I love watching Vet Ranch and was afraid you were going to bash them. Thank you for going more in depth of Bonnie's issues, and agreeing with the diagnosis and treatment. As with most professions, Vet Ranch does great with middle of the road conditions. Hats off to Dr. Dave for diagnosing and treating this once in a career condition. So often when someone posts a react video they are picking it apart instead of explaining it. You pointed out some things you might do different, but I got the impression that how Bonnie was being treated was exactly how a general vet should treat a case like this when there isn't money for surgery.

I agree with the comment below. I hope that you reached out to Dr. Dave at Hondo Vet Clinic. If you are unaware, Hondo is a ranching town west of San Antonio,TX. Ii am sure that Dr. Dave, Dr. Karrie and Dr. Judd would be grateful for your expertise. Dr. Matt Carriker from Boerne, TX started Vet Ranch with his dad, Dr. Lee, and turned the channel over to his friends from Texas A&M Vet School. Gig 'em Aggies!👍 Thank you for acknowledging this great channel.

I have not, but I'm also unsure how to reach him? Not sure I want to bother the clinic phone number lol.
@maryellencook95282 жыл бұрын
@@DVMCellini check the contact info at the end of the Vet Ranch Roundup or Vet Ranch videos. I would think that Dr. Dave in Hondo wouldn't mind a direct call to his clinic, especially if you have access to a better collar for Bonnie. Matt Carriker bought the Boerne practice from his father, and now his sister and sister-in-law run it. Matt is an entrepenuer and has his irons in many fires, but all of the Carrikers, Dr. Dave, and Drs. Karrie and Judd have the animals' best interest at heart. Any help that you can offer will be deeply appreciated, I am sure.

We learned about this in 1st year neuro but it was only like one slide, so it's interesting to see a whole case example and learn more about it. I didn't know about the neck brace solution, and I also didn't realize scar tissue formed in areas of luxation in general (so far we've only talked about fibrosis as a repair process to replace damaged tissue and whatnot)

Very educational. I always enjoy and learn from your videos. In this condition is the brace a life long solution? Like surgery would not fix the problem? It was amazing to see the difference in the dog after brace was put on. Cute little dog. Thank u for the education!
@DVMCellini2 жыл бұрын
The brace usually stays on for a couple months, until the body creates enough scar tissue to stabilize the joint. After that the brace usually comes off but if they have a lot of relapses and surgery isn't an option, it may need to be a lifelong thing.

BAR... standard vet abbreviation unofficially official? When I was doing anesthesia clerkship for my BS-LVT program I had to do intubation/extubation a couple times on a chihuahua puppy that had some neuro deficits and was getting radiographs done. The radiologist didn't want the ET tube in the way. Turned out this puppy had same thing, AA sublux. I was monitoring it while still under and the anesthesiologist came running in asking me if the tube was in.. was it in right/etc? It was, puppy was doing fine. This poor little guy had a pretty bad sublux.

It kind of sounds like Spina Bifida in the neck. (For anyone reading this who don't know what that is, it's a neural tube birth defect where at some point in the womb a section of spine doesn't form and the nerves are damaged, in my case it was in the lower part around L3/L4 or L4/L5.)
