@RiderGuide8 ай бұрын
I'd love to get some hard numbers on both of them. I put up some graphs later in the video that compare their spec sheets, but it's just not the same as tested numbers. I had a chance to ride the Anthem and the Land back to back at Micromobility in the Bay area. The Anthem feels bigger and heavier and more like a conventional motorcycle. The motorized seat is an interesting feature for the Anthem, but unless you have two riders for the same bike a seat that could be bolted on in two positions would accomplish the same thing and be lighter. Here's a short of me riding the Anthem. kzbin.infoPEN78H-WTjU?si=8bM3JZ6JPBSLtXQU I tried to make a short about the Land, but the wind absolutely ruined the audio so we never published it. Fingers crossed we get enough interest in these to do some full reviews! -Paul

Great review! Definitely thinking about going this route. Still not quite the range I could get on my motorcycle, but sounds like the power will be fairly similar to my Royal Enfield Himalayan, probably even more torque on mode 4. Currently have both an ebike and the motorcycle and I think this might be a good in between gray area that might just be able to fill both gaps. Like I said though, biggest concern is range, but they have to be looking into solid state batteries within the next 5 or so years anyways. So that will be a game changer on all these battery powered bikes. Thanks again for the review! - Shane

Hey there Paul great job is always with your highly detailed review and great questions you ask. I have a question for you, my friend. I really have been thinking about getting this, but I am more of a cruiser, motorcycle driver and do not like the sports stance. But This looks a little bit more upright and Cafe cruiser style in my opinion. So that and only 70MPH had me concerned leaves me on the fence. I am 6ft 1in tall, 34 inch inseam 180pounds I would to know if you had any other recommendations of any other cruiser style electric bikes ( non sport bike) that are able to be registered and insured for streetable and for highways, I would hope for at least around 80 MPH ( I won’t complain if it is faster 😂) speed and at least 100 Miles to distance. Looking for a semi daily driver.
@RiderGuide8 ай бұрын
Great questions. Yes, I like the standard seating position myself, and this is definitely upright enough for me. We don't know the top speed for sure yet, since I didn't get a chance to measure it, but I'm taking their word for it that it will do 72mph until we get data. The only other one that comes to mind that's close is the Ryvid Anthem, and the NIU RQi. I've ridden the Anthem, briefly, but not the RQi yet (our buddy John did a first impressions video on this channel about the offroad XQi though). Claimed range on the Anthem is much lower, but we also haven't range tested either of them yet. We have an amazing database of kick-scooter data, but our e-moto database is just getting going. I really enjoyed riding the Solar E-Clipse as well and we have tested range and top speed for that one, but both of those numbers are lower for the E-Clipse (as is the price). -Paul

for $9k, wouldn't it be reasonable to expect both a small (11-15) front chainring as well as the standard (19) front chainring with the ability to shift between them (simplified transmission) so we can get good low end torque as well as freeway-capable top end speed? at these prices, having to live with a fixed gear set up seems to fall short of the value proposition considering $4k motorcycles come with multigear transmissions.
@EVMoneyLive8 ай бұрын
Why do you think you need that? Have you ridden one?
@kbstuff198 ай бұрын
@@EVMoneyLive nope, just based on what the vp of sales said regarding the gearing options (15 OR 19 front chainring). I do have both electric and gas powered bikes, however. The best part about electric is the readily available and simple torque off the line. the limitation I've experienced is to get that torque, the front chainring is geared such that the RPM limit of the motor is reached at a relatively low top speed (50 mph). Being able to get up to 75-80 mph would make the bike a viable commuter... actually it would make it a better commuter than an ICE bike (lighter, better off the line, removable battery to charge inside at work if necessary). I wouldn't cross shop it if I was in the market for a sport bike, but with dual gearing as described, I would certainly spend $9k on it over a 600 cc ICE motorcycle for commuting.
@EVMoneyLive8 ай бұрын
@@kbstuff19 I'm just confused because you said "chainring," which US motorcyclists don't say. It made me think you wanted them to engineer some kind of derailleur? I don't think it's possible with a heavy motorcycle chain; instead, it would require a gearbox and a total re-engineering of the motor/drive unit, if not the frame and swingarm as well. Watching the video, I don't think Paul is riding the 19-tooth sprocket option, and he doesn't seem to have any trouble getting to very high speeds. So I don't think this is the problem that you point out. It's a solution with no problem, if you ask me. If you've indeed been following electric motorcycles, you'd remember the Brammo Empulse, which had a gearbox and clutch...which added weight, expense and complexity that really didn't benefit the rider much. I doubt the 0-50 time is that different between the two gearings, at least not enough to justify a gearbox.

Thanks for the feedback and stopping by!
@kbstuff198 ай бұрын
@@EVMoneyLive I guess what I'm looking for is a lower powered and less-complex version of a livewire or zero for commuting. I don't need 100+ mph top speed, 0-60 in under 3 seconds, ABS/electric nannies, or sport bike suspension. Would happily trade those for lighter weight, removable battery, and lower price.

