Dear Friends, I'm 27, an orthodox acolyte, and I would like to know if there is any way to contribute with Portuguese subtitles for this and another videos. I'm translating some educational videos about orthodoxy and I would like so much to make subtitles for this video. We have a huge lack of didactic materials in our language here in Brazil . Thank you and God be with you all. Christos Anesti!

Very nice vid. I immediately sent thi to one of my protestant freinds who seemed to think that vestments were merely decorative and to make the priest look important, lol.

Not all Protestants shun vestments. I am an associate pastor at an independent orthodox Confessional Lutheran congregation in suburban Philadelphia, PA, and I wear all of the vestments associated with the Western Rite (except the maniple). There are also Evangelical-Lutheran pastors in the Ukraine that wear the Byzantine Rite vestments, for their church broke from the Papist-controlled "Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church" in the 1930's; all due to the imposition of Latin Rite rules (Latin for Divine Liturgy instead of Greek, Church Slavonic, or the vernacular; mandatory clerical celibacy; statues instead of icons, etc.) by the Polish Latin bishops placed in charge of the Byzantine Rite parishes.

Lol classic. Protestants don't understand something, therefore it must immediately be decorative pomp to entrench clericalism.

Is an un shaven beard mandatory for an orthodox priest? Modern priests playing with beard cutting shaving like a clown in America?

Are these vestments the same for the Russian Orthodox Church as well?

Russian vestments are basically the same with some aesthetic differences. As far as I know our vestments are the same.

I heard a fundamental Baptist say that vestments originate from Baal worship quoting 2 Kings 10:22 “and he said to one of them in charge of the wardrobe, bring out vestments for all the worshippers of Baal” So he brought out vestments for them.”

Wonderful and informative vid. Sadly, my protestant friends are quick to cite Luke 20:46.
@betobot27 жыл бұрын
As a former protestant, most things Orthodox to me are little sermons. Sometimes you tell them to yourself in an old prayer, sometimes it is an extension of the gospel. Each vestment, if properly considered, brings the priest into the right mindset to lead the congregation into heaven.

They don't know anything. Ultimately if they think that all robes are to be damned, I guess the robes and attire of the Old testament priests are to be cursed and the robes that paul lost when he asked Timothy to retrieve them.

Are these vestments based in any way on the clothing worn by Jesus Christ, his disciples, apostles and followers? They look extremely elaborate and expensive.
@Trisagionfilms6 жыл бұрын
They seem very expensive but they are not. In fact the ones that look shiny and sparkly are actually cheaper than the ones that are not. and to answer your first question... no they are not based on what Christ wore... Christ did not dress like a priest of any sort.. he dressed as an average person of his time and place. Orthodox vestments can trace their way back to the ancient jewish priests of the temple. but also have influences from the Roman Christian period(Byzantine empire).
@stvhb15096 жыл бұрын
No, Jesus wasn't a priest, therefore he couldn't wear priestly vestments. Today's priest vestiment are related to those worn by the priesthood line of Aaron. Ancient Hebrew in the time of Moses.
@TheCopticParabolanos5 жыл бұрын
stvh B I wouldn’t go that far. True, our Lord never wore vestments during His earthly ministry, nor was He a priest in the ancient Judaic/Levitical sense of the word. However, He is the Great high priest after the order of Melchizedek and Orthodox Priests derive their authority from this priesthood which He instituted (Cf. The Epistle to the Hebrews)
@Richie_roo2 жыл бұрын
@@TheCopticParabolanos what about when Jesus wore the priestly vestments in John the apostles vision? Just wondering
@TheCopticParabolanos2 жыл бұрын
@@Richie_roo good point. Though strictly speaking, that wasn’t during His “earthly ministry” which is what I was referring to in my previous message

Dato che i video sono visti da ortodossi e Cattolici, forse era opportuno scegliere un prete sposato. Giusto per ricordare una delle differenze con il cattolicesimo.
