vespa have high quality frame/Chassis. But I think it over priced. In Canada a 50cc Yamaha is half the price. 100 miles per gallon.

portland is an great place for a ride with a vespa. when I decided between the piaggio liberty and the elettrica, the elettrica only had a max speed of a bit over 25 mph. maybe it was the first version that time. Now, I ride with my liberty 125. Clearly, electric is the future that has begun and finally leaves more and more the explorative stadium.

Brilliant but seriously expensive bike make. £6,000 in my country whereas I can buy the NIU GTS Pro - 45mph- for just £3,111 is the battery removable in the Vespa?
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 3 жыл бұрын
Not removable in the Vespa. Piaggio will be releasing a scooter later this year with a removable battery to compete with the NIU.
@JakeM218
@JakeM218 3 жыл бұрын
Should be around £5000 after the government grant in the U.K. I took my CBT on the NIU GTS Pro and ended up buying the Vespa. The Vespa feels incredibly solid (being a full metal chassis), and everything about it screams quality. It includes a free app that tracks all your rides and I can view every little detail on the map afterwards - speed, energy usage etc. NIU do have an app, but charge monthly or yearly for it. Vespa battery isn’t removable but Type 2 adaptors (to use regular charging points) are available.
@stumpusMaximus
@stumpusMaximus 3 жыл бұрын
@@JakeM218 erm I bought the the NIU and the app is free for 3 years? Where you get the monthly/yearly thing from I don’t know if you tested the NIU you would know that- ask questions with the dealership?? It tracks rides,GPS position -stolen bike- sms, alarm movements, battery temp,charge,range cycles, 200 point system check and a lot more. I couldn’t afford the Vespa and the NIU came with 3 year battery and 2 year bike plus I like the security features - alarm/immobiliser. The regen braking and CBS braking, cruise control was a sweet deal. If the Vespa had of been cheaper and battery removable- over half the population of my city live in flats,tenements, bedsits etc and charging anything EV is impossible. Even if you won the lottery - like London, you’ll buy a penthouse. Battery removal was the killer decision, sadly. Of course it can be charged in situ, but I needed that option. At least other manufacturers are giving punters a choice with removable batteries. Choice is good. Cheers

On the Tesla 1k range comment. I can bet you that they won't have that as an option (for any reasonable sum), what would be better is to get the range to 400 miles and use smaller batteries. I don't think people need to be sitting for that length of time. Shorten up the charging time, reduce weight... win win. I have an older electric Kia and I love it. I only get 80 miles on it but I use it for work and around town... charge it maybe once a week (sometimes every week and a half... of course sometimes if I'm doing a lot more than once a week). Just tossing that two cents in there. And to wait for the 'pinnacle' ... you'll keep waiting as there might be something a lot better. Its like holding onto your horse because maybe fuel injection will come around... it did, but it took a while. For the Vespa.. I think it looks great.. but I would like to see a removable battery so you can easily swap it out.. with how long all the rests lasts... they could just last forever. I will wait for the next version on this... and hope it has that feature.

43mph version has combined brakes, whereas the 30mph versions are completely separate. Also slightly higher continuous power of 3.6kw instead of 3.5kw (but as they both max out at 4kw for 30 seconds at a time - I doubt the 0.1kw difference in continuous rating makes any difference!

Always great reviews honestly, Vespa dropped the ball by not simply taking the millions of Real Vespas worldwide and simply making better motors updated for them and instead making these very poorly designed and made Chinese scooters. And this Electric is way over priced for the extremely low speed and quality build. I converted all of my extensive collection of real Vespas and Real Lambrettas to electric and they are far faster, more reliable, way better build, much higher top speed, actually useful, and way less the price and way more power. My 64 GT200 has a 72v system in it, using a 10kw in hub motor wheel, 0-100 kph in 1.2 seconds, 520 nm's of torque, top speed of 175 kph, range with my 80 ah Lifepo4 battery is well over 450 km per charge way outperforming these Chinese Vespas. And total cost to convert real vespa and Lambretta scooters is 4200 Can dollars these 10,000 dollars kids toys are not worth buying sadly. Keep up the great vids sorry to bash the so called Vespa Elettrica

I wish people kept the million times told clichés out of review videos. You know the things like "your scooter needs to go 200mph to get out of situations" or "it needs to have a range long enough that I can charge once a year". I didn't care about those the first time I heard them. I don't care about them now. BUT I am less likely to watch your videos if you keep saying shit like this.

what an incredible missed opprtunity by Vespa .This thing is TWICE as expensive as comparable other electric scooters and does NOT have removable battery .They could have blasted away competition in one go by making it as expensive as a normal Primavera and have removable battery .what a waste ( and I'm a Vespa fan )
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 2 жыл бұрын
We’re not yet to the point where electric technology is as cheap to slam into a vehicle as a combustion engine. In a few years this scooter will likely be similarly priced to the Primavera but don’t hold your breath. Not having a removable battery is a downside for many but most people we’ve sold these two have garages with power outlets. Folks wanting Piaggio quality and a removable battery will be better off with the Piaggio One Active which is a great scooter that we’ll do a video for someday.

@@VespaPortland I'm not suggesting the scooter could be as cheap as a B brand ICE scooter but to sell this at twice the price NIU sells their topmodel is a bit of an overreach by Vespa .I'm suspecting they're not selling a lot of them .Mind you : all european and American brands dropped the ball on electric scooters .East Asia is waay ahead ( but only when it comes to electric ) .Look at stuff like the Gogoro project in East Asia .It's very exciting to see stuff like that and I'm not so sure USA and Europe will manage to get up to speed - pun intended - with their Asian counterparts in foreseeable future