Good bike, but these companies need to stop making these Hybrid E-bikes/Motor-bike type of bikes. It just an excuse for people to get these things and go 50 mph on Bike trails and then claim it's a e-bike. I see all the time on bike trails in California. People ride fast as if they on the highway doing highway speeds. Several states have already made e-Bike laws/regulations because of the foolishness mention above. Some regulations are dumb. My personal opinion, If the bike goes over 40 mph it need to classified as a Moped and anything over 50 MPH need to be classified as motorcycle. And stop classifying these e-bikes as Bicycles if they have no pedals. Bike with all throttle should be Mopeds
@RiderGuide8 ай бұрын
Someone else asked in the comments, so I dug a little deeper. In California and 37 other states, you're right, it's pretty much just a moped or motorcycle, though many people tend to ride Surrons and smaller e-motos as if they were e-bikes. I'll be curious how it all shakes out in the other 13 states. I'm also curious if we'll ever get a crackdown on the 72 mph stand up scooters, since technically we can only ride them 15mph here in CA. -Paul

The flip side to the Jekyll and Hyde of this bike is that you can't spec it slow and hand this to a young person and pretend it's a fast e-bike, and they'll ride it safely. Anyone riding this should be presumed to be riding a 72 mph motorcycle, so stay out of the bike lanes, stay off of the Multiuse paths, and DON'T ruin e-bike access to all the way the Surron has been starting to do. As Ramier showed, it is impossible to avoid the temptation of using the thing as a motorcycle, even though he doesn't have a motorcycle license. No Bueno. Motorcycle riders should undergo training, as should all motor vehicle operators. Take the MSF, and take the motorcycle seriously.

No one who understands bike laws in this country would say that. 28 mph is the limit for Class 3 e-bikes but they have to have no throttle and must have pedals. Here is Juiced useful summation of state-by-state Class 3 laws, because they sell them and pay attention. I don't have impulse controls. I do understand when a reviewer or worse a manufacturer is explaining false information about how a product can be ridden in the USA. I ride motorcycles. My last one was a Triumph 675 Daytona. But the e-bike rules do not allow for this to be treated as an e-bike.

Also exactly where is 25mph on motor assist alone is considered street legal for an ebike? I'm curious because it seems to me most of north america is aligned on 20mph/32kph max speed for ebike motor assist (throttle) only mode, and in requirement of working pedals to propel the bicycle.

the chain doesnt make sense for an e-bike.
@shastamite27 ай бұрын
Most ebikes have chains over belts due to the possiblity of snapping a belt from dropping off of curbs and such.
@RiderGuide7 ай бұрын
Why wouldn’t a chain make sense here? The power level? It actually has both because there is a belt drive between the motor and chain drive. -Paul

@@RiderGuide motor connected directly to the wheel - remove the needs for such chains / belts.

Lets be honest, there is nothing that translate from this expensive toy to a real motorcycle. Saying that this eliminates the need for a 250 - 400cc entry bike sounds like a paid for response and coming from Paul is highly disappointing given his riding background. Imagine thinking you can hop on a 600-1000cc liter bike after riding this glorified ebike for a year. My issue is that no one is going to restrict the thing and will immediately start riding dirty. The PEV space is gravitating to more speed more power more acceleration with no long term quality control or safety standards. You will see people on these damn things with a bike helmet or somethings that not rated for a 70 mph crash on the freeway....

Thanks for your feedback. Did you watch the entire video. I'm curious how does this wouldn't replace 250 - 400cc motorcycles, especially for city use? My first bike was a 400cc Honda CB-1 and my race bike for 5.5 seasons was a Ninja 250. I'm a huge fan of smaller gas-powered bikes, but I'd honestly rather ride this. Stop-sign-to-stop-sign, e-motos are amazing because you're not spending half a block waiting for the power to come on. It's just on immediately. Plus there's not having to pull the clutch at stop lights, silent-hooning, charging at home and never having to go to the gas station. My love of this bike is real. You can hear it in my laughter when I'm riding. -Paul

lol rode out to do a review for them to help their sale and they are soo hurt they can’t even give u the bike for exposure 😂😂😂😂😂 even if 2 ppl buy it from this review it’s worth of a free bike 😂😂

I don’t know of any emoto company that’s handing out emotos to reviewers yet for keeps. They’re expensive to build. -Paul

Do people need a driver's license to drive this?
@RiderGuide6 ай бұрын
Depends on your locality!

You need a motorcycle license to ride it on the road, so your title is kind of misleading.
@RiderGuide8 ай бұрын
The title is intended to mean I could put anyone able bodied on it and they’d feel comfortable riding it. On the other hand, not anyone can just jump on my Triumph Street Triple and ride it. -Paul

I dont buy this "ebikes/motorbikes" are safter than convention motorbike, its being hit by car trucks that's the danger and it being electric does not change that. I don't subscribe to it, but the loud pipes save lives guys aren't gonna feel safer.
@RiderGuide2 ай бұрын
I don't think it's safer, but definitely easier to ride. I think fewer people will be afraid of ebikes and emotos the way people are afraid of motorcycles. Hmmmm... the loud pipes save lives guys... in 30 years of motorcycle commuting I've never felt the need to be heard. -Paul

U can buy a used sf first the cost of this bike new .. there’s really no market for this bike , it’s just a niche within a niche toy it’s not a valuable affordable commute and that’s the primary role of it and it can’t even do that. But all these e moots are just toys for fun those who can afford them . They are not reliable vehicles. And this bike will be obsolete in 5 years like the rest with very very poor resale value and poor part replacement.. your bike life will depend on this company’s ability to not go bankrupt 😂😂😂 so it’s just a for now toy and an unforgiving economy 😂😂😂😂 👍🏾

@@RiderGuide I sense you've dismissed this feedback, and I understand we all may have different priorities, but he's probably right. Not sure who decided these bikes should all look like uncomfortable, botched café racers or rocket ships, but someone is eventually going to stumble on the right moment to design and build an ebike which looks more like a mainstream motorcycle, with a convincing range and a price which doesn't immediately make your eyes water, and thanks to masss market dynamics, they'll have it cornered in no time and leave everyone else scrambling to catch up...Tesla-like. PS:I doubt this bike will be the one to do it.

Another toy for the rich. Again, would rather just get a car or real bike for what you pay here.. let’s get back to scoots and the like.

I would rather get his over a car or a "Real" bike like you say. This is a real bike, whether you liek it or not. It is a motorcycle. Worth every cent to me and lots of other people.
